To ask is going to be next Tory leader?

Surely we are not going to end up with Boris - apparently the bookies’ favourite Shock.

And if we do end up with Boris or someone as awful, what do you think that will then lead to? A no deal Brexit? A General Election?

I think the forthcoming political crisis might be worse than what we have yet seen. And I am not looking forward to the gruesome sight of the Tory leadership contest.

Arrogant and entitled.

I'm not sure Gove will even stand....he's against a no deal and has seen Theresa not be able to get any kind of compromise deal through. I think he'll sit this one and out and wait for next time.

Amber Rudd has already said she's not running as the party plainly want someone 'more enthusiastic about Brexit than me'.

Chesntoots · 25/05/2019 12:43

I think Rory Stewart too, but unfortunately he seems a decent chap so doesn't stand a chance. He obviously has a backbone but also a sense of humour (see previously mentioned hedgehog speech!)

VladmirsPoutine · 25/05/2019 12:46

Didn't Raab find out much to his surprise that Dover & Calais were indeed very geographically close and crucial to trade Hmm

longwayoff · 25/05/2019 12:54

Ethelfleda, I think you're right, God help us. I need to excuse Rory Stewart from my list of no good hopefuls. He sounds like a reasonable person and probably doesnt stand a chance.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/05/2019 12:56

It will be Boris

Tory party members know he will trash Corbyn in an election

TheRLodger · 25/05/2019 12:57

I want Rory Stewart to get the job. He seems to talk the most sense and seems to be fairly level headed.

Desolate1 · 25/05/2019 13:13

Will he though?

I would vote Lib Dem generally, but Labour to get someone like Boris out (except that it’s pointless in my constituency which votes Labour anyway) and I should imagine there will be others like me.

I don’t like Corbyn, but Boris is an amoral creature from the swamp, in bed with the worst people, an entitled, arrogant, narcissistic, lazy, lying, good for nothing waste of space, and could be the stepping stone to something much worse for us.

IMO.

On the other hand, there’s an article by Matthew Parris which says that Boris is conceivably one of the only people who could sell the revoking of Article 50. Being the person who got us into this mess with his bloody red bus.

It’s a lot to hope for however and there are darker forces at work IMO.

Yes he will

Boris is the reason that we are leaving the EU

When he has a platform when he can lead he is extremely effective in winning people over he has stayed in the background and quiet for a reason

But many might feel his time has passed this is what will hold him back from being PM

Applesbananaspears · 25/05/2019 13:17

I have a horrible feeling it will be Boris. I still won’t vote labour though even though I’m a labour person, he is better than Corbyn. It would be ideal if the Labour Party could also have a new leader and then at least we might have hope of a functional government or opposition

<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=newsthump.com/2019/05/24/new-worst-prime-minister-in-history-set-to-be-in-place-for-july" target="_blank">https://newsthump.com/2019/05/24/new-worst-prime-minister-in-history-set-to-be-in-place-for-july/

A new Worst Prime Minister in History will be in place by July of this year.

The new Worst Prime Minister in History will replace Theresa May, the current Worst Prime Minister in History,
who replaced the previous Worst Prime Minister in History, David Cameron.

SinjunRivers · 25/05/2019 13:30

Please not Esther Mcvey. Cannot stand her

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/05/2019 13:35

Actually correct myself Farage is the reason we are leaving the EU (another political player who is good at winning over voters)

Boris took the reigns and got the result I don’t think we would be leaving if he hadn’t lead the Leave campaign

Amanduh · 25/05/2019 13:38

Boris. I think he’d win a GE too.

Alsohuman · 25/05/2019 13:39

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all those white middle aged and elderly men voted Boris in and he decided we’d remain after all?

fedup21 · 25/05/2019 13:41

I don’t think it will be Boris. Please, no.

Drasticaction · 25/05/2019 13:48

I thought Boris et Al were accused of running away from the mess they created through hypnosis medium of a bus. .. now they want to take the reigns and get us through...no one wants them toConfused

LouiseCollins28 · 25/05/2019 13:55

Depend if Boris gets through to the final 2 imo, and who gets through with him if he does make it. I said on another thread that I thought it’s a shame Amber Rudd isn’t standing and that personally I’d pick. Phil Hammond. If a “stop Boris” is needed im not sure whether the best bet is Gove or Hunt.

shartsi · 25/05/2019 14:07

Anyone but Corbyn. He is truly awful. He secretly wants no deal and will bankrupt the country afterwards. I wish Labour had a better leader.

fedup21 · 25/05/2019 14:15

Boris with No Deal is more scary.

MRex · 25/05/2019 14:19

@shartsi - I know the phrase is "anything can happen in politics" but of all the things Corbyn might become, next Tory leader seems amongst the most unlikely.

Jsmith99 · 25/05/2019 14:23

Sadly, I think Boris is nailed on. The Tory MPs know very well that he is a lazy, shambolic and disorganised clown and that, to put it politely, there are serious question marks about his character and integrity but they will decide he is their best chance of winning the next election.

It’s very worrying.

Tavannach · 25/05/2019 14:23

You're joking, right?
I'm no fan of Corbyn, but even I can see he's a misguided fool adhering to out outmoded principles.

Johnson on the other hand is an unprincipled, arrogant, lying, lazy, sexually incontinent bastard of a man who would sell his own mother to advance his career.

woohootoyou · 25/05/2019 14:31

As a Brexit voter I'd be happy with Johnson.

ChariotsofFish · 25/05/2019 14:36

I think Rory Stewart would win if it was a public choice and he could get enough publicity. Unfortunately it’s the headbanger members of the Conservatives who will have the vote, so we’ll probably get Boris. Who will prove even less capable of handling the situation than May. Our political system is ridiculous.
