To think 8:45 isn’t time for.....

Ostentatious family garden time?

My next door neighbours seem to think it is. Every night they bring their toddler out about this time and then loudly whoop and shout joyous declarations at such things such as him kicking a ball or them all dancing in a circle clapping their hands.

It’s really annoying

Come off it it’s their garden and might be the only time they have together as a family during the day.

You’re being a grump. 8.45 isn’t late. It’s their garden. Put the radio on if you really can’t bear to listen to them enjoy it.

I assumed you meant in the morning, which would annoy me a bit, if it weren't a working day, but I'd still accept it was perfectly reasonable for someone to do.
Evening, I can't see any problem with it.

I have neighbours like this. They cannot be in their garden with the children without loudly narrating everything they are doing, clapping, squealing, and generally making far more noise than the children themselves. They dont stop their kids from screaming at full volume either. Everyone in a 1mile radius clearly needs to know they are enjoying their garden, no matter what time it is.

Plus they just got bloody chickens to add on to the noise factor. 6.40am they were making a lot of noise yesterday. Not cool.

YABU it's 8:45 and like someone else has said, maybe it's the only time they have together.

It's light and warm and running about the garden is a good way of tiring a toddler out (put my two to bed just under 2 hours ago and they are still ridiculously awake so to be honest I might be heading out there myself too)!

Ha no I’ve never shouted. I don’t think it’s the time so much although it’s a bit annoying as we can’t open our daughters window. It’s the loud whooping at ‘look at how much fun we’re having’, no-one needs to whoop that much. No one has that much fun.

Anyway shouldn’t a 2 year old be in bed!

Eugh, sorry if I'm grumpy but I agree. I'm having a nightmare with my own neighbours, kids constantly shouting in the garden in the evening, two puppies barking and older kids playing ridiculously loud music.
People can be really inconsiderate and it's making me hate my home.

My 2 year old goes to bed at 9.30/10pm and we had her out playing with a ball the other day at 8.30pm

Not all 2-yr-olds are in bed at 8.45pm. How old is your DD if all this seems surprising to you?

YABU. Maybe that’s the only time they get as a family and they’re probably trying to exhaust him before bedtime. Stop being such a grumpy sod.

I wish my nearly 2 year old was in bed at 8.45. My little one loves a play in the garden before he gets his jammies on and goes to bed. I don’t think we’re overly noisy when we’re out but I do cheer him on because he’s very proud of everything he does and so am I. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@spongebobjudgeypants that’s exactly it. Performance garden partying. Performance parenting. They’ll be the ones loudly declaring ‘oh Rufus you’ve drawn an amazing butterfly’ at his scribble during playgroup.
