Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

That unique situation really shows how important the 'heir and spare' is.

It really does.

It also shows why Harry won't be at all irrelevant until George is 18.

Haworthia

That photo of George and Nicky always makes me Shock

They could have been twins! The resemblance is extraordinary.

So no baby yet. This really is a looooong pregnancy or does it just seem that way?

I can well believe the suggestion that the baby will do a photo shoot in Vogue with mummy and daddy.

@Buddywoo

Nasty old cow - hope you gave her one back 🙄

justasking111 · 29/04/2019 22:40

A friends Mother came from a moneyed family one of her siblings was locked away as a 4 year old. A trust was set up to care for her for the whole of her lifetime. My friend was inheriting whatever was left, she lived into her late 80`s. The family were not secretive about it. It was just the mindset of the day. The tragedy was that her Mother never had a child of her womb because of the fear of it being genetic.

Prince Michael and \princess Michael were hogging the outside lane of a dual carriageway near Gloucester, doing about 45 mph. They wouldn't shift so we eventually undertook. She gave us the finger.

I'm not surprised in the slightest! They always come across as entitled, inconsiderate idiots.

Meeting prince Andrew tomorrow!

I reckon MM is purposely keeping her legs crossed so D and DoC get a bit more heat over the affair. Once the baby makes an appearance PW will be off the hook.

That's my theory anyway.

@lyralalala- that makes excellent sense! Everyone got super-royalified and wings clipped because the succession looked dicey til Liz was on the throne with Charles in waiting.

@pixie- the bicycle made for two song.

@PierreBezukhov, the issue was that the Tsarina was German. She was Princess Alix of Hesse- a German state before her marriage. Princess Alice of the United Kingdom - her DM- had married into Germany. "Taking in a German" was a real problem, and the Russian RF were understandably a package deal (quite literally all the Russias).

George was a character. He even had an obligatory navy tatt, which I think he acquired in the orient when he was a boy sailor along with his brother Prince Eddy (who also had one). The bottom once fell out of his chair as he was about to broadcast the Kings Speech. He apparently found it quite funny and cracked on!

lyralalala · 29/04/2019 22:46

There's a series on Netflix called The Royal House of Windsor and they cover 1917 in the first episode.

The Tsar's great niece, Princess Olga Romanov, talks about the situation and the secrecy around it being George's decision to say no to the family. Her grandfather was an advisor to the Tsar.

It also talks about how lots of people in Britain were happy about the fall of the Tsar and in favour of the Russian revolution.

The programme has access to some of the records from the royal library in Windsor.

Ooooh this is my list....

Did you pay for any of Eugenie’s wedding?
Are you waiting for DoE to pop his clogs so you can marry Fergie again?
What do you really think of MM? Go on be honest.

@justasking111

That's so sad 😥

JFK had a sister Rosemary who was kept in an institute after a lobotomy 😖 she died in her 80s too.

Now stories about that family could definitely be a thread derailer 😉

hoteltango · 29/04/2019 22:50

lyralalala - very interesting regarding the Gloucesters and Kents. I've never really understood why they've been involved in royal duties.

Wasn't there some conspiracy theory about the Gloucester who died in the air crash?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 29/04/2019 22:50

Yes this thread has definitely gone quite high brow, in my mind some of the posters on this thread look like this!

@DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops that makes excellent sense! Everyone got super-royalified and wings clipped because the succession looked dicey til Liz was on the throne with Charles in waiting.

Exactly.

The changes in a short space of time were huge.

In 1935 there was George and Mary on the throne. They had David, Bertie, Henry and George carrying out royal duties, along with Princess Mary. Henry and George had recently married so there was Alice and Marina had joined Elizabeth in the daughter in law camp.

By 1942 Bertie and Elizabeth were King and Queen. David was the family outcast and George was killed in a plane crash leaving Marina single parent to three very, very young children.

The number of adult royals to carry out royal duties was diminishing quickly! So it's no real wonder that the Kent's and the Duke of Gloucester ended up as pretty much full time royals in their younger days. They were needed as the older generation mostly died young, or abdicated.

Well they're American royalty, so not technically derailing.

There was a couple of conspiracy theories over the Duke of Kent's air crash.

There was someone on the plane that was never identified. Also the sole survivor is reported to have said that the Duke was flying and he moved him from the pilot seat after. There was a lot of theories as it was wartime.

He was also quite a colourful character!

Prince William of gloucester's crash was in an air show competition. I don't think there was any doubts over that one.
