Smokers are selfish and clearly not very clever

Today I tried to enjoy the sun but everywhere I went there were smokers puffing away in front of my kids and their own children. It was at the cafe, ice cream store, restaurants, park. Absolutely disgusting. It's hot and my family want to enjoy outside spaces too.

I dont know anyone that smokes. Smokers must have pretty low levels of intelligence if they are willing to slowly kill their bodies even though there is loads of information out there regarding the harms. Why do people smoke still? And do they just not give a damn about smoking in front of children? What goes through their head when they light up in front of a baby in a pram?

The low intelligence part is very unreasonable, it's simply not true and makes you sound horrible.

So why smoke? I've never understood it.

And why smoke in front of babies?

Oh and they still smoke because it's incredibly addictive as I'm sure you know. Smoking near children however is just unnecessary and wrong.

Nicotine is more addictive than heroin, for a start. Also the reasons why people smoke are complex. You sound very ill informed, is that because you are thick?

I'm a smoker and I'd say relatively intelligent. I think you're a bit OTT.

Don't tarnish all smokers with the same brush. It makes you seem like you have a low level of intelligence. I used to smoke, but always made sure I was not in the vicinity of my kids or anyone else's.

I was forced to move several times today. I'm talking about enjoying a coffee at a cafe and being forced to move because smokers sat down and lit up right next to my kids. It absolutely stinks. Why should we move? Can't they go down an alley or wait til they get home.

I think it should be banned in public spaces.

I’ve quit. And I’ve fell off the wagon a few times. Deaths, depression... believe me sometimes it’s one thing that’s got me through.

It’s hard to get off them, for sure. And I know what it does to my body. I assume you’ve never been a smoker?

Surely you are 'clever' enough to realise that it's an addiction and not that easy for many people to simply quit. Similarly many smokers wouldn't dream of smoking anywhere near any kids. Nice of you to generalise though

I really don't care if people smoke, but i get very pissed off they puff away next to me and look at me as if I'm the one with the problem when I ask them to move away from me with their smoke.

Not wanting people to smoke right next to you is reasonable.

I tend not to believe people going on like you do about smokers. You just hate them, you’re not being followed around by them blowing smoke all over your baby

They are addicts. They're not of low intelligence , it a habit that's hard to break. I hate fag smoke too - I am an ex smoker of 15 years but gave up 10 years ago.
To be honest smoking in public places has really declined I think. Very occasionally does it bother me now.

You sound seriously judgemental and ignorant they don’t do it deliberately harm people and we don’t have low intelligence either and I say that as someone who smoked for 13 years and quit a week ago to sort out my health issues.

I'm a smoker, I'm not stupid enough to know it will likely kill me if I don't stop, but I am horribly addicted.

However, I am a very considerate smoker, I wouldn't smoke around babies, children, people eating, etc, in fact a lot of people don't even realise I smoke.

You sound horrible, very judgemental and very rude. Although you mightnt like the smell, being around cigarette smoke outdoors is no more harmful to you than walking down a busy street, and actually I find most smokers these days are considerate as it is so anti social, vapers are worse imo, huge clouds of stink that seem to be more acceptable somehow

You're not clever enough to work out that you shouldn't get your knickers in a twist about what other people do with their lives, so...

Hmmm, I'd never voice my opinion out loud, but I don't understand why people smoke in 2019 tbh. I worked on a respiratory ward, and seeing the effects of smoking has put me off for life. People didn't know the risks years ago, but now pretty much everyone must know. But as long as no one smokes in my face it's not my business what they do.

I sympathise, OP. Fag smoke makes me feel physically sick, quite apart from the stink and the health damage. I don’t understand why smokers are allowed to pollute the air we breathe with toxic carcinogenic chemicals - if they were a commercial company, they’d be shut down by environmental health inspectors!
Thankfully, smoking is declining steadily. 50% of smokers will be killed by their habit, and tobacco firms are not managing to recruit as many young addicts to replace the dead ones.
I’d like to see it made illegal in public places, so they have to do it inside their own houses with the doors shut. That would protect the rest of us and our right to clean air and a healthy environment.
