Smokers are selfish and clearly not very clever

Today I tried to enjoy the sun but everywhere I went there were smokers puffing away in front of my kids and their own children. It was at the cafe, ice cream store, restaurants, park. Absolutely disgusting. It's hot and my family want to enjoy outside spaces too.

I dont know anyone that smokes. Smokers must have pretty low levels of intelligence if they are willing to slowly kill their bodies even though there is loads of information out there regarding the harms. Why do people smoke still? And do they just not give a damn about smoking in front of children? What goes through their head when they light up in front of a baby in a pram?

I have a doctor friend who is a ‘social smoker’ and a few of my teacher colleagues smoke including a couple who have masters degrees. Your argument squashed right there, HTH.

Those people probably don't usually smoke but just lit up so that you would move away from them.

It’s definitely not a matter of intelligence. There are a lot of highly intelligent and successful people who drive around like maniacs.

My asthmatic neighbour (in her 30s) is currently mowing her lawn. She stops every 5 minutes or so to 'catch her breath' which involves coughing a lot and rolling another fag. I really don't understand why she'd do it to herself and it makes me sad when she agrees that it's a terrible habit and she's definitely planning to quit at some point.

I know some very intelligent people who smoke so not sure what that's got to do with it, but any smoker who smokes in a crowded outdoor space is being a bit selfish, basically saying their needs and comfort are more important than yours. That includes people stood in front of me in a queue, sat outside a cafe at a table next to me when I am eating, stood next to me in a crowd watching an outdoor gig or a street entertainer, sat/stood at a bus stop, or even just walking down a crowded shopping street. It's immediately noticeable and unpleasant, especially when the person is right next to you, why should I be the one who has to move elsewhere, go indoors or lose my place in a queue etc..

I dont care how many qualifications a person has, if they smoke they're being stupid

How much would income tax have to go up to make up for the £12bn or so in tobacco duty that would be lost if all smokers stopped smoking tomorrow?

We tend to die earlier, than non-smokers too, so the pension bill would go up if we all stopped.
