Smokers are selfish and clearly not very clever

Today I tried to enjoy the sun but everywhere I went there were smokers puffing away in front of my kids and their own children. It was at the cafe, ice cream store, restaurants, park. Absolutely disgusting. It's hot and my family want to enjoy outside spaces too.

I dont know anyone that smokes. Smokers must have pretty low levels of intelligence if they are willing to slowly kill their bodies even though there is loads of information out there regarding the harms. Why do people smoke still? And do they just not give a damn about smoking in front of children? What goes through their head when they light up in front of a baby in a pram?

Hmm yes it's rude to light up next to children or other people but ... your low intelligence seems to have not noticed that the cars your all driving around in are letting off nasty gasses that us smokers have to breathe in (and our children) but none the less we won't notice we've got such low intelligence ... twat

PortiaCastis · 21/04/2019 21:22

I think OP is goading and will no longer take any notice of her

ChocChocButtons · 21/04/2019 21:23

Smoking killed my dad, wish he had stopped earlier. He was very intelligent however. I hate to see people smoke now, I want to slap them lol

Anerak · 21/04/2019 21:23

Yanbu, the Dutch have a campaign called "on the way to a smoke free generation". De-normalising it in society so that children realise how ridiculous it is. Uk needs to follow suit but tobacco industry probably has top much of a hold

happyhillock · 21/04/2019 21:23

Breathe fresh air!! Don't you watch the news!!

DeftandGlory · 21/04/2019 21:24

I smoke after starting at 33. I like that’s it a bit wrong. I enjoy a sneaky fag.
I also over eat, over drink and suck my thumb so very orally fixated.

It would spoil it smoking in public outside of a pub maybe, tbh. Except in Europe where smoking is still everywhere,

chocomug · 21/04/2019 21:24

Don't feed the troll

C0untDucku1a · 21/04/2019 21:25

Well it is obviously unreasonable to say smokers are unintelligent.

But i do think theyre selfish. Smoking is awful for other people. To do it in public says you really dont give a crap about other people around you. Doing it in front of the doors to a hospital is a fucking disgrace.

forever390 · 21/04/2019 21:25

Yeah I'd like to see us all drive greener cars too, one step at a time though. Others doing things that are a risk to others or shouldn't be allowed... it's the reason we can't buy heroin in the local corner shop, it's the reason I'm not allowed to take a crap in the street, it's the reason we have banned some breeds of dangerous dogs

Smoking in public places is dangerous to other people. Fact.

A bit of nice weather and the smoker bashers crawl down from their pedestals.

I can’t wait for the follow up dog in a park and BBQ threads.

Chill out, OP. Have a fag. 🤷🏻‍♀️

People get cancer all the time though, I knew two people with throat cancer, one was my grandad, neither of them ever smoked. My mum smoked 40 a day for years and is fine, my uncle who never smoked got lung cancer. There are numerous cancers aside from lung cancer. In fact of all the people I know who have had cancer, not one of them was a smoker. Maybe if I had seen someone first hand, suffering from smoking I would feel differently, but I haven’t. So to me, I don’t really care about stats, a lot of it is down to luck in the end anyway, Theres a thread going on now about staying healthy and the majority of answers have said it’s down to genetics and luck. So I’m ok with taking my chances and just enjoying my life.

Greeborising · 21/04/2019 21:26

We all know that smoking is bad for our health
That’s not the point!
The point (to me anyway) of this post is that OP has no business saying that smokers are of low intelligence!

thenightsky · 21/04/2019 21:26

I've never smoked. But on these nice sunny days I'd actually choose to sit next to a smoker outdoors. The risk to me from their smoke is tiny/non-existent outdoors, but I do love the way their smoke keeps away mosquitos, midges, wasps etc. Sit next to a smoker and enjoy summer Grin

DoneLikeAKipper · 21/04/2019 21:28

Smoking in public places is dangerous to other people. Fact

I’ve never known catching the rare whiff of someone else’s smoke to ever be actually dangerous to other people. Have you got proof of sitting next to a smoker killing anyone? More so than driving a car, for example?

Yesicancancan · 21/04/2019 21:28

Are you a smoker op?
There is a lot of research into smokers who actually want to quit, but can’t cope with the side effects. It’s not a simple matter of choice.
Banning it in public is not the answer, people will still smoke in front of their children at home.

Yesicancancan · 21/04/2019 21:28

I’m a non smoker

Absolutepowercorrupts · 21/04/2019 21:29

@forever390
Adding FACT at the end of a post doesn't make it a fact. HTH

forever390 · 21/04/2019 21:29

See posts that say "my friend died of cancer and she never had a fag in her life" and similar make me want to cry. Read some scientific papers people.

Damon hill used to drive his car at 200mph but do I fancy doing that through town and past a school?

Many people have injected heroin into their eyeballs and lived to tell the story but do I think that it's a good idea to copy? Nooooo

I enjoy a cigarette now and again, especially with a g&t! I'm definitely not of low intelligence, or so the phd, masters and bachelors degree certificates on my walls keep telling me Wink. However, I only ever smoke in adult only places (e.g. outside a designated smoking area of a pub at night or my own back garden), and would never light up in front of a child. I too hate sitting having a meal and smelling smoke. Of course I know the risks, but I reckon the smog in the city I live in will kill me before the 5 or so cigs a month I have will. Also research now says that obesity is (will be) a bigger killer than smoking, as will loneliness. Are people who don't have a bmi between 18-30 also 'low intelligence'?

Absolutepowercorrupts · 21/04/2019 21:30

Asta19 · 21/04/2019 21:32

maybe you should look into statistics. You have a 50% chance to die prematurely from a smoking-related illness

Ah but that’s the other thing, I don’t want to live till I’m 90 suffering from dementia in a care home. To me that’s a worse fate than any death I may suffer from smoking. So what it may knock 10 years off my life? If it’s the years from 80-90 then all good! i’m happy with that!

warriorprincessandwidowed · 21/04/2019 21:32

Your a judgemental human....

Good God help your children with you as a parent...

And by the way... when my husband bled out and died in my arms it's the fucking Marlboro light that steadied me to tell my 3 young children that the screams they heard was there daddy dying..... so fuck you

I'm happy for people to smoke as long as they have a full face helmet ( like a diver's!) over their whole head so they can fully enjoy all that nicotine has to offer and others are unaffected.
