Smokers are selfish and clearly not very clever

Today I tried to enjoy the sun but everywhere I went there were smokers puffing away in front of my kids and their own children. It was at the cafe, ice cream store, restaurants, park. Absolutely disgusting. It's hot and my family want to enjoy outside spaces too.

I dont know anyone that smokes. Smokers must have pretty low levels of intelligence if they are willing to slowly kill their bodies even though there is loads of information out there regarding the harms. Why do people smoke still? And do they just not give a damn about smoking in front of children? What goes through their head when they light up in front of a baby in a pram?

OP
You’ve made your point
You think smokers are stupid
We get it
Are you, in any way, able to understand that many, many things we do and indulge in are definitely not good for our health?
We know!
To question the intelligence of someone who lives in a way that you disapprove of is very small minded indeed

gamerchick · 21/04/2019 21:38

Suns out! Let the smoking threads commence

Orangeballon · 21/04/2019 21:39

I don’t like smoking either and can’t understand, what with all the education and help available that people still smoke, especially at outside eating tables.

gamerchick · 21/04/2019 21:39

I was forced to move several times today

Did you tut loudly each time? Please say you did. Added points for a pointed glare Grin

Asta19 · 21/04/2019 21:39

Your last post makes no sense. And actually i’ve Read a lot of scientific papers. Have you ever heard about the fact that not all dogs are allergic to chocolate? But a good number are. So the advice is that dogs should not be given chocolate full stop because there is no way of knowing which dog is allergic until they suffer a reaction, which can be deadly.

Apparently the same is true of smoking. Some people could smoke 60 a day all their lives and never suffer any ill effects, hence why people often know someone who smoked into their 90s and was fine. But there is no way to know if you are one of these people or not, so safest to say smoking is bad for everyone. The fact is smoking does not kill everyone who smokes. That is a fact.

CallMeRachel · 21/04/2019 21:40

Loads if people are massively missing the point. Being addicted to fags doesn't explain or excuse smoking in a busy outdoor cafe in close proximity to others including children.

I think smoking should be banned in all food areas whether indoor or outdoor.

Passive smoking is a risk to others health.

Drinking alcohol or eating too much sugar only negatively affects the person consuming it, it doesn't spread across the room like smoke does so I'm not sure why these comparisons have been made here.

DaisysStew · 21/04/2019 21:40

FFS, you can’t ban smoking inside public buildings and then bitch because we’re all outside smoking. It’s legal, we have a right to do it and you have a choice to walk away if you don’t want to be around it.

I smoke because I want to, not because I am ignorant of the consequences. Even if I wasn’t “intelligent” I can still read the bloody warnings plastered all over the packets.

I’m well aware that it will probably kill me, that’s my problem not yours. I’ve had a horrible life and you know what, having a little ciggy is one of the few things that still bring me pleasure so I really don’t care what random people think of it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Asta19 · 21/04/2019 21:41

You describe yourself as intelligent repeatedly
No, I said it once.

Absolutely, I take back my point about intelligence. Although many comments on risk tonight make me want to cry.

It seems many people that are intelligent smoke too. So it can't be that.

But I stand by point regarding selfish people. What makes someone light up next to a strangers baby? If it's not intelligence related it must be that they are incredibly selfish and self centred.

And to force their own children they love to breathe second hand smoke... those people must be selfish too. They must put their own 5 minutes of pleasure above anything else.

OP posts:
Whisky2014 · 21/04/2019 21:43

I think smoking should be banned in all public places. It is really annoying to breathe is shit that's expelled from someone else's lungs and that is shit for our bodies. Ok, yanbu about that.

bigchris · 21/04/2019 21:43

I think smoking should be banned in all food areas whether indoor or outdoor

But pubs have to serve food now to survive, so you're saying smokers can't smoke in the pub garden now

Pubs are struggling as it is

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 21/04/2019 21:44

I dont know anyone that smokes.

I find that claim quite astonishing. How many people do you know? Given its something like 1/5 people smoke...and I assume a hell of a lot vape also.

Whisky2014 · 21/04/2019 21:45

@WhentheRabbitsWentWild do you actually talk to people like that or just through a screen and internet connection?

RomanyQueen1 · 21/04/2019 21:46

Oh the irony.
You don't understand something yet say others have no intelligence.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 21/04/2019 21:46

@warriorprincesandwidowed
💐💐for you and if the Marlboro lights got you through that horrific experience then no judgment from me. Speaking as a desperately trying to be an ex smoker.

Cba to respond to the op, they're so opinionated and funnily enough so stupid and thick that there is no point.

Asta19 · 21/04/2019 21:47

What makes someone light up next to a strangers baby

All arguments aside, that is something I would never do. If I’m walking along the street smoking and can see someone with a child in front of me, I will cross the road. I never light up around children.

Zoflorabore · 21/04/2019 21:48

For those who don't know anyone that smoke- where do you live? The fucking moon?
Or do you choose to not see the peasants?

Most of my neighbours ( in a very nice street ) smoke, at least I won't have to start a "selfish neighbour smoking in garden" thread like the one on here tonight.

So predictable :)

thedragonwithblueeyes · 21/04/2019 21:50

Must stop smoking so I can live in your perfect world OP 🙄

MyMumDimensionJumps · 21/04/2019 21:51

You should try going back in time to a dive bar pre 2007 before the smoking ban was introduced. That was grim. You would literally explode with rage. You also had to contend with swaying inebriated people waving something that could scar you or set your dress alight on the dancefloor too.

Lovemusic33 · 21/04/2019 21:51

If smokers have a low intelligence then so must drinkers, gamblers and drug addicts? (oh, don’t forget obese people).

I don’t like smoke, I don’t really understand why people do it, I smoked before I had kids mainly as a social thing but now I like the feeling of healthy lungs but that’s my choice, some people don’t chose that because it’s something they enjoy doing, the same with drinking or stuffing your face with chocolate.

Lovestruk · 21/04/2019 21:52

I don't think anybody is arguing with you about smoking being bad forever but I think it's about your attitude here calling people thick and what not maybe practice kindness to all, smokers included. Ppl generally get defensive when "attacked" be a bigger person and don't disrespect yourself by being and prick x peace and love to all xxx
