To think a teacher should not call a pupil an idiot!

Year 7, ds was messing with some magnet balls which he'd taken in without me knowing (he's not taking them into school again).
He got given a warning, and then second warning which means detention. I have no issue with this, he should do as he's told, but my issue is, he asked if he should take his stuff with him (at the end of the lesson when he'd been referred), the teacher replied "take your paper you idiot".
I have actually emailed the school to ask, and just been brushed off really. Aibu?

Call the school and ask to speak to the teacher concerned, and take it from there.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 14/03/2019 17:11

Yes YABU - they get called a lot worse than that in my kids high school

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/03/2019 17:12

Well it probably isnt the best choice of words but it certainly wouldnt be the thing I was most irate about in this.

SmileEachDay · 14/03/2019 17:13

Brushed off how?

AguerosAngel · 14/03/2019 17:13

Well, the teacher isn’t wrong if he’s had to be told twice not to do something and still carried on.

I’d be more bothered about the defiance/poor behaviour personally.

MuseumofInnocence · 14/03/2019 17:14

Yabu

Theknacktoflying · 14/03/2019 17:14

what are you wanting from the school for this?

Amanduh · 14/03/2019 17:14

Well he was being at idiot

Amanduh · 14/03/2019 17:14

An, even

YouTheCat · 14/03/2019 17:17

I'd be concentrating on your child's poor behaviour.

Your child was behaving like an idiot. I'd say he needs to suck it up and learn to do as he's asked.

SnowdropsiUnderTrees · 14/03/2019 17:17

Cotton wool, get your cotton wool here...

BiggerBoat1 · 14/03/2019 17:17

I'd be addressing your son's behaviour, not the teacher's.

LL83 · 14/03/2019 17:18

I would be more concerned about childs behaviour than the word idiot.

deenagh · 14/03/2019 17:19

Yabu

Contraceptionismyfriend · 14/03/2019 17:19

Sounds like a bit of an idiot TBH.

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 14/03/2019 17:20

I don't deny he was misbehaving, as I said in my post, I have no issue with him being given sanctions for that. I have dealt with the behaviour myself too, but... why should a grown man call an 11 year old an idiot, even if he was being one. I don't agree with someone calling a pupil names!
I spoke to the member of staff that emailed me about it, and said basically what I've said above, and he has just replied with "I completely understand your actions as ds parent".

No, the teacher shouldn’t call a child an idiot.
Even a disrespectful , irritating child who is playing with magnets powerful enough to damage technology around them and who is asking stupid questions.
The teacher should say ‘Yes, you need to take all your belongings with you’ in the same even monotone used to remind travellers.
Whatever thoughts are rampaging through their heads.
Is it his first detention at secondary?

ThreeBagsFullofWool · 14/03/2019 17:21

Why is verbal abuse acceptable from a teacher but not a partner? 🤔

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 14/03/2019 17:21

@Notsuch
Really? You're ok with that 😬

BiggerBoat1 · 14/03/2019 17:21

You need to let this go. Your child was in the wrong. He'll get called a lot worse as he goes through life Grin

Theknacktoflying · 14/03/2019 17:21

He apologised for what the teacher said .... what more do you want?

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 14/03/2019 17:23

As I've already stated, I have dealt with the behaviour, I'm certainly no snowflake, I won't have rudeness and bad behaviour, and he knows that.

OP posts:
Contraceptionismyfriend · 14/03/2019 17:24

I'd be OK with a teacher calling my child an idiot if they were being an idiot as yours was.

Wanker, twat, cunt waffle I would kick off about. But not an idiot.

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 14/03/2019 17:24

@theknack.
He did not apologise in the slightest.

OP posts:
10IAR · 14/03/2019 17:25

Well if he didn't say it he has no need to apologise, so I'd concentrate on finding out if he actually said it first.
