To think our Prime Minister has lost the plot and is now completely bonkers?

We're supposed to be leaving next month.
Theresa May's withdrawal agreement was voted down in Parliament and she didn't even have the good grace to be in the Commons for the results of the latest votes on amendments.

The EU has said there will be no further negotiation on it - so what exactly is TMay discussing with them as she charges around Europe like a dementor?

There's going to be another Meaningful Hmm Vote in two weeks but how can she offer anything new if EU say they won't alter the backstop?

She looks unwell and on edge and please don't anyone say they feel sorry for her - she wanted the job and she's made a total mess of it and I don't see how she can sort it out because she's too stubborn and too vindictive. And incompetent.

OP - yes I think she has lost the plot and is making a terrible hash of this, it is pretty alarming. I do think the whole Brexit negotiations were always going to be a poisoned chalice for whoever took them on. But TM is not up to the job she has character flaws which mean she was never going to succeed. She isn;t a good negotiator, she went in with the 'no deal is better than a bad deal' attitude which put everyone;s backs up. She is stubborn and intransigent to the point of blind stupidity and has left it far too late to actually look at other options and consult with other people. There is no excuse for the way this shambles has been conducted and shameful that people's livlihoods are being treated so recklessly.

Her mother’s been dead for years. Yes, she’s completely useless. “Sources close to” don’t have a good word to say about her, apparently she’s insular, rude, stubborn and won’t listen to anyone. Not that Corbyn’s any better. History will judge them both very harshly.

Yes I do think the stress of it all has done a number on her. I don't think she's making rational decisions at all. The mess is largely of her own doing as she refused to listen to other's views and has created the red lines she's now stuck to.

Yep

She negotiated the backstop. The Neville Chamberlain "peace for our time" moment. The appeasement at all costs. She's proposing a bad deal which wants voting down.

But the Tories who kept her in power a few weeks ago don't deserve to be MPs

And the other MP bastards who are refusing to leave at all are just as culpable.

Where is our latterday Winston Churchill, a hero to save us from European expansionism again?

I'm no fan of TM, but Ive thought that she looked unwell for some time. Very bloated and puffy. Obviously the stress of Brexit can't have helped, but I think there's more to it than that.

Gth - The backstop is necessary. It's that or have custom checks across the Irish Sea (which the DUP won't support even though the NI public do), or keep the UK in the customs union. Or no deal.

Only laughing because otherwise I'd be wailing in despair at the situation.

May only excels at three things

  1. extreme loyalty to her party (not country)
  2. obstinance
  3. her devotion to being anti-immigration

The task at in hand is utterly beyond her capabilities so on we drift to catastrophe. She is the worst PM the UK has ever had, and yes I include Cameron in that.

Her devotion to anti-immigration didn't extend to actually enforcing the rules when she was Home Secretary, though, did it. Rules that other EU countries enforced with no issues.

Is there an easy way to quote a posting?

It wasn't a poisoned chalice. It needed a charismatic leader to negotiate from a position of strength. From Day 1, base the deal on a clean break and immediately start making trade deals with our new friends. Always assuming that Australia and NZ would have the grace to be our friends given the way we dropped them like a proverbial when we joined the EU, as those of us with longer memories might recall. It needed an aspirational and charismatic leader. Cameron could possibly have done it, but he wasn't a true patriot, just another upper class Tory.

It needed a leader to enthuse the population, to build on the 17M, to convert us all to leavers, and take us out of the EU to a brave new world. Instead Cameron scuttled, and the Tories bottled it twice by first appointing and then keeping May. Johnson bottled it the first time, and Rees-Mogg bottled it the second time by not standing for leader.

The Tories should have brought Nigel Farage inside the tent after the referendum.

Nigel Farage should have stayed with UKIP and we voters bottled it when we deserted UKIP in 2017.

YANBU. Anyone with a grain of common sense can see that this is an utter disaster for the country. Stuff the referendum; it was rigged and people had no idea that this would be the result. She needs to get a backbone and do what’s right for the country, not her party or her political standing. Either scrap the whole sorry mess or sign up to a customs union ASAP. And if she doesn’t want to take responsibility for that then she’s in the wrong job, quite frankly.

The backstop isn't necessary. Leaving the EU is more important than the Good Friday agreement, as far as I am concerned. Ireland is part of the EU. It's a foreign country.

Nonsense - we voters didn't desert UKIP. Most people never voted for them in the first place because they are appalling and Farage a self seeking, self aggrandising idiot. UKIP are a total irrelevance, supported by imbecilic Little Englanders and racists.

I despair, I really do. You clearly know nothing about Northern Ireland. And to prioritise Brexit over an international peace treaty which has saved thousands of lives (and which the UK is supposed to be protecting) is shameful. I actually think you're on a wind up.
