To ask what to expect from a Hollywood wax

Booked for tomorrow & now I’m worried.

OP posts:

About the pain or positions? It's not very dignified! But they'll have seen it all before. Presumably you've had a wax before so know it smarts a bit? But the pain only lasts a few seconds. X

Expect all the hair to be gone

PresidentHump · 26/02/2019 23:15

They will rip the hair out from all angles. Hair will be gone.

icouldwriteabook · 26/02/2019 23:15

Expect to be bald in the end, knickerless and in pain during. painful but not unbearable

PurpleWithRed · 26/02/2019 23:19

About as enjoyable and dignified as you expect but over very quickly. And feels amazing afterwards.

Cloudsandcandles · 26/02/2019 23:20

Had one today. Been to several places and they all have a very similar routine. You go in, they offer you a wipe to have a freshen up and leave you to take your bottom half off and lay on the bed with a towel to cover yourself. Knees up and out and soles of the feet together (one place I go asks you to do this with one leg at a time and let the other swing down the side of the bed) for the front part and then depending on where I go they either lay completely on my front or on my side and ask me to part my bum cheeks for the bum wax. Pluck a few ingrowns out and job done! It’s not awkward even though you think it will be and the end result always makes me feel clean and fresh! I only go to places that use Lycon wax and I find the pain completely bearable Smile

And feels amazing afterwards.

This^^

It’s worth it, OP!

MitziK · 26/02/2019 23:22

Pain.

Being so smooth, you feel shiny.

Leaving the salon feeling rather like a mildly radioactive plucked chicken.

And itchy regrowth. Oh God, the regrowth. Especially round the arse (they'll wax that as well - and I bet you never thought that you could possibly have a hairy arse).

Needless to say, after doing it once, DP has to make do with me rocking a 70s vibe and be grateful for it.

oldowlgirl · 26/02/2019 23:23

That sounds horrendous - what part of it feels amazing? Why does anyone do this?

CTRL · 26/02/2019 23:24

Specialist waxer here lol !

Ask for HOT WAX if they have it and even if it is slightly more expensive, it’s worth it

First you would need to remove your clothes ideally from the waist down (undies included) and lay on the bed with a soak towel covering your modesty until your therapist comes in to commence the wax.

Then you should put both legs bent (think frog legs) and hold your stomach / top of pubic area tight as it helps keep the skin taught when we remove the wax.

Deep breath as much as you can and try to talk to the therapist if you can as it does help. And remember its only a quick pain and usually treatment is done within 15/20 mins.

Also have your crack (bum hole) done - we’ve seen it so many times and honestly the wax will feel ‘incomplete’ without the whole area cleaned up. And you won’t realise how much hair is back there until you have it waxed Wink

After the wax you may feel about sore and abit sticky - it’s normal and the redness and sensitivity usually goes down within 24 hours. For the first 48 hours after the first wax I would suggest avoiding sex, exercise, tight clothes, swimming, hot baths, scented perfumed prouducts and and any sort of heat treatments (sun beds or sun bathing) as the skin could possibly react although it’s very rare.

Also after the first week after waxing start to exfoliate twice a week using an exfoliation glove as the body scrubs aren’t usually abrasive enough - to avoid getting ingrown hairs.

Your next wax should be due in 4-6 weeks although you may experience some hairs growing sooner especially after your first wax as hairs are sometimes at different stages of the growth cycle but continue to wax and it does regulate and you will notice a smoother finish after each wax.

PooleySpooley · 26/02/2019 23:24

Everything off.

Take some ibuprofen 20 minutes before 👍🏻 You are welcome.

CTRL · 26/02/2019 23:26

Small towel*

nutellalove · 26/02/2019 23:28

I feel short changed now. I've been having Hollywood waxes at the same salon for years and they've never once waxed my arse Shock not sure how to bring this up with them now... might have to change salons Blush

Booked for tomorrow & now I’m worried.

really? surely you could have least have googled apart from the fact you booked in for one without apparently knowing what it is?

Bizarre

CantStopMeNow · 26/02/2019 23:51

I get mine done at the Brazilian Waxing Company - they're the best.
Takes less about 5-10 mins, no pain (trim hair to about 2cm) and no itchy regrowth.
Never needed Ibuprofen.

RomanticFatigue · 26/02/2019 23:53

I think I would need a therapist after this, and not of the beautician kind Shock

Girlzroolz · 27/02/2019 00:00

I can recommend tea tree lotion for afterwards. It feels a bit intense going on (cold and stingy) but subsides very fast. Great for pain, itchiness (in the days afterwards), redness and antiseptic/antifungal to boot!

Whatever you do, don’t use straight tea tree essential oil on its own, or you’ll be straight through the roof of the salon like a cartoon character 🚀

It’s a couple of drops of the oil in a cream/ointment base. And keep it out of your ‘pink bits’ unless you enjoy the sensation of Fisherman’s Friend mints up your fanny.

Also those pre-wet witchazel pads you get at the pharmacy are very soothing. Not just for episiotomy stitches!

oldowlgirl · 27/02/2019 00:00

I'm still honestly struggling to understand why anyone does this?

Couchpotato3 · 27/02/2019 00:04

Because they like the look and feel of it, apparently. Each to their own.

Nothininmenoggin · 27/02/2019 00:07

PAINShock

PositiveVibez · 27/02/2019 00:08

Expect to look like the last chicken on the shelf in tesco's

Depends who you are doing it for.

For yourself - sound. Doing it cos you think a man will find it sexy - pointless.

jcmayj · 27/02/2019 00:14

I really want to have one of these done but can't even think of what the pain would be like!! Sad

Quintella · 27/02/2019 00:24

you won’t realise how much hair is back there until you have it waxed

Would it be considered bad form to ask to see how much hair exactly was removed from said crack, and then to coo proudly at it?

HennyPennyHorror · 27/02/2019 00:30

Why do people remove all their pubic hair? It has a job to do!

steff13 · 27/02/2019 00:30

If the esthetician is good, the pain is minimal. I've had good ones and bad ones, and it really makes a difference. I've never had itching on regrowth.
