Booked for tomorrow & now I’m worried.

IncrediblySadToo - Having RTDT, there are a lot of mentions of cleanliness and feeling clean. If anything is 'obnoxious' to me, it's the implication that having pubic hair makes you dirty in some way.

Each to their own - but medical studies on pre-childbirth shaving of mothers, which was done for reasons of 'hygiene', actually led to more post-partum infections - so I'll be leaving things as they are!

Grace212 · 27/02/2019 10:36

OP you're doing it for swimming?!

Loads of us go swimming and wouldn't contemplate this!

paap1975 · 27/02/2019 10:43

Had one about a month ago and was much less intimidating and painful than I thought. Didn't actually take the lot off (left some at the front). Best bit IMHO is getting the bum done. It's so soft afterwards. It also improves sensations in the area!

DorothyZbornak · 27/02/2019 10:45

Definitely hot wax as opposed to strip. I've had most of my hair waxed at some stage or other over the years and of everything, I still think that underarms are the worst by far. Hollywood is definitely less painful (for me anyway)

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 27/02/2019 10:47

Jeez I try to avoid pain not actively go looking for it.

MyBreadIsEggy · 27/02/2019 10:50

Pretty much what others have said:
-make sure the salon uses hot wax not strip wax.

  • The first one hurts like hell, more so round the front/top part of the vulva is the worst, the back and bum crack don’t really hurt that much.
  • You’ll be in some pretty undignified positions, but the beauticians look at an awful lot of fannies, so will have seen it all before!
  • It’s worth the pain. I prefer it to be all gone, and a Hollywood was gives me a good 5 weeks before I need to do any sort of grooming Smile
SemperIdem · 27/02/2019 10:50

Having had a vaginal birth, I’m confident that my choice to remove all my pubic hair doesn’t make me look at all childlike. It is just my preference.

Amongst younger men it is normal to remove all or be very groomed with minimal pubic hair too.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 27/02/2019 10:53

Ingrowing hairs, the pain, infections .. no thanks.

It does baffle me that so many women are reluctant to have a smear done but happily get their nether regions out for a complete plucking .

MetalMidget · 27/02/2019 11:17

Each to their own - but medical studies on pre-childbirth shaving of mothers, which was done for reasons of 'hygiene', actually led to more post-partum infections - so I'll be leaving things as they are!

There was a study that showed that female cyclists were more prone to infections if they shaved or waxed their pubic hair too.

I had mine Hollywooded for years - my husband liked it, and it did increase sensitivity for me. But ultimately I decided that it wasn't worth the initial pain, the discomfort of regrowth (although it's less than if you shave) or the risk of infection. Being able to save £60 every six weeks was a winner too!

Bleurghthatisall · 27/02/2019 11:21

Honestly I’m pretty into grooming but this has never made sense to me. I’ve had bikini waxes for a quick tidy up eg if going on holiday and swimming lots and generally keep things groomed. But the whole lot? I literally cannot see a plausible reason. It’s just pain, embarrassment, regrowth, itching etc for no benefit.

Can only conclude it is to please men or the whole cleanliness myth and anyone who suggests otherwise must be lying to themselves.

Underarms and legs yes (but only if they’re on display- much as I consider myself a feminist).

Gth1234 · 27/02/2019 11:24

Nice to be a man.

I don't understand why women want to do this. I doubt men are bothered one way or another, and I am sure you aren't doing it for yourselves. I watch Naked Attraction occasionally, and personally I don't find it so attractive.

JacquesHammer · 27/02/2019 11:25

I’m absolutely doing it for myself. Thanks for the insight though

Quintella · 27/02/2019 11:26

Oh great. A man has spoken and he's sure women aren't doing it for themselves.

Thank you, man, for your great wisdom.

Roomba · 27/02/2019 11:26

God, this sounds hideous. If anyone else wants to do it, fair enough - but it's definitely not for me! I cannot imagine contorting myself while a stranger waxes my bumhole. Think I'll stick to the 70s bush look (why is it referred to as 70s btw? Pretty sure women had hairy miffs for many thousands of years before the 70s) Grin

LastInTheQueue · 27/02/2019 11:29

I know this has nothing to do with OP’s question, but fun fact:
The popularity of pubic hair waxing has resulted in pubic lice now being endangered

Quintella · 27/02/2019 11:30

Or they also like the increased sensitivity it brings during sex. Or are people lying to themselves about that?

RosiePozie · 27/02/2019 11:34

Love my Hollywood wax. £25 every month is money well spent. No prodtruding pubes when I swim, feels less sweaty in the summer, I feel more confident during sex/oral sex without pubes and everything is much more sensitive and I just feel sexier. Boyfriend likes it but says he’d like it however I had myself down there.

calsovip · 27/02/2019 11:37

Everyone has such varying experiences wrt waxing it's actually quite fascinating to me.

For me, I just go in, take off my bottoms, therapist waxes the front, I flip over, bend my knee like the tree pose in yoga whilst still lying on my back to get some bits, she waxes the back while I'm lying down legs slightly spread apart, less exaggerated tree pose in yoga again, and we're done. It's not painful and we're typically chatting about random things the entire time. No weird positions or any awkwardness, really.

aibutohavethisusername · 27/02/2019 11:37

Ouch!!! Just ended up having bikini wax as the beautician said to build up to a Hollywood.

And yes I do always have my smear tests.

Think in 4 weeks I’ll go for more off and see how I get on.

OP posts:
Cheeeeislifenow · 27/02/2019 11:39

Why? Why? Why? Would someone put themselves through this? I'm sorry I just don't get it.

calsovip · 27/02/2019 11:42

Would someone put themselves through this?

There's no "putting yourself through this". It's just like getting your nails painted or something along those lines, especially since to me it doesn't really hurt at all.

Nesssie · 27/02/2019 11:43

Bleurghthatisall It’s just pain, embarrassment, regrowth, itching etc for no benefit. - I don't find it that painful, I don't find it embarrassing, the regrowth is the same sensation as shaving but takes a lot longer, I don't get ingrown hair. Cost £40 every 6 weeks which is well worth it.

Can only conclude it is to please men or the whole cleanliness myth and anyone who suggests otherwise must be lying to themselves.

It is cleaner when on my period, I wear swimming costumes a lot so don't have to worry about shaving (spiky/red/awful regrowth/comes back the next day), feel better about myself.

I'm not lying to myself or anyone. HTH

MatildaTheCat · 27/02/2019 11:52

Doesn’t hurt at all

Hmm we are all different. On the one and only occasion I had a bikini wax my skin bled quite a bit and I do think it was me not the waxer.

If there is any way to avoid such agony I’m all for it. Thank you Venus razers.

Unbelievable18 · 27/02/2019 11:55

I don't mind putting myself through it at all as I find the after effects worth the slight discomfort and embarrassment. Everyone is different. I do it for myself not for anyone else.

JacquesHammer · 27/02/2019 11:56

I'm sorry I just don't get it

You don’t get other people have different choices?
