Booked for tomorrow & now I’m worried.

OP posts:

I've been having my bikini and legs waxed since my earliest 20s, in my late mid 20s now and have progressed to even doing my under arms and have bought a wax pot and do myself every few weeks and save the money.
I like that you don't have to worry about shaving every other day and that there's less growth and thickness.
I also take everything off down below, and I personally prefer it, it does feel clean and fresh, not implying those with hair are unsanitary but until you've had it, you don't know the feeling. I occasionally leave a bit on top if I'm feeling like a bit of topiary.

Because I hate body hair. Eyebrows/eye lashes and head hair are acceptable anything else is not. I wouldn’t go near any man with a hairy back/sac/crack/chest etc. It started as a child pretty much as soon as I got pube and a first period it was horrible and I removed it all. I didn’t have a bf or watch porn I felt gross having period blood sat in hair that then pube issue has slowly grown over the years to other body parts. I have sensory texture issues too so shoot me for wanting to be happy in my own body.

steff13 · 27/02/2019 13:44

People saying removing all hair increases sensitivity as in nice sensations are deluding themselves.

That's very condescending. So the only part of your body where you experience pleasurable sensations is your clitoris, then? How sad for you.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 13:45

themoomoo, Everybody's different but I've had this done for years now and any re-growth is really slow. I tend to have it done every 4-6 weeks. Same as a hairdressing appointment really, just a bit different.

Jinglejanglefish · 27/02/2019 13:58

For goodness sake, these threads always go the same way. If you see a thread title which is clearly asking ‘what to expect from a wax’ and you’ve never had one and are against other women getting it done, why even open the thread?

I think starting with bikini and working up to it is a good decision op, the first time is awful. I’ve been getting waxed for years and barely notice it anymore. I now get an extended bikini wax, which is in between bikini and Brazilian, and I only need to go about once every three months.

Nesssie · 27/02/2019 14:10

lizzie1970a My self esteem is just fine thanks. I waxed when I was single and I wax when I'm in a relationship. People find different things sexy, tattoos, piercings, hairstyles, body hair, makeup style etc. Personally, I find a nicely groomed pubic area is sexy. Nothing to do with men.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 27/02/2019 14:16

Never had a Hollywood as I shave mine but my god an underarm wax had got to be the most painful thing barring childbirth!

themoomoo · 27/02/2019 14:39

lyinwitch but how long does it stay smooth for? I don't get why it's not stubbly after a few days

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:40

That's interesting, Sauvingnon, for me, knees and outside thighs are the most painful.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:42

themoomoo because the hair is pulled out at the roots. This damages the root and eventually makes re-growth much slower or stop. Even with a first go though, you can expect to stay hair-free for 2-3 weeks - and when it does grow back, it's not stubbly like it would be with a shave as shaving just takes off the hair above the surface, blunting the hair which makes it stubbly and rough to feel when it grows.

themoomoo · 27/02/2019 14:44

ah right, OK. So eventually does it stop growing completely?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:45

Also - I think your individual hair type is a factor too. Some hair is wiry, some is dark. Mine is fine and blonde, always has been.

Apparently, the 'no-no' gadget is only really effective on dark hair as the laser light can 'read it', it can't read fair hairs very well. I was astonished to learn that.

I quite like waxing though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:46

themoomoo, Um. Yes and no. I still have hair but not much. Some hair growth though has stopped completely and permanently.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 27/02/2019 14:48

@lyinwitch I felt like slapping the beautcian 🤣

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:50

For any posters concerned about pain, other than the Ibuprofen already suggested, there's a gel that some people use when they have tattoos, comes in a tiny little bottle and it numbs the surface - Ametop 40mg, is in a 1.5g bottle, costs about £2, over the counter from pharmacies. There might be other numbing potions available.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 14:53

I know what you mean, Sauvingnon, I had to keep reminding myself that I'd elected to be there, like a mantra.

I wouldn't go just before a period again though, that is definitely more painful for me than at any other time.

I can remember one painful underarm wax though thinking of it, the beautician said that it must been very dry. She routinely recommends exfoliating with a mitt and then moisturising before a wax. Must have missed that bit.

Waveysnail · 27/02/2019 14:55

Good ones. Minimal pain and no bruising. I use sudocream that night with just loose pj bottoms. I exfoliate with flannel, bit of tea tree oil mix with carrier oil each day as prone to ingrown hairs and that stops them

Ringdonna · 27/02/2019 15:28

I am a great fan, so much better for oral and rimming.

daisyjgrey · 27/02/2019 15:34

Who books a bikini wax without knowing what they've booked?!

Nesssie · 27/02/2019 15:39

daisyjgrey I'm sure she knows that its waxing of pubic hair but she just wants some more info from people that have experienced it, pain levels, clothes, what to expect etc.

JacquesHammer · 27/02/2019 15:53

and those utterly creepy posters (I assume that they're women, sadly) who ponder why "women want to look like children...?". Urgh. That says a huge amount about you. Nobody else, just you and what a strange person you must be

Totally agree. I often wonder how much they actually struggle with life given they think the only difference between a child and an adult is pubic hair. I also wonder how many of them shave their armpits and legs making those areas more, you know, “childlike” by their warped logic.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 16:07

Jacques, quite possibly. Or maybe something even more sinister? They make me cringe though. Each one thinking that they're relevant when really, they're quite suspect.

I have no time for hypocrites either. Remove your hair, don't remove your hair. I don't mind what anybody does with their own bodies. But don't tell me what to do with mine nor insinuate that 'just doing my legs because they're visible' is any kind of feminism.

To me, feminism is fighting for the rights of women, not fighting with them over nonsensical issues that will just ensure a pointless (but admittedly entertaining), row. I imagine Emily Davison would be tutting and thinking, "WTF did I throw myself under a horse for if this is the most pressing issue?".

In my view, we don't achieve much by railing at each other over things that a) are not our business and b) we have no power of veto over anyway.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/02/2019 16:09

I meant, 'just doing my legs because they're visible' is in any way more laudable then 'hair off everywhere', just because they're doing it.

Hair on/hair off - all fine. Live and let live :)

HelenaDove · 27/02/2019 16:42

Not for me personally but your body your choice.

LyingWitch Thanks for the info about the no no gadget. As a brunette this might work on my chin hair.

Was thinking about buying the JML Flawless but as of Monday night they were out of stock.

Not interested in doing anything to my pubic region. It would be for my chin hair.
