To be massively irritated at new lodger

Hi all
Sat fuming at the moment.

6 weeks ago I got a lodger short term for three months.

All was fine until Friday when she told me by text that her friend was coming to stay for the weekend bringing her 8 year old daughter

Got text Friday evening, by the time I arrived home they were here. Took them 4 hours by coach so not like they live near by.

However I think you have to ask and 2 extra people here all weekend not very relaxing.

Going to.have words with lodger when they have gone tomorrow but seriously who does this?

Massive over reach on part of lodger i think particularly as they are sleeping in lounge

Notice time, as next you'll end up with boyfriends that never seem to go home.

I agree I wouldn't want to walk into that after a full week at work either but we're stipulations for guests laid out at the beginning of this agreement?

I have too many questions, so I'm just going to suggest you watch something wildly inappropriate for an eight year old in the lounge, and if they retreat to the kitchen, join them to say you can't FUCKING believe what's happening in the show.

Um ... guests stay in their room, not the lounge. That's shared space. And not ok to do without prior agreement, not just spring it on you. If it's only another 6 weeks I guess you just ask for a week's notice of guests and that they sleep in lodger's room.

No way!
Talk to her when they’ve gone and make it very clear if she ever does anything like this again she is out on her arse!

6 weeks isn't long so I will have a word about not being repeated and then suck it up

No. Sleeping in the lounge does not work for you. They can stay in the lodgers room. Hold your boundaries op.

Could be worse, I had a lodger come home drunk once and sh*t all over the bathroom. Literally diorhrea everywhere. Next morning she is sat on my sofa going 'oh well, guess it happens to everyone'. Crazy cow xD.

Yes I have an agreement and occasional.guests are fine with notice , what has been annoying is having it sprung on.me at short notice that her friend and a child are both coming all weekend

I will wait till they have gone then have a chat , not the kids fault but her mum and my lodger are both CFs in my opinion

I'd be cross too OP. Its kind of you to hold off about confronting your lodger if you can. Ultimately it will make the 8 year old very uncomfortable and whoever is at fault, its not her.

I agree though that it would be better if they slept in the lodgers room

I don't think there is anything wrong with the guests. They just need to stay in the lodgers room. They can't take over your lounge. Tell her that you won't be tripping over them tonight or in the morning.

You need to pull her up sharply. Tell her she'll have to stump up ££ for their weekend stay, as she's effectively taken over another room in the house for them without permission, and that such a thing will never, ever happen again or she's out on the day.

I have a lodger and I’d hit the fucking roof if she did this. Im pretty laid back and I’m happy/ just don’t care about overnight visitors and I really don’t need notice her boyfriend is staying or her best mate is crashing on her floor after a night out but people staying in the lounge is not on.

Contracts with lodgers aren’t like ASTs you can just get rid

Have a chat about about what is reasonable notice. Also, guests stay in her room not the lounge.

Guests absolutely need to stay in her room tonight, and if she hasn't got the airbeds etc (I presume they would be on sofas/sofabeds?) She'll need to sort that too, don't lose the cushions from your sofa!

I'd be charitable and assume she forgot/didn't fully understand. If you sort it out friendly but firmly tonight there shouldn't be any further problems.

I think it's the lack of notice that woujd annoy me, and the presumption. Staying in the lounge in principle isn't terrible. It's often the only practical solution,and while a bit of a pain okay for an occasional thing.
