To miss uni today because of the cold?

I just can't face the drive. It's an hour plus and the heating isn't working in my car. Even with a hat coat and gloves (and a blanket over my lap) I was freezing by the time I got there yesterday.

Car is booked in for Monday and should be fixed. It's currently -7 and I just want to cry thinking about it.

To miss uni today because of the cold?

Oh and public transport isn't an option ( for many reasons I don't want to go into now)

I would go.

Ohnonotuagain · 31/01/2019 07:22

I think it depends on what point you're at with uni, if it's something you can get lecture slides on and catch up on in your spare time.

JollyGiraffe · 31/01/2019 07:23

YABVU, get another blanket and get on with it!

CustardCreamLover · 31/01/2019 07:23

I wouldn't but I was a slacker 😁

IStillMissBlockbuster · 31/01/2019 07:23

Hot water bottle? Not drink? Education is important. I'd make every effort to get there, after all the teacher is, right?

IStillMissBlockbuster · 31/01/2019 07:24

Hot drink*

DailyMailWankers · 31/01/2019 07:24

YANBU. Surely you can't concentrate enough to drive safely if you're that cold. Stay home and read your notes in the warm Brew

EZA15 · 31/01/2019 07:24

If you don’t miss it often I wouldn’t go. Missing one class won’t kill you. Have you got anyone that can lend you their notes / tell you what you’ve missed?

Hefzi · 31/01/2019 07:24

If you would accept this as an excuse from your lecturer for not showing up to teach, why not?

Gynaegirl · 31/01/2019 07:24

What are you studying at uni'? I hope it's not a medical degree or another profession allied to medicine.

BedraggledBlitz · 31/01/2019 07:25

I would give it a miss. Do some reading at home instead. Send apology to relevant people.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 31/01/2019 07:25

It really is an educational moment...

Would you miss a day of work just because it’s cold outside?

That should be enough to answer your question!

YessicaHaircut · 31/01/2019 07:26

I wouldn’t. It’s really icy today and the drive will be horrible. Email your lecturer to apologise and request the slides/reading list so you can catch up.

BiscuitDrama · 31/01/2019 07:26

If the heating in your car is broken then I think that’s fair enough. Have you fiddled around with it to try and get it working?

QuestionableMouse · 31/01/2019 07:26

It's the first week back do just introductory stuff for the modules. The lectures are also posted online.

I want to go but I get so cold I start to feel really ill. Damn car.

Shantotto · 31/01/2019 07:26

I wouldn’t go. You’ve got car trouble it’s fine! Just stay warm at home.

SallyWD · 31/01/2019 07:27

Surely it's fine to miss one day?!

EjectorCrab · 31/01/2019 07:28

I would go. Pop on some layers, a hat, gloves and make up a hot water bottle, you’ll be warm enough in no time.

JurassicGirl · 31/01/2019 07:28

My old car heating worked but not for ages until the car had properly warmed up so I took a hot water bottle & it was great.

If you decide to go at least it might help.

Also hot drink in a travel mug!

Lweji · 31/01/2019 07:28

One hour in freezing cold with no heating? I'd think it's too dangerous, particularly because you're basically sitting still.

QuestionableMouse · 31/01/2019 07:28

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend no I wouldn't but it's not the same because work is ten minutes away rather than an hour plus.

donajimena · 31/01/2019 07:30

Just don't go. You know the type of student you are if I miss a lecture (which is rare) I diligently watch it later.

QuestionableMouse · 31/01/2019 07:30

@EjectorCrab I did that yesterday (when it was warmer) and was still freezing by the time I got there. Not sure why but the cold is really bothering me right now.

I’m not going into Uni today. I have 5 lectures. But I’ve had an IBS flare up since Tuesday and whilst it has settled a lot, it’s still not quite good enough for me to take the risk of the 2 bus 1 hour commute plus dashing out of a packed lecture threatre. I’ve gone with raging ear infections and all sorts of other stuff but I won’t risk publicly shitting myself. Blush

I’ve been told I’m being U for not going today by a few friends but none of them have IBS so they can fuck off tbh.
