DH is in love with the name Bo for a boy. Thing is I personally do not like the other spelling of Beau but have concerns about Bo - can hear kids teasing calling B.O etc. I do like the name though. Would you go ahead with the Bo spelling or are there any other suggestions please?

I know someone with a little boy called Bohen (Bo for short).

In these parts Bo = girl. Beau = boy.

I know of 4 Bo’s (female) and just one Beau (male).

Imagine when they learn 'Little Bo Peep' - the ragging he will get! Does he mean perhaps Beau?

Maybe use as a middle name, personally think Beau does look a lot better.

Bo does have a family connection for us but we don't feel obliged to use it but do like it. DH is American and Bo Is also the male spelling of the name there

I know of a few Beaus, mostly boys, but one girl. I was quite surprised the first time I heard it but I suppose it's one more name that will have a brief fashion and then be ditched.

Have no idea if any of them spell it Bo, which is pretty meaningless tbh as it isn't an alternative spelling to Beau.

Bo is a stand-alone name in Sweden. Not so unusual there. I agree in the UK it seems like a diminutive though.

I love Beau and have met 3 boys named Beau and 1 girl named Bo. Go with what you like, mumsnet is funny and snobby about names.

Bo is usually the female spelling. I don’t like the name spelled any way - it just sounds like you’ve called your child ‘Bow’. I guess if you had another you could call them ‘Arrow’ though 😂
I would also worry about the B.O. thing though I guess kids could find a way to pick on most names if they were so inclined.
‘Bowen’ would only ever make me think of Jim Bowen from Bullseye.
