DH is in love with the name Bo for a boy. Thing is I personally do not like the other spelling of Beau but have concerns about Bo - can hear kids teasing calling B.O etc. I do like the name though. Would you go ahead with the Bo spelling or are there any other suggestions please?

I think it's terrible, sorry

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2019 16:15

Wonder if Bonar Law ever got called Bo by his mates? Didn't seem to hold him back in life anyway.

Littlechocola · 23/01/2019 16:23

I really like it. If you like it use it.
People will always have something not so nice to say (even if you call him Peter) you can’t win.

emilybrontescorsett · 23/01/2019 16:34

It's growing on me. There's nothing wrong with it and I think it could be quite a cool type of name.

Shednik · 23/01/2019 16:36

I knew a female Bo. I don’t think it’s a boy’s name.

Excited101 · 23/01/2019 16:40

I know a ‘Boe’ (girl) I think it’s awful

IlluminatiParty · 23/01/2019 16:43

Short for Bojak? It would need to be Beau otherwise it's more of a pet or cartoonish name. Never come across a Bo male or female. I've heard worse names!

Clawdy · 23/01/2019 16:55

TinklyLittleLaugh my first thought was Bo Diddley too!

BeanTownNancy · 23/01/2019 22:57

@mumtobabygilrl
Are you a geek? Boromir would be an excellent name IMO. Wink

Our baby is due on May the 4th so I'm currently trying to reach a compromise with DH on a Star Wars name which is not "Kylo Ren" which is his first choice. 😂

Bo Burnham is very funny. I like him. :)

AliTheMinx · 23/01/2019 23:04

I like Beau but really not keen on Bo...

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/01/2019 23:10

I'm reminded of the Dukes of Hazard. Just saying...

FevertreeLight · 23/01/2019 23:14

No one here ever heard of Bo Diddley who basically invented rock and roll?

Called elias- bo was a nickname

Ellas Otha Bates

Villainess · 23/01/2019 23:17

There was Beau Geste too. He was full of derring-do and ran off and joined the Foreign Legion or something.

doritad · 23/01/2019 23:20

Beauregard is cool. (Jim) Bowen is not 🎯.

StoneofDestiny · 23/01/2019 23:23

Wonder if Bonaparte ever got called 'Bo'?

Villainess · 23/01/2019 23:24

Bonaparte and Josephine were Bo 'n' Jo to their pals.

miyajima90 · 23/01/2019 23:25

All those saying Beau is a ridiculous name need to get out more. Beau has been around loads over the last few years. It is also an old fashioned regency name (Beau Nash, Beau Brummell) so the OP doesn't deserve such derision for considering it, regardless of personal taste.

I prefer the original spelling of Beau, OP.

Notso · 23/01/2019 23:35

DH really wanted Bo for our DC. It's one of the only names he suggested for all four pregnancies. He was overjoyed when he learned there had been one in my family (Great Great Grandparents were Swedish).
It sounds dreadful with our surname though.

SaturdayNext · 23/01/2019 23:43

Just don't. It would be utterly ridiculous.

80sMum · 23/01/2019 23:46

I know a child called Bo: she's a girl. It's a rather odd name to be lumbered with, I think.

cdtaylornats · 23/01/2019 23:48

Bo Diddley
Bo Duke

There are hundreds of Scandinavians and Americans of Scandinavian descent called Bo.

Faultymain5 · 23/01/2019 23:56

I used to watch Days of Our Lives, Beau had a long tumultous love with Hope. I loved both names, but DH vetoed Hope. It got ridiculous when both actors left and new actors played the same roles. Oh hum.

I don't know the answer to your dilemma, but i don't feel bad I didn't get the name I originally wanted. Maybe try a different name, if you really don't want it.

MamaBear2181 · 23/01/2019 23:58

Bowie if you’re a fan of David Bowie, then he’s named after a super cool guy and you can legit shorten it to Bo?

steff13 · 24/01/2019 00:01

I can only think of 3 'Bos'. Bo Jackson (first name Vincent), Bo Burnham (Robert), and BoJack Horseman (cartoon).

I was going to say Bo Duke from Dukes of Hazzard, but Wikipedia tells me his name was Beauregard.
