DH is in love with the name Bo for a boy. Thing is I personally do not like the other spelling of Beau but have concerns about Bo - can hear kids teasing calling B.O etc. I do like the name though. Would you go ahead with the Bo spelling or are there any other suggestions please?

Thankyou to those who have provided helpful comments and feedback. Really is much appreciated

Some of you are probably the school ground bullies I was thinking of in the OP. Seriously people...

I always think of Pierre-Gustave Beauregard - American Civil War general (Confederate Army).

blackteasplease · 23/01/2019 14:01

Borowis is nice- never heard that before!

elQuintoConyo · 23/01/2019 14:03

Is your surname Wow-Wow? And will you give the child the middle name Chika?

Butterfly84 · 23/01/2019 14:09

Beau is nice, but not Bo!

morningconstitutional2017 · 23/01/2019 14:09

I used to work with a woman called Bo and it raised eyebrows every single time she had to introduce herself. I'd choose something different.

Birdsgottafly · 23/01/2019 14:10

Would your DH suit the name, or your Dad/Brother/Uncle?

I know it's supposed to be about personalities, but some names suit some physical appearances, more than others.

I think it should be short for something, or give a more usual middle name, so it's easy to drop.

I've did that with my Girls (all Adults), but they love their, less common, names.

rebelrosie12 · 23/01/2019 14:12

I know a bit beau and everyone loves him...very popular little boy. Would only spell it that way though.

Loftyswops988 · 23/01/2019 14:17

My grandad is called Bo. Could you call Bodhi and shorten?

haloumi · 23/01/2019 14:30

Yes! ... Call him Bo ...

We need more names in the pool..... there have already been cases on here of people using names that OTHER people have already selected ...

BO is a cool name! ....

Marmaladehandbag · 23/01/2019 14:30

Have a son called Bodhi and even though I said I wouldn't, I do call him Bo for short. Nobody else does though.

QuarterMileAtATime · 23/01/2019 14:32

There were two boys called Bo in my class when I lived in the US as a child in the early 90s, but no I wouldn’t use it.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 23/01/2019 14:42

Not a bully, but was bullied so I always think carefully with names.

Bo will have the piss ripped out of him and probably get showered in lynx Africa in PE

Sorry for being harsh nut if you've thought about it so will the bullies

Fucket · 23/01/2019 14:46

There is a Beau (boy) and Bo (girl) in my children’s infant school so clearly both names are popular at the moment.

Dongdingdong · 23/01/2019 14:48

Seleeeecta!

Sorry OP - couldn't resist...

BiggFactHunt · 23/01/2019 14:54

My Swedish friend’s daughter is Bo and another friend’s husband is Beau.
I really like it.
But if you want a longer name.....
Bolonz?

BiggFactHunt · 23/01/2019 14:55

Bolonz, bloody phone

SpringForEver · 23/01/2019 14:55

I immediately thought of Bo Derek, the actress in 10.

Then Bo Diddley.

It is not a name that I could take seriously. Neither is Beau.

JenniferJareau · 23/01/2019 15:10

Bo is not a name.

It is. The one I know is American but is not an uncommon name there I believe.

winterhappiness · 23/01/2019 15:26

Bo Burnham is a great comedian / very talented!

I love Bo Grin go for it!

DorisDances · 23/01/2019 15:31

I would consider Bowen with Bo as the nickname

LuckyLou7 · 23/01/2019 15:48

There's nothing wrong with the name you have chosen, nor the way you have chosen to spell it. He's your son, call him what you are happy with. I doubt very much if it will be an issue when he goes to school. Kids get bullied for lots of different reasons, but the majority of children accept each other regardless. There's a horribly snobbish attitude on here towards names that are slightly different.

mumtobabygilrl · 23/01/2019 15:52

@LuckyLou7 Thankyou

Beauvoir is pronounced Beaver. 🤨 you better let Simone know...

As others have said, naming a girl Beau makes as much sense as naming a boy Belle - ie none.

I’ve got no problem with Bo. Of course he can be prime minister, Noble laureate or whatever with that name.

But if Nobel prize availability is the number one concern, I suggest Polycarp, Adolf, Willard, Melvin or Anatole - all of them have won in the past, so you can’t go wrong with these.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/01/2019 16:08

I think it's quite cool. No one here ever heard of Bo Diddley who basically invented rock and roll?
