DH is in love with the name Bo for a boy. Thing is I personally do not like the other spelling of Beau but have concerns about Bo - can hear kids teasing calling B.O etc. I do like the name though. Would you go ahead with the Bo spelling or are there any other suggestions please?

OP posts:
adreamofspring · 23/01/2019 13:32

Spell it beau as others have said, otherwise I just think of B.O

Believability · 23/01/2019 13:33

My teen who should know better has a friend called Bo and still finds it’s utterly hysterical that it’s spelt B.O as in body odour.

hellsbellsmelons · 23/01/2019 13:34

I don't like it either - sorry.
Just thinking of it in a professional capacity when he is older.
But I like some of the suggestions.
Bodie is floating my boat (reminisces about The Professionals.... ahh the good ole days)

RomanyRoots · 23/01/2019 13:37

I've met several girls called Beau, but never a boy, it's a girls name, surely?
Anyway BO is not a name it's 2 letters put together.
Make a list, narrow it down and choose a name together.
Dh is American, you aren't and it does sound a bit naff, I'd be scared of people making smelly suggestions to him.

Pinkbells · 23/01/2019 13:39

I know a male (grown up) called and spelt Bo. It hadn't ever occurred to me to think of B.O.

Pinkbells · 23/01/2019 13:41

Bo is not a name.
Any title by which a person is known is a name.

Thistles24 · 23/01/2019 13:43

Not keen on it spelt that way. It’s also Gaelic for “cow” though unless you’re in the Scottish Highlands & Islands that’s unlikely to be an issue.

grumiosmum · 23/01/2019 13:43

lottiegarbanzo I was thinking of De Beauvoir Town in Hackney, which is definitely pronounced Beaver - I have friends who live there.

It's also known as Beavertown.

cardoon · 23/01/2019 13:43

I know a BO (Borowis), good strong name, I like it and have also never thought B.O.

dinkystinky · 23/01/2019 13:44

Please dont name your son Bo.

Tara336 · 23/01/2019 13:44

@Threewheeler1 @MumMumMum1 ours too!

lottiegarbanzo · 23/01/2019 13:45

I must admit I though B.O. was a really old-fashioned term that younger people probably wouldn't use any more. (I think of it as a pre-good deoderant and daily showers phenomenon too, though am sure not entirely). Interesting it's still used.

MrsWillGardner · 23/01/2019 13:46

@norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet

Selecta...

😂😂

snowball28 · 23/01/2019 13:46

I would have it as a middle or nickname.

Really not keen for first name, sorry!

lottiegarbanzo · 23/01/2019 13:48

Interesting grumiosmum it does look more like beaver than does belvoir. Maybe people just like saying beaver.

SilverySurfer · 23/01/2019 13:50

Tell your DH to change his name to Bo if he likes it so much and then give your son a proper name.

jessstan2 · 23/01/2019 13:50

No.
Possibly Beau for a boy, if you must, but not Bo.
Blade is quite nice.

MrsWillGardner · 23/01/2019 13:50

This is the only Bow I know...

My little one is called Beauden. He gets called Beaudy, Beau beau, etc for short. I was worried about the name when we came across it, but it really suits him and I couldn't imagine him being called anything different now Smile

Crinklesmile · 23/01/2019 13:51

My cousin is Beaudeen, and called Beau. Female. I really love it

haverhill · 23/01/2019 13:51

Bowie?
I would avoid Bo. B.O. Kids can be cruel.

Jux · 23/01/2019 13:53

I've only ever met one Bo. Female, American. PITA.

'Beau' (male) has an illustrious past in this country. Is your surname Brummel perchance?

TheVanguardSix · 23/01/2019 13:53

We considered Bo for DC1, born in the States, nearly 17 years ago!

We didn’t go with it but honestly, Bo’s great. There’s a 9 year old Beau at the school I work in. Whether you go with Bo or Beau, honestly, in real life, it’ll be absolutely fine! The names that get reduced to roadkill on MN threads like this, don’t even bat an eye among school kids or parents.

JacquesHammer · 23/01/2019 13:54

Sadly only as a nickname for the gorgeous Mr Brummel Grin

MILHouse · 23/01/2019 13:54

DS’s best friend is called Bo. Nobody has ever thought twice about it. I like it.
