A lot of the posters who were bothered by the "just inside acceptable" comments and the cried of "Handmaiden!" and "You've drunk the Kool-aid! on the Feminism board have hidden it.

A post about this a while ago where posters were thrilled to find that they could block that board was quickly filled with people demanding to know why, shouting "Handmaiden!" and demanding specific examples to justify why people didn't want to see more of the exact posts they were posting.

There was then a flurry of "Trans" posts in AIBU and Chat, presumably because the ones on Feminism have become somewhat of an echo chamber. I'm assuming this one is another one of those.

PengAly · 07/12/2018 15:14

OOoh so its ok to make mass assumptions on a whole group of people based on the actions by a few...hmmm I do wonder what THAT sounds like?!

RoboticMary · 07/12/2018 15:14

It’s laughable that those who consider themselves liberal and liberated consistently try to shut down debate, or silence opinions they don’t agree with.

Allaboutmeandyou · 07/12/2018 15:16

I left mumsnet because of the hate that was coming out of these types of threads and others. I found it refreshing to return back and not read that same bollocks until now.

papayasareyum · 07/12/2018 15:17

a woman is an adult human female and doesn’t have a penis. Is that a transphobic statement? I’ve asked before, but nobody will reply!

Allaboutmeandyou · 07/12/2018 15:17

Sorry are you someone important who I should converse with. Whats your status in society. What do you bring to the table.

feelingverylazytoday · 07/12/2018 15:18

PengAly I think you need to take that up with Stonewall, to be honest. They're the ones who decided to include cross dressers, autogynephiles, and the Karen Whites of this world under the transgender umbrella, not Mumsnet members.

Hidingtonothing · 07/12/2018 15:18

I've never seen anyone say men should stay men, or that gender dysphoria isn't real, just that women's rights should not be trampled all over to accommodate trans people. It's interesting that the vast majority of GC feminists acknowledge the reasons trans women don't feel safe using men's facilities and support third spaces for trans people and yet the trans activists are insistent they want access to women's spaces and refuse to acknowledge that this has the capacity to compromise women's safety because it will be abused by men. Men who do not suffer with gender dysphoria but will see self ID as a golden ticket to women's spaces. They exist, much as I'm sure we all wish they didn't, and it's little wonder that women are pushing back against something which will make it so much easier for them.

RoboticMary · 07/12/2018 15:19

A differering opinion is not hate. I’m not transphobic and I don’t hate trans people. I wish no ill on anyone in the world. I simply take issue with the idea that you can change your sex, because you physically, biologically can’t.

MissSusanScreams · 07/12/2018 15:19

Is saw a great reply on Twitter to the usual argument of ‘you our deny our right to exist’.

No one says you don’t exist or can’t express yourself as you are doing. And no one is saying all trans people are predators. Just as no one is saying all Catholic priests are predators. But in much the same vein the trans rights movement does itself no favours by harbouring and protecting known rapists, sex offenders and child molesters and not calling bullshit on them because they are a member of the group.

It is obvious that dangerous men are using the veil of transness to attempt to hide themselves and their misdeeds. This needs to be called out and stopped for the sake of everyone.

Being trans seems to have somehow become being blameless for any action no matter how heinous, including- assaulting women, being a rape apologist and being homophobic.

Allaboutmeandyou · 07/12/2018 15:19

papayasareyum you need a better argument than that. Surgery has come a long way.

PengAly · 07/12/2018 15:20

I cant read anymore of peoples discriminatory posts on here. Hiding the thread for my own blood pressure- what a sad world we live in that prejudice like this still unfairly exists.

BarbarianMum · 07/12/2018 15:21

How about you define "woman" for us allabout?

papayasareyum · 07/12/2018 15:21

surgery doesn’t change biology or chromosomes. A neovagina isn’t a vagina, it’s an open wound which has to be dilated daily or it closes.

Auntiepatricia · 07/12/2018 15:22

Trans people are not responsible for the behaviour of criminals pretending to be trans people or trans people who are criminals. They do not have to apologise for them or excuse them or have anything to do with such people. It’s not YOUR right to demand they take responsibility for the actions of other people.

RoboticMary · 07/12/2018 15:22

@Allaboutmeandyou
About the same as me, I imagine. I don’t suppose you’re anyone special. You don’t like my opinions? Thats fine! But I’m not encouraging others to report your posts because I disagree with them.

ADastardlyThing · 07/12/2018 15:22

Robotic Mary???

Peng that's great news, transphobia has no place on mn so I'm sure they will be deleted quickly.

Allaboutmeandyou · 07/12/2018 15:22

Hidingtonothing leave your computer screen and go to parliament if you feel so strongly about it. People don't respond to hate online.

williteverend99 · 07/12/2018 15:23

“Transphobia” = any thought or comment which does not unquestioningly accept prevailing trans ideology.
Mumsnet = forum representing a wide range of opinion on trans issues.
Therefore Mumsnet IS transphobic.

Ideology can only exist inside its own closed system.

Hidingtonothing · 07/12/2018 15:24

Who exactly am I hating other than pervy, abusive men? I want trans people to be safe and able to go about their business, I just want the same for women too.

papayasareyum · 07/12/2018 15:25

absolutely willit and it’s interesting how many people are unfollowing and hiding forums. It’s almost as though they don’t want to hear the other argument or even acknowledge that there is another side to the discussion except loud demands from trans activists.

FourRustedHorses · 07/12/2018 15:25

It makes me think feminism has lost its way.

Feminism lost its way the very second it centred PENIS.

I don't deal in make believe and unicorns.

ravenmum · 07/12/2018 15:26

Yes, YABU. Mild surprise would be the appropriate response, at Vice magazine, at Mumsnet or at both.

BruegeITheEIder · 07/12/2018 15:26

These threads always go the same way. Everybody claims that because many people have legitimate concerns and discuss them rationally, there is no transphobia on mumsnet!

It's a bit like saying the Stormfront forums aren't a hotbed of racism because some members are genuinely concerned about the housing crisis and try to discuss it without prejudice.

BarbarianMum · 07/12/2018 15:26

If trans people are defining themselves as "anyone who says they're a woman is" and attacking those who question this and demanding access to womens only spaces then they are absolutely responsible for what happens as a result.
