Peng there is a difference between 'being treated as if they are women' (where reasonable) and saying they 'literally are women'.

rightreckoner · 07/12/2018 15:01

I am massively transphobic because I don't think women have penises.

I really must jump in the sea or in the bin or whatever it is that transphobes should do.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/12/2018 15:02

There are some awful comments on here. But then I think mumsnet is a shit place for feminism anyway.

PengAly · 07/12/2018 15:03

I don’t care about your feelings, I care about facts.

Oooh ok so people should suffer seriously with their mental health and possibly become suicidal because you're uncomfortable? Hmm

RoboticMary · 07/12/2018 15:04

I’m not uncomfortable. Where did I say I was? Like I said - do whatever the hell you want. Live as a man. Live as a woman. But you can’t change sex. That’s just biology, and I didn’t invent it.

BarbarianMum · 07/12/2018 15:04

Well thats problematic isnt it Peng. Firstly because men can't actually become women, only present as one. And also because there is research to show that presenting as the opposite sex doesnt actually leave many trans people either more mentally healthy or happier. Gender dysphoria is certainly real but not all trans people suffer from it and its not really clear how best it should be treated. None of which explains why its ok for women to be marginalised and endangered in order to make trans women feel better btw.

icannotremember · 07/12/2018 15:05

I'm surprised you're surprised, tbh.

LegoAdventCalendar · 07/12/2018 15:05

the amount of negative assumptions i see on here about trans people is concerning. Id love to see mumsnet get a more modern opinion but sadly i doubt that will happen.

Nope, I for one believes that a woman is an adult human female and object to penises in female spaces.

Bittermints · 07/12/2018 15:05

3WildOnes, no, the vast majority of the population don't agree on that. Here are the results of a professionally conducted opinion poll that shows quite the reverse. fairplayforwomen.com/poll/#a2

These discussions never get very far. 'Transphobia' is thrown around but never defined. Examples are requested and never provided. It's almost as if people just want others to shut up for fear of being labelled bigots.

roarfeckingroar · 07/12/2018 15:06

Will someone PLEASE define:
a) woman
b) why it is transphobic to not want to end single SEX spaces?

stayathomer · 07/12/2018 15:08

I'll be honest I'm not very knowledgeable about any of it but I have jumped off reading some of the trans threads because I think they can be very judgemental and mean

feelingverylazytoday · 07/12/2018 15:08

I'm not shocked or bothered. It's their opinion. I don't read Vice, and there's nothing in that article that's going to change that. If you don't like Mumsnet then find another forum that suits better.

icannotremember · 07/12/2018 15:08

This thread is already a wonderful example of why Mumsnet is regarded as a hotbed of transphobia. Hiding it for the good of my blood pressure!

PengAly · 07/12/2018 15:09

How can so many people make the assumption that women will be marginalised and endangered because of trans people being about? That's disgusting to have that kind of mind set. How is that any different to people saying men should not teach kids (for safety), or gay people are "unnatural". We are in 2018 and the fact this attitude still exist on mumsnet is shocking!

ADastardlyThing · 07/12/2018 15:10

Icannot please report the transphobic posts.

3WildOnes · 07/12/2018 15:11

Bittermints can you tell me more about how this survey was conducted?

Nancydrawn · 07/12/2018 15:11

Unshocked, as it is.

BarbarianMum · 07/12/2018 15:11

Oh, oh I know the answer to that one Peng : because it's already happening. Witness womens sports, transwomen sexually assaulting women in prison etc

RoboticMary · 07/12/2018 15:11

@ADastardlyThing
Which ones? The one you don’t agree with, you mean?

Allaboutmeandyou · 07/12/2018 15:11

Wouldn't lose much sleep over a writer just trying to be one of the cool kids and only writing about one side of a two sided debate.

You do realise you're fucking about with other people and who they choose to be. How can you debate about someone else's choice that sounds mad.

RiverTam · 07/12/2018 15:12

Peng sports is the most obvious example, so obvious I'm surprised you need it pointing out to you.

Lynne45 · 07/12/2018 15:12

“This thread is already a wonderful example of why Mumsnet is regarded as a hotbed of transphobia. Hiding it for the good of my blood pressure!”

This.

WineAndNoodles · 07/12/2018 15:12

It is.

The more people who stay here regardless, the better. Otherwise it would be so much worse 🙄

PengAly · 07/12/2018 15:12

@ADastardlyThing I've started reporting the transphobic posts on this thread

ludog · 07/12/2018 15:13

Any disagreement (however logical it may appear) with trans ideology is considered transphobic. If everything is transphobic then nothing is transphobic.
