thinking about not doing stockings? dc are 24, 21 and 19,

i am just so busy working
they are a palavar, and not really wanted.

i know i will though, but aIbu to think about not doing them.

feeling guilty for not buying advent calenders fgs

Don't feel guilty Op, just tell them that you are stopping this year as they are too old for stockings from Father Christmas.

Your OP made me laugh, I guess because they are all adults. But, I still do them for my grown children and will probably continue for as long as they come home for Xmas! Just make them smaller if you can’t be arsed. Everyone loves a stocking!

As the youngest of 4 I always felt I got ripped off a bit with this kind of thing. For instance, the whole big pile of pressies stopped when I was about 14 and my eldest sister 24....but she'd had 10 more years of that than I bloody had!

Mine are a similar age. I asked them & they all agreed that I wouldn't do stockings. I just don't have time, and anyway they'd all rather have a few things they really want & no plastic tat, so that's what we are doing this year.

I felt guilty about no advent calendars too, until DC3 said to me 'It's OK, mum, I'm 21 not 12' Grin

We are going to my mum's this year so I will be doing a sticking for my mum and dd and I suspect my mum will be doing one for me!

This is not every year though.

My DC all received their stockings for their first Christmas. DS1's stocking will be 24 years old this Christmas and is still going strong. He will be spending Christmas abroad but it will be there waiting for him when he gets back.

DP is late thirties and he still gets a stocking. As do I now I’m Pryor the family 😆

But I’m turn we do a stocking for MIL too, had loads of fun putting hers together this year.

Ask your dc if they want one, if not don’t bother but DP loves the tradition as does SIL.

Everyone loves to have a stocking here, adults and children, and I can't imagine that ever changing. Everyone has always had one, including any overnight guests.

The thing that stood out for me though, OP, was: and not really wanted. If that's really the case for each of them, then I think you should stop, and like a pp said, maybe it's their turn to do a stocking for you.

Sod's Law though if you do stop - they might realise they miss them!

Mine are 32 30 and 27. They love the stocking part of Christmas, their partners have one too. I buy them each a little gift every month, I spoke once about stopping and they didn't want me too, but they are also not filled with tat. One child has had a very hard year and has very little money, so socks, pants, face wipes, flannel, nice jam, biscuits, photo frame, chocolate, shampoo are all well received

Everyone gets a stocking! Last year all 4 generations together for Xmas had stockings. Imo, you are never too old for stockings - but they don't need to include plastic tat!
