It looks like rat. Please tell me it isn't rat?
I've eaten many a strange thing in my day (I have a weird job that often requires me to) but feel like rat would be a new low.

For context, I'm in Russia and was served it by a non English speaking Housekeeper who I suspect doesn't like me much.

it's rat isn't it?

I think it's pigeon or something. You can see where the feathers have been plucked.

HashtagTeamRaven · 17/11/2018 18:50

Will all the reference to dicks, ducks, badgers and Guinea pigs, I couldn't bring myself to lick it, weirdly.

I hid it under my cabbage and made "mmm" noises when she came back in, reminiscent of Monico eating Beef Trifle in friends.

I'll brave it and ask her tomorrow what it was.

Just asked my DH - long retired executive head chef - and he says from the photo it definitely appears to be a game bird of some type.

By the way, shame it wasn't guinea pig. Guinea pig is delicious! memories of Peru Smile

The meat was very dark if that helps, almost purple.

This was dessert: a safer bet from my freezer once I got back home after work.

That is the date the icecream was made, BTW. Everything is dated production date rather than use by

That's put me right off my KFC Grin

LittleMe03 · 17/11/2018 19:04

😮 I've no idea but to me does look like a Guinea pig with one back leg hidden underneath the body. When I cut my piggies nails their legs look exactly the same when stretch out 😑 and they tend to have chubby middles.

recraft · 17/11/2018 19:10

Production date is so much better than use by.

groundcontroltomontydon · 17/11/2018 19:15

Was it served with with some fava beans and a nice Chianti?Confused
I'd be Googling the phrase for 'vegetarian option' for future reference

Azelma · 17/11/2018 19:16

Yy to seeing a face!

notacooldad · 17/11/2018 19:21

In times like this there is something to be said for being a veggie!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/11/2018 19:22

Yes, do practice saying ‘Вететарианское меню, пожалуйста’

StoneofDestiny · 17/11/2018 19:26

I saw buckets of skinned rats for sale in Vietnam - but never saw them cooked (looks similar though)

Belle89 · 17/11/2018 19:28

The face your all seeing is the bum. Rubbery tail bit is the neck. Small bird I'd say

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 17/11/2018 19:32

Looks oh so appetising... 🙈😂

starsorwater · 17/11/2018 19:37

Pigeon. Very dark meat. We used to eat them when I was a child. I seem to remember liking them.

midsomermurderess · 17/11/2018 19:40

When the housekeeper came back in why didn't your Russian husband ask her what it is?

FrightsaidRed · 17/11/2018 19:46

The face is turning my stomach. That’s disgusting. Nope I wouldn’t eat it. Looks like a rat. I trust the mumsnetters who know better and believe it’s quail but all I can see is a face 🤢

mumto2babyboys · 17/11/2018 19:49

Tweet Gordon Ramsey. He replies about stuff like this

mumto2babyboys · 17/11/2018 19:52

Def Don't eat it and don't drink the tap water or open your mouth in the shower.

Russian water is full of rust from rusty pipes, hence the orange colour

Bimwit · 17/11/2018 19:54

Deffo bird, 100% - pigeon or quail, maybe partridge.

mumto2babyboys · 17/11/2018 19:54

And since when does poultry have a tail? Jeez

Even with parts
Removed that looks abnormal for poultry

Poultry have 2 legs not 4
