It looks like rat. Please tell me it isn't rat?
I've eaten many a strange thing in my day (I have a weird job that often requires me to) but feel like rat would be a new low.

For context, I'm in Russia and was served it by a non English speaking Housekeeper who I suspect doesn't like me much.

it's rat isn't it?

Poultry

AdaColeman · 17/11/2018 18:28

If she brings out the next course on a large platter, it will be badger.

everythingthelighttouches · 17/11/2018 18:29

First badger, now ratty. It'll be mole and toad next!

boomboo · 17/11/2018 18:29

Guinea pig Confused

tolerable · 17/11/2018 18:30

hahahahaha! best typo ever.(dick/duck)was feeling really hard done by for a moment.

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/11/2018 18:30

My first thought was quail too, and its delicious!

ButchyRestingFace · 17/11/2018 18:31

@everythingthelighttouches, I have just elsewhere been reliably informed that the badger was steamed, not grilled, as I previously thought.

Btw, I love your username.

Kizziebel · 17/11/2018 18:31

I've eaten rat (barbecued) and it looked nothing like that (and tasted good!)

Lovemusic33 · 17/11/2018 18:32

Pretty sure they don’t ear rodents in Russia, they eat a lot of game and fish, I’m guessing it’s quail, looks like you can see the pattern (little dots) where the feathers were, just like on a duck.
I would eat it 😁

skybluee · 17/11/2018 18:32

Um. For some reason it's making me a bit uneasy. Not sure why.

notsobumpy · 17/11/2018 18:33

100% quail. I’ve had it a few times.
As soon as I saw the photo I thought quail!

KateGrey · 17/11/2018 18:33

It has a face! I wouldn’t be eating that (especially if she doesn’t like you).

Skatersbeskating · 17/11/2018 18:34

Skip to Owl Ice Cream dessert.

MissWilmottsGhost · 17/11/2018 18:38

Just cut it, OP.

Ribs in the left half = rodent

Ribs in the right half = bird

I vote bird.

MissWilmottsGhost · 17/11/2018 18:39

Where the fuck is a 'face' Confused

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/11/2018 18:40

Not guinea-pig, they do them spatch cocked.

Google "Russian Herring" that'll be your next course >

WeeDangerousSpike · 17/11/2018 18:40

I'm voting quail or similar small bird with wings removed and legs cut shorter than normal.

Lick it. That's always my advice on "unidentified" MN items.

Let us know when you've licked it.

MissWilmottsGhost · 17/11/2018 18:43

Does it taste nice? That's all that matters

YoloThankfully · 17/11/2018 18:46

The face I see Grin

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 17/11/2018 18:47

I used to breed quail, and that's what it looks like to me. If so, it'll be bloody delicious!

YoloThankfully · 17/11/2018 18:47

It just looks like my pet rats face. I won't be cooking them to find out though I'm afraid

pinkmagic1 · 17/11/2018 18:48

It's 100 percent a small bird, most likely quail. Sometimes the wings are removed as they are so tiny and a total faff to pluck. They long tail like thing is its neck.
Eat it, it will be tasty.

bofsy1 · 17/11/2018 18:48

What did you order from menu?

Trethew · 17/11/2018 18:48

Definitely bird.

The curved bit at the top is the neck, and the two stumps at the bottom are thighs.

As a person who keeps pet rats I can promise you THIS IS NOT A RAT.
They are a completely different shape and there is virtually no flesh on them
