Im absolutely disgusted at this and it shows how far the stigma against social housing tenants has gone.

@Oliversmumsarmy that is fucking appalling. And i have been just as angry about the lack of support dv victims get.

it is possible to care about both.

In the vid someone said "this is what happens when you dont pay your rent"

that is a threat.

And there doesnt seem to be much coverage on the woman involved. Which makes me a bit worried about what she does for a job.

i hope to God she doesnt work in the housing sector

I don't understand why the woman placing it on the damn pyre seems to be getting away with it Shock

I wonder if.she's the one who's a teacher ?? Can't say I think she'll be much of a loss to the education system when she inevitably loses her job. Hmm

HelenaDove · 07/11/2018 15:12

A teacher? Jesus wept.

I've got LBC on in the background. They're currently having a phone in about the Grenfell Tower bonfire scandal. It strikes me that there has been enormous coverage of this in the press. Yet there has been virtually nothing on the meeting on 29 October at the Hilton, Kensington. This followed the leaked information from Prof. Anna Stec - that she'd found high levels of hydrogen cyanide in soil samples from the Tower. Residents were clearly very concerned about how they may have been poisoned. So this meeting was meant to be the Council and its panel of experts, answering everyone's concerns. The press had covered the leak pretty extensively, and there were plenty present at the meeting - over 300 attended. For example, I saw Rags Martel there, who's been covering Grenfell for ages.

Yet there was virtually nothing about this meeting in the press, including from Rags. And given that the council/panel stonewalled the residents for over two hours, the press could have been very helpful in reporting it. But they didn't; instead they're going on about this bonfire effigy. I wonder why.

@jennymor123 i was also waiting to see articles and segments on the news about that but....................tumbleweed.

Apparently, if it’s to be believed they have been swept out of the station by the police and are in a secret location? So are they now victims or something? Bizarre behaviour by the police they should be made to face the consequences not have police protection. Cowardly as well as despicable.

TheCupboardUnderTheStairs · 08/11/2018 10:50

Everyone deserves Police protection, especially from a baying mob with pitchforks.

Lizzie48 · 08/11/2018 10:55

@user1457017537

Even pardophiles get police protection if they're in danger of being lynched. Taking the law into our own hands is never justified. These people have been named and shamed, quite rightly.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 10:57

The primary function of free speech now seems to be the right to be offensive. How low can we go?

Lizzie48 · 08/11/2018 10:57

Posted too soon. They won't be able to live it down for some time, which in my book is punishment in itself.

StoneofDestiny · 08/11/2018 11:02

@user1457017537

Is there evedence they have been threatened?

TheCupboardUnderTheStairs · 08/11/2018 11:09

Is there evidence they have been threatened?

Apart from the 3 million Twatter users and the same again of MNetters calling for their heads, we don't know. But it is an offence to threaten someone.

StoneofDestiny · 08/11/2018 11:25

I don’t do Facebook or Twitter - just AIBU on mumsnet. I’ve read criticism, not direct threats- must have missed them

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/11/2018 12:25

Taking the law into our own hands is never justified

Exactly. It might be nice to think the pitchfork-wavers would learn something from this, but somehow I doubt it

If these people have committed a crime - which apparently is yet to be determined - I'm just as keen for them to face justice as everyone else. But I'd prefer it to be done through the proper process rather than by a baying mob of armchair lawyers

user1457017537 · 08/11/2018 13:38

Well I personally don’t think pedophiles deserve any protection from the police. Can’t say they’ve tend the courtesy to their little victims so why should we spend tax payers money protecting them. These people must have known what they were doing was offensive. Crying wolf and demanding police protection just shows them for the cowardly scum they are.

@ewangibbs

Ewan Gibbs Retweeted Laura

"So the #GrenfellEffigy suspects include Conservative Party members, a buy-to-let landlord, a company director, a scaffolding business owner and the son of a property magnate. Tell us more about how racism and the nascent far-right are the preserve of the working class."

OP posts:
Neshoma · 08/11/2018 14:04

You must be so happy - all the things you hate -Tories, Landlords, business owners. Strange that.

HelenaDove · 08/11/2018 14:08

@Neshoma im not fucking happy at all I wish this effigy thing had never happened because its been so hurtful to those who went through the trauma and the loss of the Grenfell fire.

If you think im happy then that shows what kind of person you are.

And i dont hate business owners. i have a close friend who is one Whose business started in 1980 and is very successful.

Shes not a racist though. And she also doesnt think those who rent are beneath her.

OP posts:
SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 14:08

I don't think this makes anyone happy, but it's not entirely surprising who these people are and how they live, that they seem to have had an empathy by-pass at some point.

Lizzie48 · 08/11/2018 15:00

@user1457017537

No, I agree that pedophiles are not deserving of police protection, I'm a survivor of childhood SA, so of course I don't like it. No one was found guilty in our case. One of them was investigated by the police but there wasn't enough evidence for there to be a 'realistic prospect of conviction'. (The other perpetrators are dead, including our abusive F. The police were convinced they had their man as well, so he's still free.

But that doesn't make lynch mob activity right either. The mobs don't know who is genuinely guilty after all; there have been cases of mistaken identity as well.

StoneofDestiny · 08/11/2018 16:18

But that doesn't make lynch mob activity right either. The mobs don't know who is genuinely guilty after all; there have been cases of mistaken identity as well

Correct. Heaven help us if we have 'justice' administered by vigilante thugs.

user1457017537 · 08/11/2018 19:23

Agree we shouldn’t mob justice but if a woman is being repeatedly beaten by a partner I don’t see the police offering her a safe house and police protection.

Lizzie48 · 08/11/2018 20:00

There are women's refuges, so yes they are offered places of safety. Obviously, police forces vary in their willingness to act to protect vulnerable women, that does need to be dealt with.

Police protection for pedophiles is a totally different issue. It's not just for the benefit of the person concerned, but it's about maintaining public order, which is important for all of us, as when mob violence is invited, innocent people can be caught in the crossfire.

Speaking as a parent now, I would prefer these people were in safe houses where they can be carefully monitored rather than disappearing underground and becoming even more of a danger to children.
