Im absolutely disgusted at this and it shows how far the stigma against social housing tenants has gone.

Imagine if Muslims made a model of the Manchester arena bombing, with models of the victims and filmed themselves gloating over it.
Still think "free speech" means they shouldn't be arrested?

Actually, Islamic State have posted videos glorying in the Manchester Arena bombing as they have done following other terrorist acts. And if it's hate speech then yes, they should be charged with it. But those videos are often posted online outside this country.

But most Muslims disapprove strongly of this, and haven't hesitated to say so, and the fact is more Muslims die in terrorist acts worldwide than anyone else.

Sadly, there will always be those who glory in other people's misery.

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 10:45

ISIS make continuous attempts to 'incite violence', not very successfully, and the government likes to use these alleged examples of 'incitement' to encroach upon a free internet.

It's really no less a menace when well-intentioned Guardianistas make attempts at censorship than it is when Western democratic governments do, or faraway dictatorships. It's all bad, it's all fascist, and it's all part of an extremist recruitment script.

Sowhatifidosnore · 07/11/2018 11:04

They’re idiots, and are going to pay dearly for this I would imagine. Would you want to employ them?

MissEliza · 07/11/2018 11:17

Apparently in the model built, there was a figure which was clearly a Muslim lady who they referred to as a ninja. So there is a racist motivation behind it.

Lizzie48 · 07/11/2018 11:33

Yes, racist and probably Islamophobic too. There's a lot of that right now, as we've seen from Katie Hopkins's suggestion that the Grenfell fire was started as a result of candles lit for Ramadan.

You're right, @InertPotato it's all being used as a means of censoring content on the web. ISIS have not been successful at inciting violence among mainstream Muslims, I think that's unlikely to change, as innocent Muslims are being killed as well as 'Infidels'.

The government needs to work with the Muslim community not alienate them.

BombBiggleton · 07/11/2018 11:33

Lot's of consequences for these sick, evil scum bags, purely from the fact that they have been named and shamed.

Maybe if they are employed, their actions won't be enough to get them sacked. It depends on their T&C's. They will most likely be ostracised by their peers though.

Anyone who adds up the language they use, see the effigies and cut outs, and see the large St Georges flag and doesn't come to the conclusion that they are disgusting racists is quite frankly deliberately defending racists and the hate that has taken place here.

It is what it is, and it is just so depressing that people like this exist.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/11/2018 11:41

It's very funny, that those defending free speech always seem to jump at the chance to do so when it's coming from the far right, but never extend the same privilege to those who come out to challenge them.

mumsastudent · 07/11/2018 11:42

I am hoping that because these (words fail me!) put the scenario on the media (ie filmed it ect) with their appalling commentary that this is how the police will be able to prosecute otherwise I hope they can be named & shamed (come on daily mail do your worst on everybody'sbehalf for once) with photos -

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 11:42

Of course it’s racist. Not sure what other evidence you’d need. I guess this is relevant if you’re looking for a ‘protected class’ but I object to this as a means to limit free speech in any case.

Their lives as they know it are pretty much over, that seems sufficient punishment.

FekkoThePenguin · 07/11/2018 11:42

More than one person thought this up, planned it, bought the paper and bits, made it, set it up...

A group of so called 'adults' and no one said 'hang on that's sick...'?

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 11:44

Sinisterbum has anyone attempted to censor you?

I’ve argued for the rights of flag burners and Isis, that’s pretty left wing isn’t It?

jennymor123 · 07/11/2018 12:33

@InterPotato

I've been censored many times, and often by the Guardian (comments). You're never told why, of course, but the two main reasons seem to be: 1) You're criticising powerful business interests that have a connection/control over the publication concerned, 2) the publication's lawyers are worried about being sued. On the latter, I raised the issue of leading fire officials, including someone in the FBU, receiving payments from the chemical industry to push for flame retardants in products, which got cut by the Guardian.

InertPotato · 07/11/2018 12:55

Sure. Consolidation of power is a threat to us all.

MissEliza · 07/11/2018 13:20

I know Fekko that's what my 10 year old said when we were watching the news yesterday.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/11/2018 13:24

I don't pretend any legal expertise so can't comment on whether this horrible incident qualifies as a crime or not

However call me a cynic, but I can't help wondering if the current police response is down to wanting to be "seen to be doing something" while the fuss dies down

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/11/2018 13:26

A group of so called 'adults' and no one said 'hang on that's sick...'?

Birds of a feather and all that ... ?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/11/2018 14:09

Fekko and that's a 10 year old little boy talking. As I've previously alluded to. These are fully fledged adults.
Im not saying it would excuse it but They're not young teens or preteens age 11,12 or 13.

I thought about posting this onto these threads last night but i thought id let a few more posts about freedom of speech onto the thread first.

Because some quarters want it both ways.

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/gagging-clauses-criticism-of-theresa-may-banned-in-grenfell-safety-deal-7mbdll6cj

Experts hired by the government to test cladding 12 days after the Grenfell Tower fire were banned from criticising Theresa May or doing anything to embarrass her, The Times can reveal.

The engineering company WSP agreed to the terms when it was appointed to analyse the safety of government buildings in the days after the disaster.

WSP’s contract stated that it must not create “adverse publicity” about the Cabinet Office or other Crown bodies, a group of organisations that includes the prime minister’s office.

Do you imagine yourself as some kind of Machiavellian genius? Wink

I abhor Teresa May, I abhor the power of big business that would be exploited to deprive anyone of their tenants' rights, I abhor any impingements upon freedom of speech across the board.

Hope that's clear enough.

HelenaDove · 07/11/2018 14:30

@jennymor123 Ive seen fellow tenants censored by the Guardian when they tried to post under an article about an HA CEO winning an award for services to housing.

They were posting about the disrepair and dangerous workmanship they had experienced........or rather they were trying to but got censored.

In this case, though, you agreed with what they were saying, so it's censorship and the content should stand. Right?

Neshoma · 07/11/2018 14:46

Puzzled I came on to say the same thing. If we don't see the Police doing something the public will accuse them of not doing anything.

Helena to be fair, what has testing the cladding anything to do with T May? This has become a war of politics rather than finding out what, who, where, why and how.

Oliversmumsarmy · 07/11/2018 14:58

When I heard what the police had done arresting people over something that on the surface appeared to words.

Extremely bad taste words.

I am left speechless.

Friend has an injunction against her stbexh because of domestic abuse and worse.

She is on a priority list to be flagged up if she dials 999.

Stbexh treats the injunction like toilet paper.

He has come up the driveway and hammered on the door, he has cornered her in a car park he sends threatening messages through 3rd parties.

Number of times she called 999 too many to count,

Number of times police have come out

HelenaDove · 07/11/2018 15:00

@Neshoma that is exactly the reaction i expected from you

you want it both ways.
