Macron's behaviour is despicable

I am a moderate remainer, I say that because I do feel we should respect the vote. I am not a remainer who think a second ref will help. A second ref won't help regardless of the outcome, because the other side will simply demand another one, and another and so it would go on indefinitely and it is utterly futile and pointless.

I had come to the conclusion that a good deal would be the best outcome in the end. However I am just appalled at the behaviour and language coming out of the EU, and particularly Macron.

I am now even thinking what is the point? What is the point in continuing with any 'deal'? They are clearly not remotely interested.

May (for all her faults, and she has many) should gather her dignity and call it a day. We were there in good faith, the chequers plan is not perfect but it was a starting point. I had hoped it would work. It would have offered a solution of sorts.

I have cancelled our holiday next year to France. I don't want to go anywhere so openly hostile, despite the fact we have been holidaying there for my entire living life. I can't support Macron's comments that were both needlessly humiliating and rude to our prime minister.

Why what did he say to her or about her ? I know that he mentioned that some of those who have previously told the UK public that the whole Brexit thing would be really easy to sort out, were telling fibs , they did and they did.

The EU have been very clear about whar us and isn't possible. The government know this, too, which is why they wasted so much time on a plan that is unworkable because it will weaken the single market.

The UK has voted to leave the EU. The EU leaders first responsibility is towards the citicens they represent. Why is it so hard to grasp that they don't owe us anything?

We have paid huge amounts into the EU and lots of EU nationals choose to make the UK their home. It is a disaster for the whole of the EU that we are leaving. I don't therefore agree that they don't owe us anything. It is not a one way street just because we voted to leave.

I did see that Macron agreed with the British Electoral Commission, that Vote Leave lied and cheated.
He seems to be supporting British Rule of Law on that one.

Calling any country 'liars' regardless of where you sit on the brexit spectrum and embarrassing the UK prime minster is unprecedented in a summit that was supposed to be bringing the two sides together.

I don’t think you’ve understood how this works. WE are the ones that desperately need a deal to work, not the EU.

In 2016 we paid into the EU £13.1 billions and we 'got back '£4.5 billions. That's a huge deficit for the EU to lose annually.

I agree it’s not necessary for Mr Macron to be trying to embarrass Mrs May.

She’s seems quite capable of doing that all by herself.

The deal May took is the only deal available. There is neither time nor the political will to produce another one. Certainly nothing in the time frame.

So I am sure anyone that voted for brexit must be absolutely delighted this morning.

He’s right. We were all lied to about Brexit. There will not be any sort of good deal for the UK.

But to be fair Macron’s words were entirely called for. The Leave “architects” opened a can of worms based on a load of lies and then fucked off. And the Chequers “plan” is a no go. Even swathes of her own Party are imploring her to listen.

He isn't bullying May, May is being incredibly stupid - having been told by just about everybody that the Chequers plan was not going to work, she just went ahead with it anyway.

Yes, this. It has been incredibly frustrating for me, a member of the public, to watch her hanging desperately on to Chequers despite being told for months, practically in words of one syllable and with accompanying simple diagrams, that it would not fly.

So how frustrating must it have been for him and other leaders of member countries?

Get used to it because being insulted, sidelined and on the back foot is how international relations are going to look from now on. We are a little country, getting smaller by the day.
