To start a new creepiest/scariest/unexplainable stories thread?

I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment?

Okay but I may need more than a moment and have name changed as very outing. Years ago I worked in a care home near the grounds of a derelict 'mental hospital ' (I know it's not pc but that is what iit was known as ) I was walking a resident who kept shouting out random words. About 10 metres ahead was a figure in a black cloak, every time the resident shouted ,the figure stood stock still for a few seconds, then carried on his/her way. This happened about 6 times until the figure eventually turned around. Well all I can describe it as ,was a person with a face but no features. It scared the c*#p out of me, but I didn't tell anyone in case they moved me into the spare room back at the unit. I thought I had seen the grim reaper as I had no other explanation for it, but as I lived I discounted that theory. About a year later I finally told a few members of staff when we were recounting scary stories. One of the ladies had a daughter who had worked at the asylum some 10 years previously and she told her my story a few days later. She was telling her about where the figure turned around and her daughter interrupted and said' ' I know, she didn't have a face.' It turned out she had seen her (it) more than a decade before. If you had asked me the day before I saw it if I believed in ghosts I would have been very sceptical, but now well if you have a better explanation let me have it please.

Funnily enough I had a really weird moment on Saturday. I was sitting down having a cup of tea, and happened to look towards my dining room, and noticed what looked like s patch of smoke, about the shape of a of a ten year old, just hovering. It was there for about two or three minutes, and then just disappeared. The hairs on my arms stood on end, and felt as though my hair was doing the same. I felt really, really uncomfortable.

LoveAScaryTaleMe I would have screamed like a small child at that! Sounds terrifying, and then the fact the other staff member’s daughter saw it, too

A few weeks ago parked outside a shopping complex, sent dd in to collect a parcel and watched a white silhouette of a person disappear into the brick wall.
We also have a family spook, heard by lots of us, seen by me and dh, a little boy with fair hair. Part of the family now tbh!

Name changed as have told quite a few people about this.

My uncle died on Thursday night. In his sleep. A stroke. I had the most vivid dream that night that I had no movement in the side of my face and was trying to tell people I was having a stroke but couldn't speak. Freaked me right out.

I used to work in a shop doing window dressing/displays. Lots of overnight work because obviously it’s harder to do with the shop open. One corner of the shop always had weird stuff happening in it. Items would fall and break, but only at night. Even if they seemed to be sturdy on the shelves. One night items fell following where I was walking to go collect my stuff to leave. We were in a train station so I always assumed it was the vibrations from the trains or maybe my footsteps on the old floor.

But once, one of the displays had a set of books in between some bookends we sold. One of the books would always be pushed out and I preferred to have them flush. I just assumed a member of staff was doing it (it was always the same book of the series pushed out). So I’m doing my night shift, I see the book, I straighten it. It’s so late there are no more trains. Walk away, do other stuff... turn around to see the book was pushed out again. Not scary to write down, but very scary to see when you’re alone at 3am.

From then on I didn’t do night shifts alone, and other staff would say they felt a bad vibe from that corner. With all the falling stuff it gave off a very malevolent feeling - and I don’t believe in anything paranormal!

My DP has a dream about an uncle she hadn’t seen for a very long time. When she woke up she told me she had dreamt about him.

Her mum then rang and immediately DP said it’s about [uncle]. Her mum was ringing to tell her he had died.

HP and the Chamber of Secrets - that’s why I thought staff. Trying to be cutesy and like “oooh the chamber of secrets is open” but no it was a ghost!

Something odd happened to me a week ago! I was in Devon on our family holiday and we were having a drink at an old pub, local to where we were staying. I had just (gently) put my new drink on to the table. I turned away to talk to one of my dc and when I turned back, the glass had shattered into tiny pieces. The couple sitting next to us saw it happen and were very creeped out - they said it just exploded in front of them. I am sure there is a logical and scientific explanation, but it was very wooh at the time.

The house I lived in as a teenager was close to a sharp turn in the road. I began to have this weird “vision”, the same recurring scene of a white car with writing on the side driving into our house. It would just randomly pop into my head and carried on for several months. I told my parents and we all disregarded it as nothing significant.

One day I was home alone and I heard an almighty crash. The whole house shook. I ran out the front and some guy had skidded on the corner and driven straight into my bedroom. White car with green writing on the side.

I’m such a skeptic and would never believe it if anyone told me the story but it definitely happened!

There is a ghost at my mums house, we have all seen / experienced him over the years.

He appears in times of change or upheaval so we see him whenever people die / babies arrive /
People move house etc.. it's strangely comforting but was quite scary when I was little

When my dog died I lay in bed that night and cried hysterically. Suddenly the light came on by itself! I turned it off. The following night I discovered that the light didn’t work because the light fitting was melted and the bulb was literally fused into it. Had to get a new light fitting.

We recently went on holiday to Dorset and spent a lot of time at Charmouth looking for fossils. Several days in fact, and found none. Talk about looking for a needle in a haystack - millions of tons of rocks and stones everywhere, but we didn't find a single fossil all week.

The day we left, we checked out of our accommodation, handed the keys back in and were about to drive home when dd said she wanted to go to the beach again. DH and I really wanted to get going, because we knew the traffic would be building up, but dd was quite insistent, so we gave in.

We went down to the beach and wandered about for a few minutes. The sea was really calm and flat and just as we turned to leave, dd picked up a small flat stone to skim across the water.

She glanced down at the stone she had picked up... and it had a fossil in it.

About 20 years ago my first Saturday job was at a well-known high street chemists. It was housed in a very old building that had previously been a hotel. Loads of creepy stories about people throwing themselves from upstairs windows etc. On a Saturday afternoon, it was my job to re-stock the baby food/toiletries section so I'd go upstairs to the warehouse and start loading up the items. I was alone and crouched down amongst the shelves when suddenly I saw a figure in my peripheral vision walk across the aisle next to me. I called out hello thinking it was a colleague from downstairs but got no reply. I was sure it was a particular member of staff from the height/build/hair colour that I'd made out in the glimpse I saw. Suddenly I felt really uneasy and just wanted to be downstairs. Chucked my trolley into the lift and ran down the stairs (always hated waiting for the lift doors to close and was sure someone would appear just as the doors shut!). First thing I did when I got to the bottom was head over to my colleague's department and from the size of the queue, it looked as though she'd been there for quite some time. She swore blind later that she'd not been upstairs, which was backed up by another member of staff. Had always felt a bit uneasy up there and felt downright terrified after that!

There must be an explanation for this.

Here goes.

Hubby takes son 1 to a club in the car.

I am left with son 2 and daughter 1 - all happy, pottering in house.

Suddenly I hear my husband clearly shout HELP!

Both kids in the other room come running and said ‘we heard dad shout help?’

We looked outside - no car.

I had an urge to pray and prayed for protection over him and ds1.

Then phoned his MOBY. He had started to break down on motorway and had Just that minute managed to pull in to a lay-by by skin of his teeth.

Weird.
