I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

When I was a teen, about 14-15, I had a series of dreams that eventually turned out to be premonitions.

My normal dreams, even now, tend to be really, really surreal. So when I was having these dreams, they would stand out as they were of me watching some news announcement. They weren't about big major happenings, but were distinctive enough not to be the kind of news you'd hear every day.

They generally came true between 3-12 months later, with I think a couple of exceptions. The first couple of times I dismissed it as coincidence, but after that, I'd get a sort of feeling that something significant was going to happen, then the news announcement would come on. I had one come true about 2-3 years ago, but of course

I've never had that type of dream since, and sadly I didn't write down the dream details. I had that fuzzy feeling about one coming true about 2-3 years ago, but of course the dream itself was so long ago that I can't be certain I had dreamt the news item. Cetainly had the strongest feeling of deja vu though.

Maybe I have a gift and just failed to follow through and develop it. I've recently been thinking I need to write down my dreams and see where it goes.

A friend of mine sadly lost her father. He was a huge presence in the family. She had a big birthday and all I could think of was him. I'd only met him a couple of times. All the time he kept popping into my head. I decided to paint a picture of him to give to her on her birthday. I don't ever display or share my paintings, but I just couldn't get it out of my mind. I think he was working through me, to remind her he was still there.
My grandma visits everyone in the family. We had an experience with her when ds1 was a newborn. We'd put him in his Moses basket in his room. When dh went to get him one of his soft toys had moved from his feet (which was on top of the blanket, feet under,) to his chest. We didn't move it, and there was no way he could have moved it. Stuff goes missing in all the family houses. We've all seen her out of the corner of our eye. She wears the same outfit. It's so good that she's around!
I also get feelings. One in a friend's house. Something bad had happened there. There was such a bad feeling in the hall, so oppressive.

Some years ago I picked up a necklace at one those antiques/bits and bobs stalls in the Brighton Lanes, it was a gorgeous cameo. Whenever I wore it I got the weirdest feeling that someone was standing behind me and following me through the house/shop/wherever I was. I stopped wearing it because of the feeling but put it down to me having an overactive imagination.

I ended up giving it away to a friend who admired it, when I asked if she still wore it at a party some months later (she was wearing a different cameo) she looked uncomfortable and said she'd had to get rid of it as when she wore it her young son had pointed out the 'creepy lady with long hair behind her who didn't like her wearing her necklace'

I am a LOT more open to the idea of ghosts and so on after that I can tell you.

GoldenBuns · 03/09/2018 20:02

Not very creepy, but a few years ago I had a dream that I had won the lottery. I had never bought a ticket before, but when I told my aunt, who I was staying with at the time, she made me buy a ticket. I won £40 still gutted it wasn't a million.

My 5 week old baby was in my bed which I'd put pillows all around him to stop him falling out , he was asleep ...I went downstairs to make a cup of tea. When I returned he was in his cot at the other side of the room ...we were in the house with my 10 year old DS who was scared to even hold him let alone pick him up ...he swears to this day he didn't move him ShockShock

Love reading all these! I'm on holiday abroad at the mo and it's late. Family all asleep in our room so I'm going to sleep too now but I'll pop my few things on here when I get the chance!

BigBlueBubble · 03/09/2018 20:43

My mum has always been frightened of the supernatural. She won’t even read a story about it. I often used to hear her saying “Go away!” When I grew up she told me she sees things she doesn’t want to see so she tells them to go away. I was sceptical and even worried that she might be mentally ill.

One time our neighbour brought her elderly mother to her house to care for her in her last few days. The old lady was terrified and you could hear her crying through the open window. So my mum went in and held her hand, and said look here’s Harry coming to fetch you, and here’s Sarah and doesn’t she look pretty with her red hair, etc. She named and described friends and family of this lady who had been dead for years. The neighbour and her family were totally freaked out by the level of personal detail in my mum’s descriptions. She stayed with the old lady and gave her comfort all day until she passed. Afterwards she wouldn’t talk about it apart from saying “I’ve told you before, I see things I don’t want to see”. She still won’t tell me what she sees.

brokenharbour · 03/09/2018 20:48

Imagine being a ghost stuck in your old house and someone comes and puts Justin bieber pictures up all over the walls...

So weird figure walking into the wall at the shopping centre. I don't know why some people see things and others don't. I'd like to but never have. Would probably scare the crap out of me though.

MadisonAvenue · 03/09/2018 21:17

Haint you haven't read the Savernake story on here? It's seriously scary.
I'll see if I can find it.

MadisonAvenue · 03/09/2018 21:21

Found it, for anyone who hasn't read the Savernake Forest story:

Is it this one?Found it. Warning: it's very long (sorry) and very freaky, and if anyone can come up with a rational explanation I'd be extremely grateful because I'm generally a pretty rational non-woo where's-the-evidence person, but I've never been able to explain this and it still makes my heart beat faster and the hair stand up on my arms when I think about it, years later.

I was pet sitting for my friend several years ago. She had moved into a sort of small holding right on the edge of a village in the SW, with a huge garden that backed onto trees. At the time she had a right menagerie - chickens, ducks, a couple of Shetlands, cats and four black retrievers, three fully grown and one a half grown puppy. Originally DH had been going to come with me as a little holiday but the dates she ended up having to go away for work clashed with a couple of his medical appointments so he stayed at home with our dog and I went to petsit alone.

It was about halfway through my stay, a couple of nights to go. Late evening, already dark when I heard a massive commotion from the chicken shed, banging and thumping. I assumed a fox or something had got in so went out to check. As I was halfway across the garden the noise stopped instantly as if it had been shut off; by the time I got to the shed all was calm and the chickens were all settled, mostly asleep. No sign of any intruder or disturbance at all, nothing to explain the noise or any indication that the chickens had made a noise. Bit freaky but I didn't (and still don't) know much about The Way of Chicken so I locked up again and left them to it.

As I went back in the house a small black shape ran past me out of the back door and I realised the puppy must have got out. It streaked across the garden and off towards the woods. Cue much cursing, then calling her name in vain. More cursing when she didn't come back. I grabbed a torch and put one of the other dogs on the lead, partly for protection, partly because I thought the pup was more likely to come back if I had one of her canine companions with me and partly because I didn't fancy my chances of finding my way back to the house on my own even though there were a couple of vague paths that I'd followed when walking the dogs throughout the week.

Off we trudged into the wood along one of these paths, me calling pup's name at intervals and trying not to imagine murderers and rapists behind every tree trunk. We got to a point where it felt like the trees were starting to thin out and I remember thinking that I didn't remember a clearing on this path and we must have gone wrong somewhere when the dog with me slowed right down and started to resist going forward. I tried to jolly her along - while my stomach suddenly dropped like a stone - and she started growling, a really low serious rumbling growl. By this time I was practically shitting myself. I tried shining the torch ahead but the beam just sort of bounced back off the darkness if that makes sense? I got the sense of something - or somethings - moving but just sinuous deeper black shapes against the blackness and always on the periphery of vision. (The hairs on my arms are standing up again just remembering how completely and utterly terrified I was. I have honestly never known a feeling like it.)

At this point the dog sank right down, still growling, hackles up and refused to budge. I muttered something like "Jesus, you have got to be kidding me" and this ugly gurgling inhuman sort of voice hissed, right up close as if someone was right next to me "don't say that name". At the same time there was a horrible snickering sort of laugh. I cant express how utterly petrified I was. I can't remember having any coherent thoughts apart from the word "evil". That's the only clear thing I can remember. Me and the dog were frozen to the spot with pure fear. Then a different voice, really commanding, said "GO. BACK." That sounded more in my head but echoey, where the others had sounded out in the air IYSWIM?

Wherever it came from it did the trick. Me & the dog turned and belted back through the woods. She basically towed me, I just clung onto her lead stumbling to keep up and sobbing with fear. I lost the torch somewhere on that wild run but there was no way I was stopping to find it. How I didn't run blindly into a tree I'll never know, she guided me I guess. I can remember thinking desperately that I mustn't let go of her lead or "they" would get me.

When we got back to the garden she suddenly stopped - I did fall over her this time, onto my hands and knees - turned around and started snarling, proper teeth bared, rabid-looking snarls, back at the trees and the darkness. I thought I heard the snickering again but the blood was pounding in my ears so hard I can't be sure. I scrambled up and ran to the back door and she followed me but backing and snarling all the way as if holding something at bay. Oh, and the chicken shed was banging and thumping again. I got the back door open, me and her belted in, I slammed home every bolt behind us. The other dogs left behind were staring at the door and growling too with their hackles up and when I saw all three of them, puppy included, acting like that I started to cry properly because I honestly thought I was trapped in some horror film nightmare and was going to die. I don't know - I still don't know - what the black shape was that ran past me out of the house and triggered all of this because the puppy was right there in the kitchen.

Anyway I made sure every door and window was locked and bolted, I turned on every light in the house, I wandered round mumbling all sorts of weird half-religious half-spiritual shit to ward off evil spirits. Gradually the dogs settled down and stopped growling, and eventually stopped glancing at the door. Funnily enough I didn't sleep for one second that night and I rang my DH and begged him to come over the last couple of days. I know I didn't dream it because I was covered in scratches from running through the woods and had grazed hands from where I fell over the dog in the garden.

Nothing like that has happened before or since and I hope it never, ever does. It was the single most horrible, terrifying experience of my entire life

WTBE · 03/09/2018 21:28

My mum was a believer and would never really go into why or what she had seen, but she did tell us if we are feeling uncomfortable (the I'm being watched feeling) just shout or with a sturn voice say leave me alone, go away or something similar.

I still do it now, my neighbours must think I'm a right Mardy cow always telling people to piss off 😂

Applesandoranges1 · 03/09/2018 21:30

First place after leaving home was a rental flat that I shared with my best mate, we shared a bedroom but sometimes I slept in the living room to have some space (and get away from the untidiness Grin).

During the day I used to get a funny feeling that I was being watched from the living room door, nothing too sinister but just that sensation that someone is observing you..

Anyway, one night in early October I woke up with a start (was sleeping in the living room) and there was an elderly woman standing at the end of my bed staring at me, she had long wispy grey hair that looked like it had been in a bun but was hanging loose with curls, she had on a checkered blouse. I freaked out and ran through to my bedroom.

That same week there were a few strange goings on, the lights would all be on when we arrived home, objects were moved and the strangest one was when the washing that had been laundered but still wet in the machine had been pulled out and left on the kitchen floor. My friend was sceptical at first but after the washing on the floor she began to wonder. After about a week it all stopped and normal life resumed.

A couple of months later I met a guy and we started dating. One night we were heading out and he said, I get a really weird feeling in your flat, it's like I'm being watched from over there - pointing at the door. I moved out about 6 months later.

A year or so later I bumped into my old next door neighbour and we were chatting about the block and he told me that the flat was haunted. I said I knew it was as I had seen a lady and I described her. He told me a lady of that description had died there about 7 years ago and she had been dead for about a week before anyone realised. I asked what time of year it happened and, you guessed it, beginning of October...

I looked it all up and he was right. She was a spinster and she died aged 82! So weird.

Nothing to add as nothing woo ever happens to me, but just blatantly placemarking to hear all your stories!

So excited

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 03/09/2018 21:45

First ghost I saw I was about 15, lying on the floor at my friend's house trying to sort the video player out!! Looked up at the black screen and saw her df - recently deceased, standing behind me.

MiamiLogic · 03/09/2018 22:02

If you like this kind of thing, definitely read Dear David! Freaks me out so much but it's so engrossing

NoNoCharlieRascal · 03/09/2018 22:02

This sounds so daft and you'll think I'm mad but I swear in my old flat there was a ghost of a dog. We often heard the noise of claws/paws on the floorboards and running up and down the stairs. Sometimes when I was sat on the sofa I would get the urge to put my arm around the empty space next to me to cuddle the 'dog'. And I used to get the strangest feeling when hoovering, like it was hated and I had to finish as quickly as possible.
