I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

Years ago I worked in the PR department of an advertising agency. The big boss of the advertising side had a reputation for being ruthless and also a bit gropey and unpleasant with female staff. He was married and was sleeping with one of the admin staff, and all this was quite open. But we PR people were beneath the notice of the advertising people and we never really had much to do with them - separate clients, separate social events and everything. I certainly never ever spoke to this guy, even in the lift up from the car park in the mornings.

Some years after I had left I got a call from a headhunter inviting me for an interview at a new agency and I went along, after hours. The boss of the new agency was this horrible bloke. He said he remembered me and he was very intense. The interview was very easy and he talked way more than I did. But I was creeped out and couldn't wait to leave.

All the way home I felt really scared - and like he was actually inside my head. It was horrible. I really felt that he was actually evil, not just the usual horrible sexist ratbag you met in advertising then (and possibly still do). I felt like I couldn't shake him off for several hours and the next day I told the head hunter the answer was 'hell no'. But he didn't take no for an answer and pursued me via the headhunter for several weeks. She had to be pretty firm with him in the end. I thank my lucky stars it went no further.

I stayed with my mother one Xmas, just us two. She's not a touchy feely person, not one for hugs or being physical, so I was surprised one night to hear her come into my room late and pull the covers up over my shoulders and kiss my head. (I was lying half asleep in the dark.)
Literally no more than five minutes after that I got up to go to the loo. And heard her coming into the house, she'd been out with the dogs for over half an hour and hadn't been anywhere near my room. No idea who or what kissed me goodnight.

Nowshe I used to work in a men's prison and I've definitely felt that cold evil feeling coming from a person. It's our animal instinct though, and too often we ignore it.

I knew my grandad had died before I should have done.

Was washing up with my mum and heard a clock chiming......very distinctive chime of my grandads clock. We didn't have a clock like that in our house. Heard it clear as day and my mum didn't hear it. Phone rang five mins later saying he'd just died.

loveautum · 08/01/2019 21:18

@bringbacksideburns that's a scary story. I have a little one of 16 months, so I can completely understand how terrifying that must of been. I think you definitely experienced something since your DH woke as well. I'm pleased that it didn't happen again, but imagine the next night must have been a tense experience 😱

ThePollutedShadesOfPemberley · 08/01/2019 22:38

I have told this story on here before. I have had many strange experiences. I was raised in a council house that was built on the site of a demolished WW2 searchlight camp. Prior to the camp being built it was all just farmland.

When I was mid twenties I was standing in the front garden when I felt very lightheaded and had a loud ringing and buzzing in my ears. The front garden of the house and all the other houses were no longer there and I was looking at the landscape many years prior and it was all just open land. I was able to see the treeline that was visible from the back of the house and it had trees much smaller than I was familiar with. The chilly overcast day was gone and it was warmer and sunny but the air seemed thick and swirly which is hard to explain. I don't know how long this went on for but long enough for me to notice that the telegraph poles were not there. I looked down at the ground to see what the ground I was standing on looked like and with that more ringing in my ears and I was back in the modern day.

I had a similar experience many years later. I was on my way to a job interview. I decided to try a short cut and was aware I was lost and I was starting to panic that I would be late. I was driving along a quiet country road but going quite fast when I had the ear ringing thing and the metalled surface ran out and I was on a dirt track. The air felt thick and everything seemed almost behind misted glass. I slowed down as I was frightened. Nothing looked normal. I stopped as I felt so weird and the ringing in my ears was cacophonic. In a trice the scenery all changed and I was on a tarmac road and back in the real/modern world. The ringing was gone and I carried on my journey popping out at a T junction from which I knew the way.
I had the interview but decided there and then I didn't want the job. I was relaxed about that decision on the way home so decide to look for that track. It wasn't there. It was all tarmac. There were some huge trees too which were not there when I passed the first time.
Both these experiences I put down to some sort of timeslip. The second maybe brought on by stress but the first for no obvious reason.

The house my friend Dan lived in when we were in our early twenties was very strange and many of us in the friendship group had unexplainable experiences there. The house had a calm, pleasant atmosphere and we had many good times there but every now and then something would happen to creep everyone out.

On one occasion, six of us heard the sound of a ball bouncing down the stairs when there was nothing there. I was alone in the house one morning when I heard crashing noises from the kitchen: legged it home immediately of course, and when I asked Dan about it later, nothing was out of place in the kitchen. Dan would sometimes wake at night to hear a 'ting ting ting' noise and see the light bulb in his bedroom swinging from side to side.

Dan once had a friend visit from Norway, where he had once lived, and we all agreed not to mention the 'ghost' to her in case it frightened her. After the first night, she asked if she could bunk in with another girl at she was too scared to sleep alone. She told us she'd woken in the night to see a dark figure looming over her bed!

@cactusplant, you should get a vicar or priest in. The spiritualist people will just mess with the spirits rather than exorcosing them.

I've had loads over the years but I get far less now I am older. I put one of my dogs to sleep in June. He is buried in the garden. I hear his little burble outside the door now and again. Dh heard it once too.

Going back a few years our other dog had been shut in as we were expecting a delivery and the gates were open to the main road. DH and I were walking up the garden and as we approached our trailer on the drive we both saw this dog trot past the front of it. We turned to each other to say, 'I though we shut him in!'. I ran towards him to grab him and get him in but he wasn't there. DH quickly shut the gate to avoid a disaster and we went into the house to find him asleep on the sofa.
Afterwards we discussed what we actually saw and it was the same apart from the natural variation because DH was to the left of me so I saw slightly more of the dog than he did. We both saw our brown brindle staffie cross trot across the front of our trailer though. Spooked us no end.

We are all pretty sure that my grandad is still in my Nana’s house Smile
He died just over 8 years ago - typical illnesses associated with old age.
My nana put all her mugs in the cupboard with the handles to the side. One day my mum went in the cupboard and got herself a mug out (nothing was out of the ordinary) then my dad piped up asking if she’d make him a cuppa as well. So she went back to the cupboard, and my grandad’s mug (black with a steam train on it) was pushed out from the other mugs and the handle was turned outwards, towards the cupboard door - I think my grandad wanted a cuppa as well!
Also in my Nana’s bedroom, there a wardrobe that she’s had forever. One of the doors always seems to open slightly on its own. My grandad’s slippers are still in the bottom.
Grandad’s chair was still in the living room up until last year when Nana treated herself to a new three piece suite. If anyone sat in the chair, you’d just get this “feeling” that you should move. When he was alive, Grandad always used to come in and say “Oi! Hop it!” if anyone was sat in his chair. I think he’s still at it now Grin

couple from me.

i lost my dear sis in a car accident in 2004. she was especially close to my son who is autistic and she championed him - thought he was amazing. we did daft things like during a lunar eclipse set our alarms for 2am and got up and rang each other to watch it together and the like.

so when she died i got her coffin covered in stargazer lillies.

3 weeks to the day of her funeral my boy came and woke me up saying he had a message from my sis....he went on to say she had visited him in his dream and some stuff that he could not possibly have known - she and my then dh had had a row some months previous which was completely out of character for them both but they hadnt spoken since) she said she was sorry for the argument with dh. she said she was at peace and happy and that i would always remain very special to her. she sent a message of love really - and she said she loved the choice of flowers. my ds regaled this is a very matter of fact way .he also said she looked "like the old A*" - she had been very ill with depression and lost loads of weight and he described what she wore - it was an outfit i recognised. it gave me such comfort to think she was ok.

the only other weird but not ghostly experience i had was when i was 10. i never used to draw the curtains to sleep and one night i watched an orange light move across the sky. i got out of bed and even opened my window to watch it until it got out of my eyeline. i got back into bed and just minutes later a large triangular shaped orange glowing aircraft twisted silently over the tree line and hovered for about 30 seconds above the trees. it made no noise at all and was huge. it lifted vertically and then was gone.

i might have thought i was dreaming except the night after in the local evening press it appeared the workforce of the local chocolate factory also saw it as they were leaving their shift at 10pm....

no idea what it was. it was fast. it was silent. i was bright orange. it was a clear triangular shape. it was the size of a plane. it had engines on the base. i drew a picture of it and still have it to this day.
this was over the skies of York in 1982.

coppercolouredtop · 10/01/2019 21:29

The oddest thing just happened as I finished that post. My computer screen went black and white lines then the while computer shut off and restarted. 😱. Weird!

PlumpSyrianHamster · 10/01/2019 21:39

I'm watching Haunted Hospitals right now.

StrangeButTrue12 · 10/01/2019 21:47

coppercolouredtop · 10/01/2019 21:57

Clearly I've missed that is there more than me saw my big orange triangle?? What have I missed??

My dad died 2 and a half years ago. He had had cancer for a long time and passed away at about 9.30am on my birthday.

I went back home in the afternoon and was trying to take it all in when I got a notification on my FB that he had updated his profile picture ‘to one with me’. It was a photo of me and my dad on my wedding day. It was 3.30pm and the only people that knew he had died at that point was my mum and two brothers.

My mum and one brother have never even used the internet and when I told the other brother he was shocked (I know he would never do something like that himself) and he contacted FB to try and find out who had logged into his account (he was really angry, like me, thinking someone had access to his account!).

FB wouldn’t tell us due to privacy reasons and then memorialised his account.

The thing is my dad would never have given his password to anyone (he didn’t even speak to that many people) and there is no way anyone else could have accessed his account. And even if they did, why would they update his profile picture to one with me on my wedding day on the day he died?!

I’ve really never believed in anything woo at all and have researched high and low to see if there is an app that could update a profile picture in the future and I have never been able to find one (and I’m a lot more computer savvy than my dad was!). He was so ill for months before, he would have had to arranged it so long ago even if he did think to do that.

About 6 months later I saw a psychic and actually tried to get her to talk about a friend I had lost a few months after my dad but she kept talking about my dad though (I hadn’t given any info away and I’m fairly young to lose a parent). So I asked her if he could say anything about the weird thing that happened on the day he died. She said it was something to do with computers or phones and that he was trying to send me a message to let me know that he was okay.

I like to think of it as a parting birthday gift from my dad even though I wouldn’t normally believe in things like that but I am still absolutely baffled by it all to this day.

StrangeButTrue12 · 10/01/2019 22:13

There was a couple of stories about large black silent triangles hovering over woods earlier @coppercolouredtop!

coppercolouredtop · 10/01/2019 22:20

Oh! Tho mine wasn't black it was bright orange. Didn't read those!

Jody21 · 11/01/2019 12:35

Not my story but been told about it happening to my mum.

When I was a baby my parents had a highchair for me that could be converted into a swing by removing a few smalls bolts. It was passed on to my brother who was two years younger than me. At some point the frame got damaged so that it was fine when it was just a standing highchair but when they converted it to the swing it was bent and would swing at a slight angle. This caused it to graze against the frame and apparently it made a distinctivly annoying noise so was hardly ever used as a swing for my brother.

One night while my father was away my mums brother was staying with us as she didn't like to stay alone with two small kids. After they had all gone to bed they started to hear the noise of the swing moving in the kitchen (it had been set at the highchair setting - not swing).
My mum made my uncle get up to see what was going on as she was too creeped out to go and look herself. He went down and found it swinging and put bolts back in to make it stop. He had a look around but seeing nothing he told my mum that a neighbours cat must have come in the kitchen window and jumped up on the chair to set it swinging (no explanation for how it changed setting!) and the cat must have gone back out the open window when he heard someone come downstairs. He locked the window and went back to bed. Ten mins later my mum hears the noise again, she gets my uncle up again for back up and this time both of them go down. Chair is still swinging but the room is empty! Totally creeped out by now they totally dismantle the chair, remove the seat entirely and head back to bed. Short while later the noise starts up again! My uncle refuses to go back downstairs and they spend the night in the one room with me and my baby brother in between them for safekeeping! They said they went down next morning to find chair in one piece (not as they left it). Needless to say they left the chair outside to be dumped straight away. My parents moved shortly after that.

I've had quite a few things happen to me and people that I know.

I work in a school and lots of strange things have happened recently. This could be quite outing as all staff know about these things... A member of staff had someone grab her round the waist when she was at the photocopier and there was no one else in the room. Shutters on the canteen bang as if someone is thumping on them. I've seen a dark shadow go into the ladies toilets and no one there when I went in. Another member of staff saw someone walk past windows in a door when no one else was in the building. Another member of staff was looking for a specific piece of equipment in the stock cupboard and couldn't find it. Myself and someone else turned to help her and when we turned round to look at the (previously empty) table the specific thing we were looking for was in the middle of the table.

When I was a teenager we stayed in a house in Dartmouth and went out for dinner one evening, leaving drinks and snacks on the kitchen table but tidy. When we came back it was all spilled on the table and other food which had been in cupboards before we left was spread out too, the place was a mess. We started to tidy it and the front door started rattling in it's frame like someone was trying to get in and we have never packed up and left a place so fast in our lives. At the time my parents told us someone must have broken in and that was why we were leaving but afterwards they said they had seen black shapes 'chasing' us to the car... Terrifying!

nowshesaturtle · 14/01/2019 15:42

Livingthedream12345 · 18/02/2019 07:06

Years ago I was working at an old building for the day. I was standing in the car park, near my car, looking up at the building. Out the corner of my eye I saw what looked like a bin bag blowing in the wind and it went underneath the back of my car on the right hand side. When I got in my car later to go home the brakes didn't work. Organised break down truck to get to garage. The brake cable was broken on that side.....
