I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

I usually catch these things on camera! Once took about ten pics of laughing baby neice, in one was a large orb with distinct man features, moustache etc. Turns out to be a look a like of her grandad who died that year. After a recent miscarriage I was messing about at work with new phone took a selfie in the window, got a crystal clear budda shape on my shoulder, at closer inspection you could see a pregnant lady with bump, I then was pregnant the next month. And in March this year checked the cctv outside and saw a "smokey" looking thing walk straight towards our house, what was creepy (you could say condensation or something) but you can make out head, legs moving and the hands moved up as to push the door open. Must figure out how to upload these.

From when I was a little girl my Grandma always told me that she would leave her bedroom furniture to me. It is lovely. Solid wood 3 door wardrobe, tallboy, dressing table, headboard, stool, chairs and bedside cabinets. I regularly slept in her room from being about 3.

She died when I was 16 so the bedroom furniture stayed in her's and my Granddad's house until I was ready to move it until I got my own house when I was 21.

We went to collect it, after my Graddad said he was ready for us to take it. We dismantled it as best we could and reassembled it in our bedroom. And then I had the most horrific and terrifying sensation whilst I was putting stuff away in it. I legged it downstairs and couldn't go back upstairs to the loo without DP coming with me. I have never felt anything so terrifying before or since. It was horrible.

About 6 months later I went to see a local medium with a work colleague. I didn't believe, it was just a bit of fun. Until she said "your Grandma didn't mean to frighten you in your bedroom, she just wanted to let you know that she loves you" Shock Shock Shock

@NoNoCharlieRascal that’s so nice that you wanted to cuddle your ghost dog :)

NC because this is very outing.
When I was a teenager (I'm mid 40s now) me and my friends were quite into doing ouiji board. My granny had showed my sister and then and me when I was older how to do it safely. She was very into spiritualism.

I don't so much believe in ghost but think ouiji board worked because of energy that we as teenagers were creating.

8 of us were at a friends house in his bedroom. 4 of us decided to do ouiji board so we set the scrabble letters out, lit a candle, got matches to burn, a glass with water (all to do with cleaning the glass after) and an empty glass to put our fingers on. After a while of "playing" and asking a few questions one of our friends (relatively new to the group) suggested we do a seance. He said he knew how to.

I don't remember all the details but here's the ones I do:

4 people round the table were really hot....sweat dripping off us.
4 people observing were freezing cold.
Upside down glass started moving rapidly on its own on the table.
Candle flame was burning at an angle. No windows open, no breeze.
Water started to appear on scrabble letter. Spelling out "dwarf."
Water started to fill up in upside down glass.
A friends chair that he was sitting on started to tilt forward. It took 2 strong lads to try and hold it down.
We were all terrified at this point and I was saying the Lord's Prayer in my head. The table started to move away from me and ended up pinning another friend in the corner.
At the start of this the friend who was "leading" the seance has stressed it was important not to break the circle (we were holding hands.) You can imaging that was challenging given the moving chair and table!

When I got home after a very scary walk home in the dark, went to bed.
My bedside light started flickering. Probably a loose connection but oh my god I was so scared.

Thingsthatgoflump · 03/09/2018 23:06

Another ouiji board one.
We used to regularly get the same "spirit." He told us his name, his age and that's he was a gunner in the German army. He said he hadn't died in the war. Which we thought was a bit odd that we were speaking with a German given we were in Scotland.
Many years later I learned that very nearby there had been a prisoner of war camp with many German soldiers. Gave me chills.

These are great!

Reggie24 · 03/09/2018 23:24

My dh dad passed away when he was 11. Our daughter (2) obviously never met him, we hadn’t shown her any photos of him or anything and she is too little to really understand.
We recently framed a photo of his dad and I held it up to my dd and said “who’s that ?”
She answered “grandad”
I also worked in a nursery that was in a really old huge house and all sorts of strange things happened. Including a wooden block hitting me on the head, despite there being no one behind me, a little boy pointed and said “her did it” but there was no one there.
The cleaner also reported that every single tap in the children’s bathroom would turn on whilst she was cleaning, when she was the only person in the building.

TooManyPaws · 03/09/2018 23:28

flump, nowhere near Comrie was it? When I was in the reserves, our TA colleagues would tell us how spooky Cultybraggan was. Of course, there was at least one infamous murder there when it was a PoW camp.

vampirethriller · 03/09/2018 23:35

My sister says she sees me when I'm not there. When she was little/younger she used to see me in our garden or going upstairs, for example, but when she looked again I wasn't there.
She's just spent the weekend with me and took my dog a walk. Came back inside and asked what was I doing out on the hill by the house waving? I was inside, in the kitchen.

Mrsfs · 03/09/2018 23:36

There has been a few things happen over the years. When I was younger, I was laying on my bed and saw a figure standing at the bottom, clear as day. It happened a few times over the course of a few months so I told my parents. My dad asked me to draw him, he also drew a figure. They were the same, right down to the golden buttons on his waistcoat. Apparently, my dad had met this figure on a walk along the back roads near where we lived about six months before. He said they passed, nodded hello and kept walking. He had a strange feeling so turned around and they were gone. The road is just a long straight, clear road with a fields, there is no where they could have gone.

When I was 16, I was house-sitting for my gran, she had dogs and was on holiday. The house is an old school house. There was always a spooky feel to it but nothing I could put my finger on. Sitting in the living room, the dogs started growling and I could hear steps outside in the hall, going upstairs and above my head. The dogs relaxed when it stopped. That same night, the dogs were getting quite edgy in bed, I left the lamp on next to my bed, I eventually fell asleep. I woke up and the door, a very big, heavy door, was wide open, my lamp was off. I called my mum and she came and stayed.

LeftRightCentre · 03/09/2018 23:40

YES! I love these threads. We stayed in a holiday cottage that was weirdy!

BeenThereDone · 03/09/2018 23:45

OK I had dreams literally come true both good and bad....

However there is one thing that happens to me on a regular basis that has always always manifested itself to be true. It used to bother me but now I use it as a kind of preparation... Be aware if u like.

I could be at home, work, out with friends, away on holidays literally anytime time of day or night....
I get that hospital smell, you know that quite distinctive antiseptic smell and garunteed never ever fails, I or someone I love will be in hospital within three days....

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/09/2018 00:03

I had a dream that I was under murky water it was moving very quickly and bits of debris floating everywhere seaweed, mud and bits of wood but through the murkiness I could see the sun shinning really brightly and I wasn’t cold I remember knowing it was hot where I was

I woke up in a cold sweat

A while later switched the TV on to see the Tsunami and my phone I had a number of missed calls from my brother and other family saying they couldn’t get hold of my dad he was in Sri Lanka

Thankfully he was ok he was caught up in it but mangaged to scrabble to a roof top thankfully no one in my family was seriously hurt

I still remember the dream very vividly. My dad doesn’t really talk about what happened in detail so don’t know if it was his experience but he did say that morning he went to the beach very early and remembered thinking it was so utterly peaceful

adpnausea · 04/09/2018 00:33

Was walking to meet a friend last summer and took a back road to main road for bus stop, via three farms (very rural). Very hot day. Silent as no cars etc - villages are 2 miles apart and just fields, a church and 3 farms in between (northern Scotland). Area has had houses and church at least 200-250 years.

Anyway, walking alone past farmhouse 1, heard a twig snap so turned around and saw a child peeking out from behind a tree in front garden, looking at me. Hair and clothing from 70s or earlier - flares, poloneck and bowl cut. I blinked, looked again and no child at all and no way they could have disappeared unseen. Funny thing is there's a ruined tree house in the garden but its obviously gone unused for 30 odd years. I was probably dreaming but it spooked me!

Thingsthatgoflump · 04/09/2018 01:09

@toomanypaws
No, it was in the Scottish Borders. The old POW camp building is now a hotel.
I had no idea we had pow camps in Scotland!

Thingsthatgoflump · 04/09/2018 01:18

Realising I have loads of heebie jeebie stories Grin

I was involved in a car crash (with some of the same people from ouiji board/seance stuff.)

We stopped so driver could pop into see friend briefly. He forgot to switch headlights on. We crashed through a wall into someone's garden.
Just before the moment of impact I dropped my wallet and leant forward to pick it up. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt (legal back then.) So instead of being thrown over the front passengers seat I was thrown into the back of his seat and suffered a concussion and bruising.
I told my mum a few days later and she said that just before the accident she was suddenly really worried about me and so phoned her prayer circle asking them to pray for me.
The driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt either and somehow managed to grip the steering wheel so hard he bent the steering column.
We were very lucky.
I'm not religious at all but totally believe that all these folks praying kept us from a serious incident.

Medwaymumoffour · 04/09/2018 01:22

Another shameless placemark here.

We are converting a fairly modern house built on chapel land. Just dug up some new foundations. The house is empty while we do the building work. Me and dh was standing on the landing a few nights back and both clearly heard someone say goodbye. Through closed double glazed windows. Next doors front door is ten metres or more around the other side of the house and the other neighbours house only has the end of the garden by our landing. It was pitch black.
However the house feels very welcoming a happy place.
Still it was weird. I’m terrified the builders will dig up some graves

JellieEllie · 04/09/2018 01:23

I used to always have a dream about this bloke that came to stand by the side of my bed in my dream. I could never work out who he was but in my dream I always felt terrified of him and could sense he was stood there, not doing anything at all. Just watching me. I would always wake up really suddenly and sweating.
One night I was having this dream and for some reason this time I woke up (in my dream) and watched this man let himself into my bedroom and stand at the end of the bed with his hand held out for me as if he wanted to take me somewhere. I remember that the awake me in the dream was watching the asleep me get up and crawl to the end of the bed and reach my own hand out as if to go with him. Then I woke up suddenly again sweating and panicking. I managed to get back to sleep but then the next morning when I woke up my partner at the time was already awake sat up against the pillows.
He said he had an awful dream the night before where he had woken up and seen a man at the end of the bed trying to take my hand and take me away with him.
I have absolutely no idea to this day why or how that happened as I had never spoke to him before about the dream I had. All I know is he had seen the man in his own dream and so had I.
I have never ever had that dream again since that night.

JellieEllie · 04/09/2018 01:26

I also woke up one morning to a lot of missed calls from a relative which gave me a really uneasy feeling. I rang her back expecting to hear the worst only for her to say she was just ringing to see if I fancied going for lunch that day and needed to know if I would be free from a certain time.
I told her I had panicked thinking she was going to tell me my nan had died and she went a bit mad at me and chastised me for saying such a thing.

I shit you not only an hour later another relative called me to tell me that nan had died that morning. The first thing my relative said to me when I called her was "how did you know"
Just to add more weight to it; my nan had not been ill and was relatively young and healthy. It was a tragic accident that had killed her so I had no way of knowing or expecting it.

Haireverywhere · 04/09/2018 01:27

I am a complete idiot. Haven't been able to get to sleep yet so have been on MN for distraction and just thought oooh this thread is right up my street.

Totally shitting it now!

adpnausea · 04/09/2018 01:31

Hair I am the same... been up sick with new meds and now scared to look around me haha. Hoping I nod off soon.

SecretWitch · 04/09/2018 03:08

Not paranormal but still creeps me out.
Woke up from a sound sleep to hear heavy footsteps in our living room, followed by the sound of cabinet doors being opened and closed. Terror gripped me as as our young dd’s bedroom is on the other side of the living room. I woke my husband up and told him what was going on. We heard the sound of furniture being moved..he was up and moving out of our room, telling me to open our gun safe and remove our gun. I reached over and removed the weapon and began loading the gun and waited.........
Our bedroom door opened and I whispered to my husband if he needed the gun. He replied “What??!!” I said “ The gun! Who is out there?”

I had been dreaming. My husband had gotten out of the bed to use the loo and I dreamt the entire break in episode.
Our gun safe is in our closet, not bedside, it remained untouched the entire time.
I still think about this all the time. It was so vivid, the fear so real.
