I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

Had a very upsetting breakup in my late teens with a lad who was certainly my first love, and I his. We lived very close to each other in the years that followed, and so would see each other often but would not speak/look away etc. One evening, I saw him in the local pub as I had dozens and dozens of times in the years gone by, but for some reason, we ended up chatting. We had a really lovely evening together, put our differences aside and made our peace with each other. We talked about loads of things that night, including an Annie Lennox song that was on an album I’d bought him that we often listened to together as teenagers. Wasn’t a song that was released as a single, and as Annie Lennox songs go, was definitely a more obscure one.

We ended the night with a kiss and swapped numbers. I woke up the next morning to find out from a friend that he had died about half an hour after we left each other in a car accident. I was the last person to see him alive.

It really felt like fate had intervened to give us the opportunity to make things right.

That evening I was laid on the floor at home, feeling so sad and shocked. My dog laid on the remote control next to me and landed straight on a music channel (hadn’t been watching music stations), and on the screen came the Annie Lennox song we had been talking about the night before. May be just conincidence, but it’s always felt like more than that to me

Love all of these creepy stories! Especially the one about the evil beings in the forest. Always gives me chills because I have a forest behind the house.
I grew up in a house that was 'active.' It was semi-detached, so sometimes there were no explanations for some of the noises coming from the detached side. I used to hear footsteps as if someone was walking around upstairs and I always felt uncomfortable whenever I went upstairs - at any time of day. At the top of the stairs there was a long corridor and I remember always looking to the left of it when I would get to the top and I would sense that something was there. I would have to leg it to my room on the right hand and as I did so, I would sense something watching me.
There were some occasions when my parents experienced odd things, but they never told me exactly what, as they tried to shrug it off as coincidences. I remember once waking up in the middle of the night and seeing my parents searching under my bed and in my wardrobe because they had heard something run from the left hand side of the corridor and into my room.

I love these...why oh why did i make this my bedtime reading last night though?😱

I have one....happened when i went to visit my sister and her then DP, they lived in a flat in an old tenement.

I was on the sofa trying to drop off.. rolled over and looked across the room and could see the shape of a man sitting on one of the dining chairs with his head in his hands ....i was terrified but tried to put it down to my eyes playing tricks on me, different sleeping arrangements, not used to it etc...spent the rest of the night sweating under my quilt though!

The next morning i mentioned this to my sister, trying to make light of how daft i was hiding under the covers...she went a bit quiet and then told me she had seen this man too (definitely not her DP) but didn't mention it as she didn't want me to be frightened and not visit! She had woken up in the night several times to see a very sad and lost looking young man standing next to her bed, staring at her and then disappearing!! 😨

I also have a "good" paranormal experience which I still get goosebumps about and I am so so grateful for:

I feel a very warm and safe atmosphere in the house I live in with my husband. I occasionally sense another entity here - but I believe it's a good one. One time it saved us from a very big disaster.

It was a night when my husband was away on a work trip. I had turned things off downstairs and headed upstairs to go to sleep. I was absolutely exhausted and I collapsed into bed. When I'm exhausted, I can fall asleep in about a minute, so it's incredibly difficult to get back out. However, as I lay in bed, I heard a very soft knocking sound. I ignored it because I didn't sense anything sinister and I was like, cba. Then I heard it again - it was a knocking on my bedroom door. I felt compelled to get up and go downstairs. I can't explain why - because I had no reason to think I needed to - there were no sounds coming from downstairs. I didn't feel scared at all. It's as if my mind just became alert and told me to go downstairs.
When I got downstairs, I heard a rushing noise which sounded like water. I thought my cat must have accidentally nudged the kitchen tap. As I got closer to the kitchen, the noise became louder, but the tap was switched off. So I went past the kitchen into the utility room and that's where the noise was coming from. I looked down at the floor and a pipe had burst - water was gushing out at full speed and covering the floor at shocking speed. I legged it outside, yanked open this metal covering on the pavement outside our house and turned off the water stopcock. After mopping up the water, I called the local plumber. I apologised profusely for calling at such a late hour (it was around midnight), but he was really kind and told me that since the water supply was cut off, he would be with me at 9am the next morning.
When the plumber arrived, he saw the burst pipe and told me that when it was fitted, it was done incorrectly and it was a disaster waiting to happen. If I had gone to sleep, within a few hours the whole of the downstairs of the house would have been flooded.
I really do believe that there is a kind entity that is with us at times in our home. There have been other things that I feel it has helped with - but that was the most incredible of them all.

DF died. We were very close and it was me that had the discussion with him about what was to happen after his death.
I was driving home from the hospital talking out loud about what was to happen and was l making the correct decisions. Then sensed my dad's "smell" and heard him say YES very loudly. I actually turned around expecting him to be in the back of the car.
Strangely l then felt totally at peace with my decisions

There have been a few other times l am sure that he is about. My family say l have always been a bit "fey" nothing exciting but knowing things/events/deaths before they are announced. DH wishes l could know the lottery numbers Grin

Nick Pope had the job I really wanted in the MOD, I kept watching for it to be advertised internally. Then I heard it had been disestablished, so UFO hunter no more (at least officially).

overnightangel · 04/09/2018 19:48

Banterlope · 04/09/2018 20:31

@overnightangel he was a good bloke, understood the bizarre nature of his job while keeping an open mind about the various things he had to investigate, I liked him. Good sense of humour as I recall

Banterlope · 04/09/2018 20:33

oops, that was meant for @MulticolourMophead soz

A couple of things happened when we (me, DH DB and DM) were staying in a fairly isolated cottage some years ago.

Part of the cottage was quite old and there was a modern bit built on.

First thing that happened, DH and my room was in the old part. In bed in the early hours I thought I heard footsteps coming up to our door and stopping outside. Did not get up to investigate, TBH can’t be sure I wasn’t dreaming.

Second thing - DM said she’d heard someone in the kitchen in the night. She asked DB if it was him and he said no. DM could have dreamt this, could have been an early dementia sign, or it might have been DB winding her up saying it wasn’t him when it was.

Third thing - we were all sitting having dinner one evening in the newer part of the cottage when the closed door to the kitchen rattled. Our first thought was that the dog had got shut in there but no she was lying under the table apparently unconcerned. It was a still night and no windows open in the kitchen. I later found out that the cottage was in a hotspot for minor earth tremors.

So all explicable, but I still wouldn’t go back there.

Prestonsflowers · 04/09/2018 20:43

@Restlessinthenorth
My heart goes out to you, such a sad story and ending.

Oldaintallthat · 04/09/2018 20:47

WARNING: You could lose many, many hours down these Reddit rabbit holes? I wont be reading MN for quite a while

@Secretwitch That is creepy as hell...

Standstilling · 04/09/2018 20:56

@RightYes You’re welcome and thanks for the Left Right game!

RightYesButNo · 04/09/2018 21:07

@overnightangel Thanks for asking! The news wasn’t great BUT not as bad as I feared - a neuromuscular condition is affecting my ability to breathe but it looks like they may be able to control it with medication, hopefully. And this thread definitely helped distract me Smile

flump Cultybraggan was a "black" camp, where they sent the worst Nazis. There were, I believe, two actual murders there. The most notorious one was an anti-Nazi who had been sent to the camp by mistake was hauled before a kangaroo court of his fellow prisoners and then hung in a shower block. The five PoW murderers were tried at the Old Bailey and hanged at Pentonville. After the war it became an army camp and most still remains, quite a bit A and B listed. It's also quite notoriously haunted; one investigation team said that it was the most active place they'd been to and ghost tours were run this summer.

There are a lot of army stories about the old German army barracks and family quarters around the former concentration camps - try www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/haunted-barracks.1508/

Nodancingshoes · 04/09/2018 21:19

I think I have had a premonition dream if that counts?? Years ago - pre 9/11 - I had a very distressing dream about walking between two tall skyscrapers and having people falling all around me... It dawned on me just after 9/11 what this could have been about. I dream about plane crashes l the time but luckily they don't come true!

My granny was ill for a while following a fall at home, had gone on holiday and our first night there I was really restless, had a bizarre dream about 5 am, talking to my Gran on a really old fashioned mobile phone, like the old brick type, telling her it was ok to go now , woke the next morning, got a phone call to say my Gran had passed at 5.30 that morning

Ledkr · 04/09/2018 21:45

I was at TGI one day with sh and dd who was 5 at the time.
We had paid the bill and were getting ready to go when I suddenly though maybe I'd have a wee before we drove home.
At that moment dd looked at me and said "the loos are over there!"
Another time her food arrived and I thought to myself "she will want ketchup" and she looked at me and nodded!

I have scary ones but dh is on nights so can't bare to tell them

I've told this before. It's just one of the weird things I've experienced over the years.
When I was 8-9 I was playing by myself on the floor of my bedroom. Suddenly the room went pitch black and something hit me on the head. I ran from the room screaming. I ran to my mum who came back to my room with me. The lightbulb had fallen from the light fitting and was stood perfectly upright (on its metal bit) on the rug directly under the fitting. I had been sat in that exact spot. It hit me and bounced. How the fuck did it manage to end up there? My step dad kept trying to recreate the scenario as he was convinced I did it. Even my mum asking him how I'd be able to reach and unclip a hot lightbulb didn't sway him. However he couldn't get the bulb to stand on end again no matter what. A few weeks later I noticed that he wouldn't be alone in the house and would sit in his work van until someone came home. When I got older my mum told me that he was pushed down the stairs backwards, he once came home to find the kettle just finishing boiling, and a face staring at him through the back window. My experience was the limit for him.
