I love these threads, and have my own past favorites (Savernake Forest, etc). I’ve gone through all the old ones, here and on the Unexplained board, and I’ve run out.

Excuses for a new thread: I have a shite-my-pants-terrifying doctor’s appointment tomorrow and could really use the distraction, it felt like autumn outside this morning, and we might have new people on the site to share since the last thread.

So... share your most bizarre and creepy story with us, if you have a moment? Grin

Love love love these!!

I'm pretty sure my house has a resident ghost. Few things that have happened

Spare room light randomly turns on during the night

2DS ran out their room screaming last year they were playing in there ehen lynx can just started spraying. When i went it you could smell it. They wouldn't sleep here for 3 days and stayed at my mom's

We had draws in the bathroom one night DH went to toilet and the draws were emptied all over the floor it was only us in the house.

Went on holiday forgot DS coat it was on the back on the chair in kitchen. My mom was coming round daily to water plants and move post she called to say i have left the coat next day she rang me freaking out asking who else had a key. My mom has one my keys were at home with my car keys and DH had his house key with us i asked why she said the coat was no longer hung on the back of the chair it was laid out over dining table. She didn't comw up by herself after that

About a year ago i was cleaning and DH is a sod for leaving shoes about so i threw them all upstairs onto the landing 4 pairs just chucked them up about half an hour later i was hoverinv the stairs got to the top and all 4 pairs of shoes were placed neatly in pairs next to each other i absolutely shit myself!! I went to my neighbours to ask who lived here before us he said a single mom with 2 kids before that an old couple who had lived here a long time and had both died here but were a lovely couple.

I don't feel threatened here but i feel like I'm being watched like I'll then around and someone will be there so i freeze on the spot it's so weird.

DH has never believed in ghosts but can not explain some of the strange things he's experienced. He got his friend an electrician to check spare room light and it's fine nothing faulty that could make it turn on.

I've never seen a ghost here though

So many typos in that sorry!!

These are all so great so far. You are all wonderful vipers.

Also, I’m an ass for starting the thread and not sharing my own. It’s not inexplicable, but it IS creepy. I have a painful condition so I’m often up about 2 or 3am in a dark apartment (sound travels in here so I’m usually trying to stay as quiet as possible).

In this case, I’d just awakened and gone into the kitchen for a drink of water when I looked out the window. To explain, we live on the fifth floor of an old building and stare across at a few rooftops in an old town area. So I’m sipping water, staring at the thin chimneys across the way, when one of them unbends AND STANDS UP. I nearly dropped my water glass. I’m thinking what the hell reason would someone have for being on the roof at 2am?! Worse, they were dressed completely in black with their face covered; it truly looked like a living shadow. I would have felt like an absolute prat calling the police though and saying, “Yes, excuse me, one of the chimneys just stood up.” There would be no way for a thief to enter any apartments over there so I decided to just pretend I was going crazy and get back in bed and read MN try to sleep again.

Next morning, across from us, someone’s put up a graffiti piece made of black masking tape that says, “NO TIME,” next to the decorative clock on top of the building across from us. All the letters were just slightly too angular and it’s been creeping me out since it went up, and I know I saw the street artist chimney that did it. Grin It’s almost completely gone now from summer storms but the whole thing has just been so damn creepy.

I took a photo, but all that’s left now is the E at the end of “TIME.”

Only last night I woke up with a banging headache. I was lying in bed wondering of we had any paracetamol, and heard clear as anything, someone walk into the room and step on a carrier bag that was on the floor. The cat was sound asleep on the bed and DD was also sound asleep. DH was snoring his head off. I felt so spooked and was terrified to get out of bed but my head was so bad I needed something for it. Worst of all I remembered the only place I knew of there being some paracetamol was the glove compartment of the car so I had to go outside in the dark to get it!!

I have so so many spooky stories that I would love to tell but they'd be so outing because so many people know about them.....

MissionItsPossible · 04/09/2018 13:10

The one about the evil creature in the woods is HORRIFYING 😱 I would have had a nervous breakdown. Did the OP tell the friend, I wonder?

To all those that have seen ghosts, did you know they were ghosts at the time or think that someone had managed to get into your house?

DramaQueenofHighCs · 04/09/2018 13:26

Place marking. I've had a few slightly creepy things happen but nothing that would sound good written down.

Cheeselover23 · 04/09/2018 16:13

This is soooo outing but all of my posts are so oh well.
A nursery I worked at was haunted.
If you went near a specific room you felt like you were being watched constantly and it just felt darker than the other rooms despite it actually being quite light.
One day I mentioned to another staff member how creepy it was and they were shocked Id worked there so long without someone telling me this story.
The story goes that over a hundred years ago there was a very sick child, and unfortunately they died in the building. This was during a time where if a child died their shoes were buried in the floor boards. All was fine and the building carried on serving it's purpose until some renovations were done. The builders were tearing up the floorboards and found the little girls shoes. They threw them away and that's when the trouble started. This little girls spirit was "woken up".
Now I haven't researched if burying shoes under floorboards happened and it's quite possible the story is just that, but there was definitely something wrong with that place. Like I said, there was the feeling in that room, but the staff member who told me the story had seen toys moving on their own, and bikes moving against the wind and zig zagging with the garden empty. Another staff member had a door slam and the handle shake when no one was near it. I myself was once sat outside with the children when the door opened and everyone heard a child running away laughing. We checked the corridor and we counted the children but we weren't missing anyone. A child once went to the doorway of the room (the room is connected to another that the children play in) and said "ghost" and burst into tears and couldn't be comforted. Another time all the children were shouting "let her in" whilst at the window, thinking it was a child at the front door below to be dropped off a staff member went down to let them in and no one was there but still the children shouted it.
I was also on a walk with the children and two staff members and out of the corner of my eye I saw a little girl running around in a lilac dress and plaits in her hair. I again made sure no children were missing and then realised the little girl must have joined us on the trip which I personally love as she's just a normal little girl who wants to play.
Just writing this I get the sense I'm being watched and I have massive goosebumps though.

FairfaxAikman · 04/09/2018 16:31

I used to work in an office that had a large storage area to the back.
The front of the building was bad enough but the rear was just nasty.
It was two flights of stairs to the upper floor but off the first flight was a large open area.
More than once I was "pushed" down the last few steps when leaving. Some time after I left a hidden room was discovered there and once opened activity increased.
On the first floor was an archive - files moved about between visits and more than one staff member found themselves locked in. I hated it so much I refused to go alone.

We lived overseas for a while, initially somewhere hot. At night we would just have a cotton sheet over us, during the night I was aware of OH getting up, going to the loo then coming round to my side of the bed and pulling another cover over me, tucking it round me and patting me on the shoulder. This went on all the time we lived there. We subsequently moved into another flat and we were talking with friends about small acts of kindness. I mentioned this and OH went pale, 'No, I didn't, but you did exactly that to me!' A few years later, in another country, we met a couple who, as it happened, had lived in the same flat earlier than us, her first words were 'Did you get tucked in every night?'. Goose bumps everywhere as I type this.

I’m too much of wuss to read while on my own in the house with dcs

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 04/09/2018 17:13

Whenever I leave the house I leave the tv on for my dog. On more than one occasion I come home to the tv have been switched to a Welsh programme!

Either we have a Welsh ghost or the dog is in fact Welsh! My bet is on the dog, she never listens to me! Grin

LeftRightCentre · 04/09/2018 17:34

We live in a house where a previous occupant hanged himself from the pendant light in the stairway in 1996. His name was Kenny. And I have NO idea how I knew any of that, but talking with neighbours confirmed it.

Just placemarking as I don't think I've got any of my own.

SoozC · 04/09/2018 17:42

I don't think mine was a ghost but I was once stood on a quiet street corner talking on the phone. A man and his son, wearing a red jumper, appeared round the corner and walked diagonally across the street in front of me. I thought nothing of it until a few minutes later when the same man and boy with red jumper crossed the street in exactly the same way in front of me again. I remember explaining this to my friend on the phone at the time, watching them open-mouthed.

Technically they could have gone the long way round without me seeing and repeated their journey, but I was adamant at the time they had done exactly the same thing in exactly the same way and was convinced I was in the Matrix or something!

ladycarlotta · 04/09/2018 17:56

I posted another one on a previous thread, but I had an odd experience lately. Not dramatically spooky but a bit woo.

My grandfather had a stroke back in November and hung on for a long time, although he was not able to move, speak, feed himself etc. It was really awful for him but I could see his stubbornness just blazing away in there. He wanted to live and get better very much, but he contracted pneumonia and then sepsis which really set him back. It started to dawn on us that he wasn't going to recover. Maybe if he'd been a younger man, but he was in his 80s.

One night I lay in bed, and I felt I was 'talking' to him. I told him that we wouldn't put a dog through what he was going through, and that if he wanted to stop fighting that would be OK. We wouldn't blame him.

The next day I got the call to say he was dying, and by the following morning he was gone. I'm sure it was a coincidence, and I was clearly conscious of how untenable his suffering was. But it gave me a little sense of closure in quite a helpless time.

RightYesButNo · 04/09/2018 18:05

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter I love the idea of the Welsh-speaking dog Grin

@Standstilling I love those Reddit threads! The search and rescue one is great. Thanks! Did you read the ones about the Left/Right Game? www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/7asz8x/has_anyone_heard_of_the_leftright_game_part_1/

Mine isn’t as “Woo” as most of them but still odd.
I had a dream about 3 years ago about the brother of a lad I went to school with, this was about 15 years after I’d last seen him and he hadn’t crossed my mind since.
I was in the city centre where I live (small city) the next afternoon, and it suddenly popped into my head “I’m going to bump into *Chris S. today, literally 30 seconds later he walked right past me and said “Alright overnightangel!” I was Shock
Very odd

Banterlope · 04/09/2018 18:17

I used to work on a paranormal/UFO hunter/woo magazine in the 90s when X Files was a thing, and met all the big names in the game – Guy Lyon Playfair (Enfield poltergeist investigator), Nick Pope (UFO investigator for the MoD), Barney and Betty Hill (well, mainly Betty as he died in 69, although apparently that isn't always an obstacle to meeting someone)/Travis Walton/Whitley Strieber/Hilary Porter (UFO abductees), and I was lucky enough to go to Roswell in New Mexico for the 50th anniversary of the alleged UFO incident there (was stuffed to the gunnels with nutters).

At the time, being in the right place at the right time with a functioning camera was highly unusual, hence all the ephemeral/dodgy/ambiguous/rubbish photos we've all seen. I find it unusual that today we all have high resolution cameras on our phones on us all the time but there still aren't any (many?) photos that are not open to interpretation.

As I was always skeptical and equipped with a very sharp Occam's Razor (I never once heard a claim that didn't sound a bit sketchy), one explanation I heard for the abundance of UFO sightings was the squiggles on your eye's vitreous humour – they look like transparent worms in your line of sight but disappear when you try to focus on them. As I recall they're called 'floaters' (science, bitch) and are comprised of protein deposits or something maybe it was semen? and these were mistaken for alien invasion/woo encounters/blah/etc.

Anyway, point being there's often an explanation that hasn't been considered and spooky bollocks doesn't actually exist other than our capacity for imagination when under stress.
