To think dd18 is acting like a spoilt brat?

We've driven for hours and hours to get to France. We've been lent a lovely house by a friend. The three dcs have all run in very excited as there are four en suite bedrooms. Dd18 got the last one left - it's lovely, pretty with an ensuite shower. But it has twin beds. All the others are doubles. She's thrown an almighty strop and is refusing to talk to us. Dh offered her a beer and she's actually flounced out into a random French town.

In every holiday she's ever been on shes got the 'best' room in account of being the oldest. AIBU to think she should just cheer the hell up? And if so, any tips on dealing with a vile tempered teen for a week?? Confused

Yeah she’s acting spoilt.

If she’s always had the pick of the rooms it’s time to let her siblings take first dibs.

I hope the strop is short lived and it doesn’t ruin your holiday!

Ignore her. She's an adult and can now enjoy her holiday alone.
Don't pander to her. Don't coddle her and no not chase her!

Continue if she weren't there.
If her attitude doesn't change don't include her in any activities or money spent.

She wants to sulk she can sulk.

Ach just leave her to have a strop. You snooze you lose and she can't always get the best room. If she is going off to uni soon she will soon be thinking this room was the epitome of luxury!

Excellent way to manage her emotions. Remove them. Just carry on having a lovely holiday regardless.

YANBU. How old are the other DC? If she's desperate she could push the beds together. She is old enough to strop off into town, as long as she doesn't expect any money for food/entertainment whilst stropping.

Just ignore it. Shut her down if she starts bitching later and tell her it is what it is, she can choose to let it ruin her holiday if she wishes, no reason why the rest of you should suffer.

The beds are pushed together. Others are 15 and 12.

Why does she need a double bed? Has she brought a partner? (She is going to get a shock at university if she expects a double to be provided just for her!)

Yes he’s being a bit spoilt but I can see why she’d be pissed off at 12 year old getting a bigger bed. Unless the 12 year old is bigger than her and deserves it due to size.

The fact that everyone else has, and she doesn’t, probably irks the most.

Tbh I really wanted dd15 to get a lovely room (hers is exactly the same as dd18 but a double) as she's been ill, she suffers from anxiety and never moans about dd18 always getting her way. Dh and I are going for a walk ;-)

I think it's a bit off to expect an 18 year old woman to sleep in a single bed ahead of a 12 year old child-Why did You encourage them run in and grab any bedroom? I assume you and hubby have the "master"? Surely you would all.have gone in and have a look around and then allocated rooms?

At 18 id have probably flounced too tbh!

My ds 17 would have kicked off if dd 12 had got a double and he hadn't.

Enjoy the rest of the day and ignore her behaviour.

Why should she get the best room just because of her age?

Mammy. I’m assuming it’s a holiday paid for by her parents and getting a free holiday as an adult, regardless of the size of the bed is a bit of a treat.

When i go to my parents villa with them, despite paying for most of the holiday I sleep in a single bed when I have a glorious king size bed at home that I’m used to.

She needs to grow up. Ridiculous behaviour. She doesn't get first dibs on everything just because she's the oldest. Ignore ignore ignore.

A single 18yo doesn't need a double bed any more than a 15yo. Besides, she has, effectively, a superking.

Why? Does physical decrepitude due to age set in as early as 18 these days? Surely when we are talking about young healthy people, taking turns would be the sensible decision? It's not a child's bed, so no reason it wouldn't be adequate for a young adult.

Not to mention the fact, that the OP has now told us that the younger child has been ill, so could presumably do with a bit more cossetting.

I agree with pp that the sensible thing to do is to ignore her and get on with enjoying your holiday.

I would expect the 12 year old to be in a single over the 18 year old.
