WIBU to ask for more chips?

We were supposed to be having salad tonight for tea but I —accidentally— ate most of the baby plum tomatoes this morning, so my penance was to pick up a chippy tea on the way home. It wasn’t busy, only one person in being detected when I got there. I ordered a fish butty for DP and a chip butty for me (no kids). I paid £6 all together (live in Yorkshire) and this is all I got!!

The chippy is local, and usually much more generous than this.

Was I being unreasonable to drive back to the chippy, via the bloody temporary traffic lights to ask where the rest of my chips were?

Doesn’t look like much. I get much more than that at mine!

ImAGoofyGoober · 07/08/2018 18:31

Yanbu! That is a pitiful amount of chips.

Frouby · 07/08/2018 18:32

Yanbu.

I once treated myself to a chip butty for lunch. Walked all the way up a big bastarding hill, got my buttie, got it home and there were 6 bloody chips.

I was mightily pissed off but CBA to walk back up big bastarding hill pushing dd in her pram so phoned and complained instead. Chippy owner very sorry, took my address when I said I wouldnt walk back up and brought me a chip butty crammed with chips AND a big piece of fish. AND large peas AND curry sauce because he didn't know what I would prefer.

I was skint at the time and it was a bloody treat.

Moltenpink · 07/08/2018 18:34

@Frouby that’s a very happy story! Love it when businesses put things right like that.

MammaSchwifty · 07/08/2018 18:35

Aside from the amount.... what happened to it? Did they dropkick it into the paper then slam-dunk it on to the counter??

Loopylou6 · 07/08/2018 18:35

I wouldn't have been arsed driving back there, but omg they look delicious, I REALLY want a chip butty now, and I was really looking forward to my corned beef salad butty.
Thanks for ruining my tea op Grin

TedAndLola · 07/08/2018 18:36

The sandwich is filled with chips. Did you expect to get a portion on the side as well?

I've never ordered a chip sandwich but I would expect to get what you got.

HappyEverIftar · 07/08/2018 18:37

What happened? Did they give you more?

KatyaZamolodchikova · 07/08/2018 18:37

Yes, well I did go back (despite DP thinking it was an overreaction) only to be told, that they’ve been told to cut down on chip portions! That’s not a chip portion! They haven’t cut down on prices though.

She gave me another scoop then quite pointedly asked if I was happy now. TBH I wasn’t really, but it was as good as I was going to get. Won’t be going there again.

That looks like a sufficient amount of chips for the size of the roll.

Very unappealing though. Not even any curry sauce :-(

DickensianHysteric · 07/08/2018 18:38

Admittedly I've never had a chip butty, but that looks like plenty of chips to me. I don't see how you could fit more in the roll? Or are you meant to have more on the side too? Maybe I will have to go out and get myself one for research purposes.

ImAGoofyGoober · 07/08/2018 18:39

How much was the chip butty? How much is a portion of chips?

KatyaZamolodchikova · 07/08/2018 18:40

Hahaha, @MammaSchwifty she sort of rolled it all up, like a Swiss roll, rather than wrapping it, which initially alerted me to the idea there might be something wrong, as she shouldn’t have been able to do that with a proper size chip butty.

OP YANBU. Their chip to bread ratio is totally off. Poor show.

fairgame84 · 07/08/2018 18:41

YWNBU at all. I also live in Yorkshire and a chip butty usually has a breadcake rammed with chips then another scoop on the side.

A regular portion of chips at our local chippy serves 2 people. Chip shop portions are supposed to be huge!

jaseyraex · 07/08/2018 18:41

YANBU. Every chippy I've ever been to give you enough to fill the roll and basically another portion on the side.

Bramble71 · 07/08/2018 18:42

If you think the portion is stingy, get back there now!!

TheQueef · 07/08/2018 18:42

I can't even look at that.

No scraps?

Chip butty my arse.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 07/08/2018 18:43

I don't think that's too bad for a chip butty. It would be awful for a portion of chips though...

QuitMoaning · 07/08/2018 18:44

How much was it and how much is a portion of chips?

SleepyMcEdie · 07/08/2018 18:46

It depends on what you ordered-

A chip butty? Or a portion of chips with a side of cob?

For a chip butty I would say that’s standard. Enough chips to fill the cop and that’s all. You wouldn’t order a ham sandwich and expect to get a plate of ham on the side as well would you?

However if it’s meant to be a portion of chips and then you paid for a cob as side order then YANBU.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/08/2018 18:48

I think it looks about enough for the roll, but whenever I've bought that I've got a whole portion of chips. I don't eat them all though.

MadMags · 07/08/2018 18:48

Is it supposed to come with a full portion of chips? That looks loads to me for a bread roll!

KatyaZamolodchikova · 07/08/2018 18:48

Chip butty costs a portion of chips

  • 50p for the bread. I don’t know how much that actually is because I just pay for the whole lot. It used to be £5.40 for one fish butty & one chip butty but it recently went up to £6. I think it’s probably around the £2.10 mark for just the chip butty, give it take?
