WIBU to ask for more chips?

We were supposed to be having salad tonight for tea but I —accidentally— ate most of the baby plum tomatoes this morning, so my penance was to pick up a chippy tea on the way home. It wasn’t busy, only one person in being detected when I got there. I ordered a fish butty for DP and a chip butty for me (no kids). I paid £6 all together (live in Yorkshire) and this is all I got!!

The chippy is local, and usually much more generous than this.

Was I being unreasonable to drive back to the chippy, via the bloody temporary traffic lights to ask where the rest of my chips were?

This is why I get chips and make my own! Get a lovely huge portion for £3, couple of slices of cheap white bread and butter... food of the gods!

They use marg on the buns at my local one... MARG!! Has to be BUTTER FFS!

SisterNotCisTerf · 07/08/2018 19:59

This is an full size portion of popcorn chicken from my local chippy. It was £3.20!!

Also, a chip sandwich is also a thing, but it’s not the same. A chip sandwich is a single layer of cooked frozen chips, piping hot and in between two over buttered slices of regular bread.

Chip shop chips & mushy pea (in a home made) sarnie with either curry sauce and/or gravy to dip into yum.

ChopChipCookies · 07/08/2018 20:00

Has to be BUTTER FFS!

Definitely!

checkingforballoons · 07/08/2018 20:01

Scraps also aren’t a thing here.
It’s a wonder he married me after embarrassing himself in so many chip shops.

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/08/2018 20:03

I'd get a dry breadcake and use my own butter at home because I don't trust them not to use marg even if they say it's butter, in chip shops and sandwich shops that's almost always a lie.

TheDairyQueen · 07/08/2018 20:03

YABU in using the term "chippy tea". I fucking hate that term, and the use of "tea" for evening meal. They're both grim.

However, that portion size is tiny, I'd be asking for a refund never mind more chips.

Badcat666 · 07/08/2018 20:04

Chip butty down South does involve the buttered sliced white stuff but chips must be chip shop bought. The bap is more common place now :(

We had the best chippy when we were little where the bread was sliced from a big crusty white loaf... closed down now and there's a crappy generic burger and chip place now.

I mourn it's passing...

Yellowbird54321 · 07/08/2018 20:04

Thank you OP for the fish butty explanation - I have never seen one of those where I live - fancy there being a fish shaped roll and all, what a totally brilliant idea Grin

AnExcellentUsername · 07/08/2018 20:05

@badcat that reminds me of the days when rather than getting me chips and gravy from the chippy, she'd indulge me with some oven chips covered in oxo.

It's good, but it's not right.

yaria · 07/08/2018 20:06

Too small and too white Shock

ChopChipCookies · 07/08/2018 20:07

I can't bear frozen/oven chips. Lowest form of potato.

bobstersmum · 07/08/2018 20:09

At our chippy, a chip butty is basically a portion of chips with a tea cake (barm, bap, roll whatever) somewhere in there. It's not just bread with just enough chips to cover it! So no you were not being unreasonable!

Astrid2 · 07/08/2018 20:10

YABU for thinking a chip roll is a 'chippy tea'. Merely a snack.

Imchangingmyname · 07/08/2018 20:10

YABVU for making me now crave a chip butty.

DoubleNegativePanda · 07/08/2018 20:14

@FrangipaniBlue what kind of pie? That's really the important question here.

I've just realized I have absolutely no room to talk about horribly stodgy sandwiches as one of my favorite guilty treats is a lasagna sandwich. Large bread roll split, buttered and stuffed with a nice wedge of lasagna. My god it's amazing.

Lana1234 · 07/08/2018 20:19

I’d be fuming with that too. Yabu for making me now crave a chip butty though 😬

ADishBestEatenCold · 07/08/2018 20:23

No idea if it's an appropriate portion, but I do wonder why you would buy chips that are so white and pasty looking.

FissionChips · 07/08/2018 20:26

Buying a breadcake and chips wrapped separately wouldn’t work, part of the gorgeousness of a chip butty is the bread that’s soaked up all the fat and vinegar.

ArmySal · 07/08/2018 20:36

One large portion of chips between us and I would butter lots of white bread with real butter. Melty salty butter. Mmmm.

That's just made me salivate like a bloodhound.

Measly amount OP, you get loads at my chippy for £2.20.

SisterNotCisTerf · 07/08/2018 20:38

YABU in using the term "chippy tea". I fucking hate that term, and the use of "tea" for evening meal. They're both grim.

😂😂😂 are you quite alright?

Itchytights · 07/08/2018 20:41

That’s a disgraceful amount- no way near enough.

Incidentally, I just ordered a prezzo takeaway this evening with Deliveroo. Had a side order of chips for £3.75. I was horrified as it genuinely was such a meagre and minuscule amount that they had given me , I couldn’t get over it.
Have had another gin to get over the disappointment.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 07/08/2018 20:43

Had a side order of chips for £3.75.

Proper Chips or "fries"?.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/08/2018 20:48

I always thought tea was something that you poured boiling water on.

Oh do bore off, you snob.
