WIBU to ask for more chips?

We were supposed to be having salad tonight for tea but I —accidentally— ate most of the baby plum tomatoes this morning, so my penance was to pick up a chippy tea on the way home. It wasn’t busy, only one person in being detected when I got there. I ordered a fish butty for DP and a chip butty for me (no kids). I paid £6 all together (live in Yorkshire) and this is all I got!!

The chippy is local, and usually much more generous than this.

Was I being unreasonable to drive back to the chippy, via the bloody temporary traffic lights to ask where the rest of my chips were?

Lancashire here. That's a teeny portion! Here it would be about £2 something and you get a large portion of chips and a buttered barm

crazycatgal · 09/08/2018 00:13

That's a piss poor effort. The muffin is supposed to be crammed with chips with extra on the side.

Really want a chip muffin now 😂

MyDirtyLittleSecret · 09/08/2018 00:45

That's just all kinds of wrong. I'm finding it quite disturbing. I'd report the stingy chip-withholding bastards to the chip butty ombudsman, OP.

catinboots9 · 09/08/2018 00:51

Little Chef years ago (pre Heston) gave me a portion of chips that consisted of 6 chips. Yep, 6. I complained and they told me it was the policy that their chips were sold in length not weight.

Tbf fair there were a couple really long ones, but really?? 😱😱

coastalcottage · 09/08/2018 02:20

Get some McCain's crinkly cut oven chips from Tesco's, some cheap ham or fry a couple of eggs, or all three- a treat!
Fish and chip shops are terrible value and I live in Dorset by the seaside.

steff13 · 09/08/2018 03:07

So this is a sandwich, that consists of a bread roll of some kind, and the filling is just French fries (chips)?

Really!
Fuck me it’s a bun with chips in it. Quite frankly that’s more than enough chips.
Isn’t it bad enough you’re eating a bread roll with fucking chips in it?
Fuck

Shampooeeee · 09/08/2018 04:44

I’m still craving chip shop chips... I’m still abroad and my next trip home won’t involve going up north.

Does anyone know of a decent chip shop in that there London (preferably central or west)?

Mandelinka · 09/08/2018 06:27

This

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 09/08/2018 06:49

We had a great one, it's been turned into a Domino's. 😭

jocarter67 · 09/08/2018 07:58

Katya you mean you live in Yorkshire and they served you that ???
That isn’t even a toddler size in Yorkshire, where are the scraps??
You had YANBU that portion should be illegal, in fact they shouldn’t even be allowed to trade any more. I am sending lots of hugs and I truly hope you recover very soon from the shock of this monstrosity

Mummingainteasy · 09/08/2018 08:11

Can't believe that some people think that's an ok amount of chips for a chip butty Confused Confused

Lillabet · 09/08/2018 08:37

That's not a proper chip butty! YANBU
Our chippy does a buttered barm with 2 scoops of chips, that's a proper chip butty (barm round here) Grin

From Wikipedia:
A saveloy is a type of highly seasoned sausage, usually bright red, normally boiled and often available in British fish and chip shops, especially in London, Leeds, Newcastle, and the English Midlands and are occasionally also available fried in batter.

Fuxxake now I really want a saveloy :(

Shadow that’s what she asked and paid for

cricketmum84 · 09/08/2018 11:04

@Eliza9917 never seen a saveloy on the menu in Leeds?

Eliza9917 · 09/08/2018 11:08

That's a shame. if you've never had one you are missing out. They are probably arseholes and eyelids but they taste lovely so don't think about that. They need to be fried though so they crunch/pop when you bite them, not boiled.

I have never seen a battered one though and now I need one!!

ShapelyBingoWing · 09/08/2018 11:54

In the interest of information sharing, this was £1.80 and there are bloody loads of chips on it. No extra scoop but it's considerably cheaper than what a full portion is.

Ifailed · 09/08/2018 12:15

Saveloys were really popular in Birmingham when I lived there, yes they were probably made from sheeps eyes and donkey lips, but were ace after a few beers!

Ifailed · 09/08/2018 12:47

....according to Wikipedia, saveloy was traditionally made from pork brains. Yum yum!

CrispsAndDip · 09/08/2018 14:10

Really want a chip muffin now

FissionChips · 09/08/2018 14:21

Shapelyglass · 09/08/2018 14:35

You in Horsforth? I used to live there and there was a chippy that did chip butties like that.. stopped going!

DoubleNegativePanda · 09/08/2018 15:36

What are the scraps?

I really want to try one of these things but there is no where to get one where I live!

Ollivander84 · 09/08/2018 15:41

Scraps are bits of batter
