WIBU to ask for more chips?

We were supposed to be having salad tonight for tea but I —accidentally— ate most of the baby plum tomatoes this morning, so my penance was to pick up a chippy tea on the way home. It wasn’t busy, only one person in being detected when I got there. I ordered a fish butty for DP and a chip butty for me (no kids). I paid £6 all together (live in Yorkshire) and this is all I got!!

The chippy is local, and usually much more generous than this.

Was I being unreasonable to drive back to the chippy, via the bloody temporary traffic lights to ask where the rest of my chips were?

Wtf is a cob??

redfairy · 07/08/2018 18:50

Our local chippy had one particularly stingy server. I would let others get served before me than end up with her. YWNU to challenge your chippage.

MadMags · 07/08/2018 18:50

Yeah, that’s not a portion of chips!!!

I wouldn’t have gone back though, I’d have been mortified! 😂

Ifailed · 07/08/2018 18:51

Wtf is a cob?? Bread roll. There are lot's of regional names for one.

Aragog · 07/08/2018 18:51

Not standard at any of the chip shops round here - South Yorkshire. Chip butty is a large bread cake overflowing with chips, with more on the side.

Portion of chips plus a bread cake on the side would just be even more chips. But not on the bread - that would be separate.

ImAGoofyGoober · 07/08/2018 18:51

Corr if that’s a portion of chips I’m surprised they have any customers! Maybe they should put the prices up so as to allow for more chips.

Shampooeeee · 07/08/2018 18:52

Yabu for sharing a photo of proper chips.
Some of us are abroad with only shitty skinny fries and would be grateful for that measly portion.

Take me back to Yorkshire and pass the vinegar.

AnExcellentUsername · 07/08/2018 18:52

Well I was unsure what to have for dinner but looks like it might be a chip roll and gravy...

MaryShelley1818 · 07/08/2018 18:53

YANBU! That is not a Chip Butty!

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 07/08/2018 18:53

Thats an utterly dismal portion of chips id be 😭 if i got that from my chippy

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 07/08/2018 18:54

A cob can be like a bap, barm or roll etc but with a hard crusty top or it can be a soft top.

QuitMoaning · 07/08/2018 18:55

Ok, if you are being charged for a portion of chips and then 50p for roll then that is wrong.

My OH shop charges pretty much the Same for a portion of chips as a chip butty, on the premise he serves less chips to fit in the roll but then you get the roll. So it sort of evens itself out.

If this was my OH, he would be driving round with a replacement plus something else as an apology. Next time ask for a portion of chips and as they hand it to you, ask for a roll.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 07/08/2018 18:59

God, imagine the reaction I’d have for I’d i had asked for scraps too!

I did go back, and I’m not usually that fussed for challenge stuff like this, but it’s been a long & challenging day at work and I was really looking forward to a chippy tea. DP did look at me and say ‘seriously?!’ As I was putting my shoes back on 😂.

I think the difference though is that we always go to that chippy, although not that regularly, maybe every couple of months or so, and the portions are usually a good two scoops of chips & then a bit more. It’s the dramatic change in chippage that was the shock. I genuinely thought there’d been a mistake.

That’s crap. Good on you for going back!

SeaToSki · 07/08/2018 18:59

I counted 26 chips - that is mean

Yellowbird54321 · 07/08/2018 19:01

Despite being Shock that a previous poster has never had a chip butty, I am now reflecting on the fact that I have never had a chip shop "fish butty"! Is a fish butty filled with a full fish or a fishcake?

TedAndLola · 07/08/2018 19:01

It’s the dramatic change in chippage that was the shock.

Grin Love it.

At the price of chips + 50p you were definitely shortchanged. I shall adjust my expectations for chip sandwiches!

CaptainHammer · 07/08/2018 19:01

Yanbu, . The good thing about a chippy dinner is the massive portions, I’d have gone back too!

ProudThrilledHappy · 07/08/2018 19:02

That is definitely stingy. A regular chips at my local is £2.50 and comes in the form of a small mountain that ds & I can rarely surmount together, in spite of his usually hollow legs.

enjoyingscience · 07/08/2018 19:03

Fuck me, I really want a chip butty now. With batter bits.

Yogagirl123 · 07/08/2018 19:03

You are in the right OP, you tell ‘em and if they are mean in the future try another chippy! What’s a cob 😂

tryagainsardines · 07/08/2018 19:06

Op, I hear you. I have been exactly in your positon.

I thought I would buy a chip butty. I fancied a bit of bread and butter, y'know, forget the diet for a bit.
I was most upset when I opened up the packet. I did not think it was worth £2.90 when a portion of chips (about 3 times the size) was £1.50.
Lesson learnt, I can tell you.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 07/08/2018 19:07

See I would have ordered a portion of chips & a breadcake. What you got was a pathetic attempt at a chip buttie tbh.

Knittedfairies · 07/08/2018 19:07

A cob is a male swan, or a bread roll....

delphguelph · 07/08/2018 19:07

Cob?? Bread roll? Hmm

It's a barm, you loonies.

Eh, OP???
