To post on trans issues in the Feminist Chat forum?

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 11:50

I've been posting a lot on trans issues over in feminist chat. I am keenly aware that it's primarily a women's forum, for women to discuss issues pertaining to their needs. I also know that the presence of men in women's spaces can undermine useful discussions and become "all about the men"

When I say women, I include transwomen. I know many of you don't, but that's not at all what this AIBU is about.

So, am I making a useful contribution to the debate, or undermining it?

You've made some dismissive comments to and about women. Why dont you fight for the third space option?

SaucyJack · 11/07/2018 11:56

How the hell am I supposed to know whether you're making a useful contribution or not?

ICanOnlyLaugh · 11/07/2018 11:57

But you’re doing it again. Starting a discussion all about yourself Confused

Nobody in aibu can answer that question unless they go and read your posts. A fair number of posters in aibu don't like "trans" discussions and complain when they happen here so you may not get very many people checking.

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 11:57

upstartcrow I disagree about the third space option, and many other positions taken on that forum. You aren't necessarily going to get agreement out of me. If you mean by "dismissive" something other than "I disagree" I think it's fair to say AIBU.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 11/07/2018 11:58

Well, I suspect that each time you post you are showing other lurkers exactly what the problem is. So carry on I say.

Men just cannot help themselves from telling women how it should be.

GahWhatever · 11/07/2018 11:58

YANBU to join in the debate in the feminism boards (whether or not I agree with your POV). YABU to post in IABU.

ICanOnlyLaugh · 11/07/2018 11:58

Ooh you forgot the third option:

You are irrelevant.

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 11:58

This thread is only relevant to people who have read the posts. I don't expect anyone to hoof over there and read them to answer this question.

GorgeousJaws · 11/07/2018 11:59

You clearly think you have something important to say, given the fact you have posted this in the most 'high traffic' area of the site.
What validation are you looking for? I'd hazard a guess the majority of posters on AIBU don't post or read feminist chat.

Why not start a thread there?

dirtybadger · 11/07/2018 12:03

Surely you can guess from responses whether people think your contribution is valid or adds anything? You've posted this question in a space where most people won't have read what you're referring to. You should just ask in the space where 100% of people have read what you're on about.

UpstartCrow · 11/07/2018 12:03

You disagree with the option that women want. Apparently you believe we haven't thought about it hard enough and dont really understand the issues.

But then you are the one claiming that the definition of ''woman'' is not ''adult human female''. And that biological segregation is unworkable.

seventhgonickname · 11/07/2018 12:03

Why don't you ask this on the feminist board as they will have read your posts.?

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 11/07/2018 12:04

Rule number 1 of 'how can I make it all about me, the Man in the room'?

Ask a question and encourage everyone to look at me and see how I have helped the silly women to see things my way.

Crack on mate. It shows the lurkers just what the problem is.

JessicaJonesJacket · 11/07/2018 12:04

Well, no-one can tell without reading your posts. . . which seems a rather egotistic approach. You're expecting posters from your feminist chat threads to follow you to here or posters from here to search you out on feminist chat. That suggests a degree of entitlement.

You won't be undermining the debate but if your contribution here is representative then you won't be adding much either imo.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/07/2018 12:04

It's an odd high traffic section of the site to post in if you only want people from one section of the site to read your post.

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 12:06

GahWhatever Oh, dear. I'll ask for it to be removed. I thought there was a lot of crossover between forums.

maxthemartian · 11/07/2018 12:06

I've not even read your other posts but you sound like an attebtion seeker. Who cares what you think?

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/07/2018 12:06

Do you think you, as a man, coming into a predominately female site, going to a feminist section (which is a bout women's rights) and disagreeing with most people is useful? If yes, why do you think it's useful?

If even a tiny bit of that answer is I know better then do you think YABU?

I'm assuming you don't go to racebaitr and tell them how to have a discussion about Black rights if you're white. Or go to a motor cycle forum and tell them they're doing riding wrong if you don't. So why do you particularly feel women need your opinion? Hint: it's probably arrogance born of male privilege.

Dottierichardson · 11/07/2018 12:06

Well said Jessica.

ADastardlyThing · 11/07/2018 12:07

"When I say women, I include transwomen."

I think I see the problem. Someone says women, and I think of, umm, women. Not men. If you said "women" to me I'd assume that's what you meant, not women including men.

There really should be some words to differentiateto avoid confusion. if only there was a word for men who want to be women that would be good to use, and a word for women.......it's a head scratcher for sure.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 11/07/2018 12:07

Those feminists over there just keep talking back to him, so he wants non-feminists to say 'of course your manly opinion is valid'...

Because AIBU is chock full of non-feminists who are in awe of a good manly opinion AMIRITE?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/07/2018 12:08

dadjoke

We have had 'men' posting on FWR

Its not them...its definitely you

BeUpStanding · 11/07/2018 12:10

All about you isn't it? Hmm
