Friend invited us over yesterday (group of 6) and then she asked us to play a board game.

One friend lifted the lid to reveal the scan photo and then the big announcement

I’m happy for my friend but I just don’t understand why the big reveal ...

Yuck.

dimplesmccutie · 08/07/2018 21:52

is this her first... maybe she just wanted to surprise her close frienda and thought gis was a funny way to do it... has she a back story has she been trying for a long time.

faofjamp · 08/07/2018 21:52

oh god how weird!

clary · 08/07/2018 21:52

Did you play the game? If not then it's a bit odd.

KitanaKay · 08/07/2018 21:53

Yeah it’s a bit naff but it’s ultimately harmless so let her enjoy it!

AlwaysAToDoList · 08/07/2018 21:53

No we’re all mid 20s, not been trying long and no fertility issues.

Armchairanarchist · 08/07/2018 21:54

Yucky and gender reveals are even worse. No one cares.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/07/2018 21:54

God love her...

ImAGoofyGoober · 08/07/2018 21:54

It’s a bit weird but it sounds as if she is really happy and thought it would be fun.

Babyroobs · 08/07/2018 21:54

Just seems to be the big thing doesn't it. Afriend of a friend had one recently and gender was revealed by cutting into the cake and the sponge was pink inside.

Loopytiles · 08/07/2018 21:55

Self absorbed and inconsiderate: no one knows how others may feel about a pregnancy announcement, simple information is best.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 08/07/2018 21:55

Does it matter if she is a friend. Not sure why you would want to post on here just to open her up to ridicule however.

Not something I would have done, the announcement, but I would not be horrible about it on a massive forum, that often has threads lifted for DM fodder where there is a chance friend might see it.

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2018 21:56

Gender reveals are cringey and unecessary IMO. I hope you made the right noises/facial expressions at the time.

SharronNeedles · 08/07/2018 21:57

I agree with bears

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/07/2018 21:57

Arf at the “maybe she’s really happy about it” posts!

Catra · 08/07/2018 22:01

I wonder whether she'd still consider you a friend if she knew you were posting about her announcement in such a mean way, OP?

ChaffyMcChaff · 08/07/2018 22:03

You sound very mean...I'm glad you're not my friend!

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2018 22:04

How nauseating.

What’s wrong with “I’m pregnant”? I hope none of your friends have fertility issues. It’s horrible to be blindsided like that.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/07/2018 22:05

Nor do I. Does she think she's the only one who has ever been pregnant. That she has to make a daft announcement
Has she never heard of just telling people.

Slimtimeagain · 08/07/2018 22:06

Why are you posting about her on an internet forum? Especially one which often ends up in a certain newspaper.
I think it's lovely - she obviously values your friendship and thought you'd all be excited. I was thrilled when my closest friends were pregnant.

PurpleDaisies · 08/07/2018 22:06

Was the board game something relevant to babies? It would be bizarre if it were monopoly or similar.

notacooldad · 08/07/2018 22:06

You don't have to understand it.
It was something your friend wanted to do.
You knew that by posting this your friend will be mocked and possibly end up by being a news paper article.

I am glad I am not your friend.

TigerTooth · 08/07/2018 22:06

Well - she's just excited, each to their own - be kind.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/07/2018 22:10

I’m sure op is totally happy with her friend’s news. Doesn’t mean you have to be on board with this trend of treating every event in your life (no matter how trivial) as a Hollywood extravaganza with you in the starring role.
I’ve have laughed, frankly.

LilyChantilly · 08/07/2018 22:12

Bloody hell, it's not that bad, give her a break!
