To think this pregnancy reveal is cringey?

Friend invited us over yesterday (group of 6) and then she asked us to play a board game.

One friend lifted the lid to reveal the scan photo and then the big announcement

I’m happy for my friend but I just don’t understand why the big reveal ...

OP posts:
diddl · 08/07/2018 22:12

Well i wouldn't have been something that I would have done.

But do you also mean that she got you all together rather than just letting you each know the next time she saw/contacted one of you?

bialystockandbloom · 08/07/2018 22:15

A board game? Could've been worse...

That cake is disturbing!

Really want to know which board game it was now.

Pandemic?
Carcasonne?

Maybe that’s what she’s planning to name the baby.

LemonysSnicket · 08/07/2018 22:17

Aw, she was excited!

coffeekittens · 08/07/2018 22:18

I find all pregnancy announcements other than “I’m pregnant” or the standard scan photo on Facebook with the due date cringe worthy.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/07/2018 22:19

That cake is an abomination.

Cherrysherbet · 08/07/2018 22:22

I'm glad I don't have "friends" like you. You sound jealous.

Worieddd · 08/07/2018 22:22

That doesn’t sound too bad.....

But wtf is it with gender reveals these days? Who actually gives a shit?!

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 08/07/2018 22:22

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar - I am sure op IS happy with the news, and tbh I would have found it a bit weird. And may well have thought it a bit much.

However, she has opened her friend up to unkind comments from people who have no connection to the friend. And quite rightly have their own opinion on these things. But this is not their friend they are talking about, it is a random somewhere in the world they know nothing about and therefore are unlikely to hold back.

Hence OP has opened up her friend to comments such as "yuck" "weird" "Self absorbed and inconsiderate" "nauseating".

All comments people are entitled to make, but exposing a supposed friend, a good enough friend to who wants you be there for a special announcement is mean.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 08/07/2018 22:25

I've heard worse, and it wasn't a gender reveal as some pls have posted but a pregnancy reveal. I usually hate these self-absorbed things but this one seems pretty harmless and she's clearly excited. Good for her.

IdaDown · 08/07/2018 22:29

I think i’d have to pass on a slice of that cake...

KC225 · 08/07/2018 22:36

I am intrigued by the game.

Guess Who?

Risk?

TrudeauGirl · 08/07/2018 22:36

She was excited and thought it would be cute. Seems mean to bash her for it :-(

LeighaJ · 08/07/2018 22:36

@bialystockandbloom

ShockShockShock

gekiort · 08/07/2018 22:37

I wonder whether she'd still consider you a friend if she knew you were posting about her announcement in such a mean way, OP?

This.

Are you normally such a negative person OP? I mean is it the norm for you to bitch about your friends behind their backs

nicenewdusters · 08/07/2018 22:38

I can never unsee that cake. That's a disturbing thought.

Ithinkthatsenough · 08/07/2018 22:41

Bleugh... to that, gender reveal parties and balloons.
Not for me

LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/07/2018 22:45

I also think that's incredibly cringey - but I will say that there is shit like that all over Pinterest and a lot of pregnancy boards, especially US ones (I sometimes use a Reddit group for people due around the same time as me and was astonished by both how early and how cringe their social media announcements were), so I can totally see how you could begin to see this as normal, especially if you haven't known many other pregnant women.

BrokenWing · 08/07/2018 22:48

sounds like she wanted to tell you all together and was just having a little harmless fun. It wasn't a big over the top reveal.

You on the other hand sound negative and a bit nasty towards someone who is supposed to be a friend. What is the actual problem with the way she told you, it really wasnt over the top?

EarlGreyT · 08/07/2018 22:50

It is as tacky and cringe worthy as hell.

There is something somewhat sinister about that cake. I think the gender reveal cake with the pink and blue shite (obviously I don’t mean that literally) in the middle is one of the most tacky things I think I’ve ever heard of in my life.

AynRandTheObjectivist · 08/07/2018 22:50

If you really liked her and were happy for her, you'd accept this as a harmless quirk.

Passmethecrisps · 08/07/2018 22:51

Blame Pinterest. It turns sensible people into very strange beings indeed.

It was harmless however. Smile and nod and be kind.

PixieN · 08/07/2018 22:52

“I can never unsee that cake. That’s a disturbing thought”

Agreed 😂

Bollocks. It’s cringeworthy and smug

Snowysky20009 · 08/07/2018 22:53

It's cringy. But did you have to share your dislike and make fun of her, to millions of people?
