I agree with you OP. It's not 'appropriate' clothing- crop tops and miniskirts are very appropriate for a party lol! What they are saying is 'nothing provocative', which for 10 year olds is disgusting.

Well they didn't say girls, they said children so I assume they dont want the boys to wear mini skirts or crop tops either. So no children in mini skirts or crop tops. Quite sensible for a bowling trip I would have thought.

Well I’m sure if boys in the past had shown up in clothes which showed their arse cheeks when they bent over to bowl the letter would be less specific.

I can see why it’s annoying to feel that girls are the focus of clothing rules, but let’s be honest, the boys are all going to wear jeans/tracky bottoms and a t shirt.

The girls will probably be in a much wider range of clothing types, some of which are impractical and may spoil their enjoyment of the activity because they will be constantly pulling their skirts down and worrying about how they look instead of getting on with having fun.

Telling girls how to dress isn’t really a perceived insult 🤔

It's not a disco, it's bowling so probably nothing to do with being provocative. Just sensible so they don't have to worry about flashing their underwear during the activity. girls or boys no one wants their underwear on show to classmates and teachers. If it were a party or disco type thing then I'd probably be more annoyed

I would imagine that they have had issues with clothing before and boys don't tend to wear either of these things, so yes aimed at girls but I can't think of examples of inappropriate clothing for boys that they might realistically wear on this type of trip. So in short I wouldn't have a problem with the email.

Who lets their child wear a mini skirt to go bowling? My daughter would be mortified at the thought of someone seeing her knickers!

It’s a school disco and some parents may not realise that crop tops and miniskirts are not considered appropriate so they were specifically mentioned. Parents generally realise that t-shirts with rude slogans are inappropriate so this didn’t need spelling out.

If this was a disco I'd agree with you, but for ten pin bowling then I think it's fair enough. Mini skirts or crop tops wouldn't really be appropriate would they?

I don’t know, miniskirts DO seem inappropriate for bowling—but I guess this targets provocative clothing rather than activity-inappropriate clothing though. Doesn’t seem all that unreasonable to me (trying to think up provocative boy clothes, so far only coming up with saggy trousers)

@Charmatt - I don't encourage my 11 year old daughter to wear a crop top or a mini skirt. I wouldn't be seen dead in either. But she likes them and it is her choice.
