No mini skirts or crop tops, yr 6 leavers party.

So not children, but girls. Please make sure girls aren’t wearing anything which could be deemed provocative. Which is how it reads to me.

AIBU or not?

I think I would reply and ask them to expand on the point. It is weird that they have specified crop tops and minis as opposed to say, flip flops or earrings if it’s safety related. See what they say.

If they do indicate it’s about provocation then let them have it

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 19/06/2018 16:28

They say 'children'. They're not telling just girls though. Your sewing something that's not written down.

SaucyJack · 19/06/2018 16:28

I don't get the problem.

Noone's ever campaigning for small boys to go out in ball sack tight hot pants- are they?

Why can't kids be kids?

Flicketyflack · 19/06/2018 16:28

Women always told how to dress!

Eg don't wear short skirts to prevent rapes Sad

spanishwife · 19/06/2018 16:29

I get that people don't like to make a fuss, but it's these kinds of little insinuations that lead to women still getting blamed for being assaulted when going out wearing a mini skirt and/or crop top.

MoonsAndJunes · 19/06/2018 16:29

They're reminding some parents that crop tops and mini skirts aren't appropriate for a bowling trip.
They don't want children turning up dressed for a disco.

Sirzy · 19/06/2018 16:29

Well flip flops wouldn’t be an issue for bowling would they given you change shoes when you arrive Confused

Crocodilesoup · 19/06/2018 16:29

But it says appropriate, not unprovocative.
Children who haven’t been bowling may be unaware of how much leaning over there is. Half the kids will have phones - photos of your dd’s killer shot that also displays her knickers on snapchat anyone?

Damnthatdog · 19/06/2018 16:30

1, I have a boy in that class not a girl so it doesn’t affect me either way

2, I don’t think belly tops/ crop tops are anything unusual for girls in the summer

3, I’m not sure a crop top does effect anyone’s ability to bowl but I’ll give you the mini skirt May

I find your comment very contradictory @saucyjack... 'let kids be kids' by wearing clothing without being sexualised. You don't get that?

sexnotgender · 19/06/2018 16:30

It doesn’t say anything about the clothing being provocative.
It asks for appropriate clothing for bowling which mini skirts and crop tops are not.

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2018 16:31

Would you go on a work bowling trip dressed in a crop top and miniskirt?

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 16:31

A skater style skirt which is usually also a mini would be great for bowling.

Crocodilesoup · 19/06/2018 16:31

Hot pants arent mentioned, though might be a bit chilly.

BlancheM · 19/06/2018 16:31

Yanbu
There is nothing inappropriate about children wearing children's clothing, only the mind of people who think there is.

MoonsAndJunes · 19/06/2018 16:33

Personally i’d kick off.

Hmm
Edinburghsmedinburgh · 19/06/2018 16:33

That doesn’t make sense. A swimsuit is perfectly appropriate clothing for a child, but not when they are going round Tesco’s.

Tangled59 · 19/06/2018 16:34

@Frequency
Why dont they make crop tops for boys?

Pengggwn · 19/06/2018 16:34

Bottom line, the school is taking them somewhere. The school gets to decide what 'inappropriate' looks like. If you don't like if, take her bowling yourself and let her wear a mini skirt.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 19/06/2018 16:34

There are obviously quite a few parents at your school who have to be told what is and isn't appropriate garb for a Year 6 event.
Or the school wouldn't have thought to mention it...

Myotherusernameisbest · 19/06/2018 16:34

If you go to the school ranting and raving about why can't the girls wear what they want you'll just look like an idiot. Especially as you don't even have a girl.

Frequency · 19/06/2018 16:34

Half the kids will have phones - photos of your dd’s killer shot that also displays her knickers on snapchat anyone

If that's what they are worried about, I'd be even more pissed off. Why should girls police their behaviour to prevent others bad behaviour. If someone took a photo pf my daughter's arse and posted it on Snapchat it would not be my daughter I would be pissed off with.

Seriously, what is inappropriate about a prepubescent child's stomach? Actually what is inappropriate about any belly?

The miniskirts, I couldn't get too worked up because they do restrict movement and wouldn't be great for bowling but let's face it, that's not what the school mean when they say they are inappropriate. They mean any short skirt or revealing clothing because heaven forbid the boys lay eyes on female skin Shock
