Well, it’s happened... the trans activists have waded into the 8th amendment issue in Ireland

And are apparently pushing for the language in the repeal legislation to be “gender neutral”.

Quote from the article-

“Despite what some may believe, men can become pregnant too. There are tens of thousands of transgender men and non-binary people in Ireland who can conceive, and when speaking about reproductive healthcare, we must always be mindful of that.

“It’s imperative that newly written legislation uses inclusive language. By including this, trans men and non binary people will not hit legal barriers should they need to receive an abortion. By using the term pregnant people in new legislation, as well as protecting women, we are also protecting and respecting all gender identities should a crisis pregnancy occur.”

So. That’s nice. Thousands upon thousands of women have suffered, many have died, because of bullshit like the 8th amendment. And after fighting so hard for so fucking long and finally winning the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, if the TAs get their way, we get to be referred to as pregnant people

I’m a bit of a TERF at the best of times but this is beyond fucking insulting. Savita Halappanavar wasn’t a pregnant person. Michelle Harte wasn’t a pregnant person. Sheila Hodges wasn’t a pregnant person.

If the TDs capitulate and let this happen I will be really pissed off.

The problem is that they're public spaces, and it's a pretty broad idea of consent that says you have to approve of who shares a public space with you.

The person most likely to molest or assault a girl before she's a teen is a family member, followed by people in positions of trust - coaches etc. Not really a threat from transgender people.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2018 09:21

I don't think the foremost fear is molest or assault... it is stare, gawp, oggle!

All those things we usually lable voyeurism, illegal!

And even if you can't accept that... why should girls be made to feel uncomfortabel. Don't deny their feelings... all of this is happening because of feelings! Unless you want to say that the feelings of a few boys always trump the feelings of many girls!

JacquesHammer · 03/06/2018 09:37

@ReliefofChaos - I pretty much want to consent who I play rugby against in that I want it to be someone who has the same range of builds! Not to mention the actual physiological differences between male and female bodies that makes Sport a different experience for each.

JacquesHammer · 03/06/2018 09:38

why should girls be made to feel uncomfortabel

For the same reason girls have been uncomfortable for centuries. So that men don’t have to be.

LemonadePockets · 03/06/2018 09:40

This world is going fucking mad.

sleepingdragons · 03/06/2018 10:06

As only a female body can get pregnant then the term Female should be used.

No. Because:

  1. My cat is female. But she is not a woman. Females can be any species. Woman means adult human female.
  1. The TRAs will not stop at a compromise. Women budge over, they demand more. If we get to use the term female exclusively, they will demand it.
TerfsUp · 03/06/2018 10:07

What sleepingdragons said. No.

TerfsUp · 03/06/2018 10:08

It's ok, only women. @Reliefofchaos has mansplained the situation to us so we can relax now.

Caribou58 · 03/06/2018 10:47

The person most likely to molest or assault a girl before she's a teen is a family member, followed by people in positions of trust - coaches etc. Not really a threat from transgender people.

You've not actually looked at the examples people have already posted which show that transgender people ARE a threat, have you?

You've paid no attention to the statistics that show that male sex offenders are already identifying as transgender and demanding (in some cases, getting) access to women's prisons?

You think no teenage boys have ever assaulted teenage girls?

You think that teenage boys declaring themselves 'trans' should be allowed into girls' changing areas? And the girls should have to accept this without question? As someone who once was a teenage girl, I can tell you how deeply disturbing and damaging to many of them this would be.

Magpiesarehuge · 03/06/2018 13:14

This is about changing boundaries and meanings - there will be much more to come. FGM will be changed as boys and men will also be victims. School curriculum, text books, general language will have to be changed to encompass that men can have babies and women and girls csn have penisrs etc. It’s a drive to force a change in society, our norms and language etc. These steps are important steps,

sleepingdragons · 03/06/2018 13:22

You think no teenage boys have ever assaulted teenage girls?

It's not just about assault, it's also about not setting up the conditions to make consensual sex between teens easy.

If we let male-bodied and female-bodied teens sleep in the same dorms as a matter of course, we are putting the teenage girls' health and future at risk as there will be pregnancies, it's just a matter of time.

TerfsUp · 03/06/2018 13:23

As a side note, for those teaching English as a foreign language will have a great time explaining that the terms 'girls' and 'women' also means 'boys' and 'men'. And that if any students ever come to the UK they will have to accept males in women's lavatories and changing rooms and if they complain, they will be told that they need to be educated.

And if female students share a room, they might be sharing with a male who identifies as female. But it's ok because it's all about feeeeelings and not biology, provided those feelings belong to men.

Tourists will have a great time, too. There won't be any sex-segregated hostel rooms. And they will have to be careful not to mis-gender a local in case they are berated (best case scenario) or arrested (worst case scenario) for calling a person with a deep voice, an Adam's apple and a beard a man.

Ereshkigal · 03/06/2018 13:49

relief Any boy who pushes to be let into spaces where girls are getting naked should be immediately disqualified from entry. He has demonstrated a poor attitude to girls' boundaries and should therefore be excluded.

Exactly this. See Lila Perry who reserved the right not to change behind a curtain but wanted to be able to get naked in front of the girls. Whether men grasp this or not, forcing this on women and girls is a form of sexual assault.

Ereshkigal · 03/06/2018 13:51

You think that teenage boys declaring themselves 'trans' should be allowed into girls' changing areas? And the girls should have to accept this without question? As someone who once was a teenage girl, I can tell you how deeply disturbing and damaging to many of them this would be.

He's a misogynistic man who gets a kick out of arguing with women about what their boundaries should be allowed to be and what rights to consent they should have.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5798945/Trans-women-convicted-men-attack-vulnerable-inmates.html#comments This is already happening, I know its the DM but there it is.

Battleax · 03/06/2018 20:20

Its really cheering that the DM are suddenly all over this. It might not be a great paper but it’s got a huge reach.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/06/2018 20:54

It's fantastic publicity, putting it out there, and making everyone aware of what is happening. They had a similar article on Friday about women protesting at an all Male lake in London. Self I'd as Males and crashing the Male lake. The men did not look impressed and the Police were called. Funny when the boot is on the other foot. I suggest tge women do the same if they see any self I'd woman. What is good for tge goose, is good for the gander.

mathanxiety · 04/06/2018 00:51

That was because the Ladies Pond in Hampstead Heath was declared open to transwomen and those transitioning in December 2917.

"Our swimming pond is NOT gender fluid: Fury of Hampstead Heath ladies after men identifying as women are allowed into their famous bathing lake"
DM zinger of a headline. (Actually Mail on Sunday)
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5223641/Hampstead-ladies-say-swimming-pond-not-gender-fluid.html

'For decades it has been an oasis for women wishing to swim and sunbathe away from the prying eyes of men.'

'But now the famous Ladies’ Pond on London’s Hampstead Heath will no longer be a haven preserved for women after a controversial ruling allowed men transitioning to be women to bathe there.'

'Regular users of the tranquil fresh water pond – used by famous names such as actress Helena Bonham Carter, comedian Rhona Cameron and novelist Esther Freud – have complained in recent months that men who identify as women and wore female bathing clothes were using the pond...."

"...This week, a spokesman for the City of London Corporation which manages the lake, confirmed to the MoS that men transitioning to women will be allowed to use the pond and the female changing rooms."

"But last night, female bathers responded with outrage at the prospect of transitioning men being admitted to their ‘special sanctuary’ – despite there being a men’s and a mixed pond available to use on the Heath."

You have to ask yourself what is the motivation for the invasion.

Take a look at the comments under the article. Clearly some commentators don't like the idea of equality for women and are enjoying the destruction of this women's space.

Aeroflotgirl · 04/06/2018 07:37

What about women transitioning to men, are they allowed to use the Male pond then, or is it just the other way round, Ludricous.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2018 07:48

No... that was the point that came out of the day. The only change to the bye laws were to the use of the women's pond. Apparently some of the men who were initially angry with the Man Friday team were quite surprised and supportive, once they got talking and understood what was happening!

There are a couple f threads and newspaper links somewhere, it makes amusing and irritating reading!

Aeroflotgirl · 04/06/2018 08:23

That is disgusting, it should apply to both Male and Female ponds. Good on those women, I am glad the men eventually understood. Women only spaces are certainly bring invaded, the Male spaces being protected, disgusting!

Aeroflotgirl · 04/06/2018 08:48

Talk about men trampling on Female spaces, but protecting their own.

seafoodeatit · 04/06/2018 08:51

Their arrogance and aggression towards women really knows no bounds.

Caribou58 · 04/06/2018 09:01

You have to ask yourself what is the motivation for the invasion.

TRAs are running a shrewd campaign, in which they lobby various organisations to allow TIMs into women's spaces. Their modus operandi is that if they succeed with just some of them, the momentum of this will encourage others and make the acceptance of self-id in parliament more likely.

Aeroflotgirl · 04/06/2018 09:16

This is by the TRA who are biological men. I hope the Transmen start pushing into Male only spaces.
