Well, it’s happened... the trans activists have waded into the 8th amendment issue in Ireland

And are apparently pushing for the language in the repeal legislation to be “gender neutral”.

Quote from the article-

“Despite what some may believe, men can become pregnant too. There are tens of thousands of transgender men and non-binary people in Ireland who can conceive, and when speaking about reproductive healthcare, we must always be mindful of that.

“It’s imperative that newly written legislation uses inclusive language. By including this, trans men and non binary people will not hit legal barriers should they need to receive an abortion. By using the term pregnant people in new legislation, as well as protecting women, we are also protecting and respecting all gender identities should a crisis pregnancy occur.”

So. That’s nice. Thousands upon thousands of women have suffered, many have died, because of bullshit like the 8th amendment. And after fighting so hard for so fucking long and finally winning the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, if the TAs get their way, we get to be referred to as pregnant people

I’m a bit of a TERF at the best of times but this is beyond fucking insulting. Savita Halappanavar wasn’t a pregnant person. Michelle Harte wasn’t a pregnant person. Sheila Hodges wasn’t a pregnant person.

If the TDs capitulate and let this happen I will be really pissed off.

I agree. Outrageous!

OfaFrenchmind2 · 01/06/2018 00:44

This is so incredibly insulting and upsetting. They are highjacking all female issues, and make a mockery of them.

whywhywhywhywhyyy · 01/06/2018 00:45

You know what's interesting? The trans community has said nothing about changing Liverpool Womens Hospital's name because it provides MtF services. Hmm.

Fabellini · 01/06/2018 00:45

Also....”tens of thousands”.....really?

JoanFrenulum · 01/06/2018 00:48

This is an issue on my Facebook just now. Someone I otherwise respect has suggested "gestators" or "perinatal people." And they're trying to come up with a gender-neutral term for "maternal." Because we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings if they bore a kid but don't identify as the mother. Gestators. For fuck sake.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 01/06/2018 00:48

It’s just fucking sickening. Women have died for the want of an abortion in Ireland. Women suffered unwanted pregnancies and childbirth. Women coping with the aftermath of having a child they didnt want.

And yet it’s somehow all about the trans activists. How does that happen?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 01/06/2018 00:50

Gestators and perinatal people? Surely they’re taking the piss? I actually can’t tell anymore.

Unsurehere · 01/06/2018 00:51

To get pregnant, you have to be a woman. Your sex has to be female.

It doesn’t matter if this legilsation only refers to women as only women can get pregnant, therefore only women need to be protected in the phrasing of this legilisation. Hmm

A trans man is still female, biologically speaking. Hence the term “women” is perfectly fine in abortion legislation which is for, obviously, women- being the only sex which can get pregnant.

Suggesting another sex can get pregnant is both dangerous and irrational. When talking about basic biology and reproduction, it doesn’t matter what gender your mind ‘feels’ When it comes to biology you are either make or female, unless it’s one of the rare cases of true mixed genitalia and hormones.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/06/2018 00:52

Gestators? Seriously?!

I feel like this could be the biggest and least funny trolling prank ever. Except I know it isnt.

JoanFrenulum · 01/06/2018 00:54

They aren't taking the piss, they are painfully earnest and there is a trans woman involved, who is nodding along approvingly. This is what we all have to spend our energy on, apparently. Making sure that blokes are reassured that it will always, always, be all about them.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 01/06/2018 00:54

How seriously are these requests/suggestions likely to be taken by whoever will put together the legislation?

siwel123 · 01/06/2018 00:55

Men get can pregnant too you know. Everyone on mumsnet is sooo transphobic. Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 01/06/2018 00:56

Given how much bending over backwards seems to be occurring to accommodate the demands of TAs the world over, I wouldn’t be surprised if this got legs

Every time I read “men can get pregnant too” I picture Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Junior” with his shiny round belly. Grin in fact I think i’ll Find a picture of it and post it every time I see that phrase.

Bejazzled · 01/06/2018 01:00

Honestly if they weren't so pathetic this would be laughable.

In the car today I switched the radio on and heard the middle of an item about the impact this is having/could have in Northern Ireland. A woman spoke about "people who can get pregnant", and warning bells started sounding in my head.

caringcarer · 01/06/2018 01:13

Because everything always has to be about them. That is why OP. Simply that.

FissionChips · 01/06/2018 01:15

Narcissists be what they is.

viques · 01/06/2018 01:29

Gestators. They really do hate women don't they.

AlaskaSometimes · 01/06/2018 01:31

Why can't they just say women, trans men, and nonbinary people if inclusivity is needed?

I don't really have a problem with this though. It isn't eroding any rights for women. Just making sure trans men aren't left out of the legislation.

siwel123 · 01/06/2018 01:33

Trans men can't get pregnant or have I got it mixed up and the wrong way round ConfusedGrin

AlaskaSometimes · 01/06/2018 01:40

Trans men were born female siwel, you have it back to front. Trans men get periods and can get pregnant.

Loonoon · 01/06/2018 01:41

I would query 'tens of thousands of transgender men and non binary people in `Ireland who can conceive". That seems unlikely.

There are less than 6 million people in the whole of Ireland (the 6 counties and the republic included). Can there really be tens of thousands of such a small population who are transgende or non binary and able to conceive?

SomethinKindaOoh · 01/06/2018 01:58

it's a debate about one thing but it's become a trans thing lol. It was the hardest thing & 20 years later I haven't recovered from it but I was forced . He would be 20 this year and his name is Nathaniel James
