To think feminism has gone too far.

Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

Yes that’s all true.

We shouldn’t be worried about children’s literature when our real life liberties are at stake.

You’re right, it has gone too far.

Now hop off to the feminism board and educate yourself because there are many changes afoot which will affect you/ your daughters and one day your grandchildren and how is not the time to be moaning about inconsequential crap like who walks on the outside of the pavement.

Have you heard of the Gender Recognition Act, OP?

How when it is passed any man can just declare himself to be identifying as a woman in order to gain access to women’s spaces such as refuges, hostels, lavatories, prisons?

Mayura · 09/05/2018 08:34

Oh god the switching to the road side thing. One of those things I didn’t even know existed til there was an extensive MN thread about it.

Do you feel better now you’ve got that out OP? Do you actually have a point?

DobbyisFREE · 09/05/2018 08:42

I think each example looked at individually is ridiculous and seems like people are making a mountain out of a molehill. It's the constant drip drip drip of it that grates and is the issue, you can't just look at individual examples, you have to look at the bigger picture.

Coralcolouredchrome · 09/05/2018 08:44

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

That is nice. But this is not what feminism is about. Hope that helps.

Coralcolouredchrome

Hung drawn and quartered ffs. You posted in AIBU now posters are discussing your opinion. Or did you just want posters to say 'I agree hun'

FASH84 · 09/05/2018 08:49

Yes definitely gone too far, women should know their place, we're even allowed to vote now. Look at half the threads on here and tell me that women have equality and the expectations of men and women are the same. While we keep everything pink and blue, raise our girls as promised princesses who can't lift anything heavy and ought to have things paid for and couldn't possibly walk on the road side of the path we are constantly reinforcing societal opinion that we are lesser than and need looking after. We need to focus less on teaching our girls to be handed glass slippers and more on teaching them to shatter glass ceilings.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 09/05/2018 08:51

Your opinions about feminism are banal and fairly common, but your nonsense about being hung drawn and quartered is even more so.

Sunshinedaze · 09/05/2018 08:51

Yeah I agree OP. I think everything is too OT PC in general, that’s the problem. My kids are going to have Mr Men and Little Miss books, wear pink, play with Barbies, fairy’s etc.

DH also has to walk on the side of the road as well. I love it. I have no problem with men opening a door or pulling a seat for me either :)

HerSymphonyAndSong · 09/05/2018 08:52

Haha well your opinion is one that demonstrates you have little grasp of what feminism is about. I think you have got exactly the response you were after, haven’t you?

formerbabe · 09/05/2018 08:52

Totes Hun...and your hubz sounds amazing standing on the outside of the pavement to protect you..ignore the haterz...they are just jel xxxxxx

QuentinSummers · 09/05/2018 08:53

Latest update makes me give you 1/10
Try harder

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 09/05/2018 08:54

Have you got exactly the same rights, pay, respect as men?

No?

It hasn't gone far enough then.....

missbonita · 09/05/2018 08:54

Good for you, what a lovely hubby and life you have. Perhaps you need to spend a little time thinking about other people - those subject to forced marriage or FGM perhaps?

53rdWay · 09/05/2018 08:54

‘Hung, drawn and quartered’ because you got two biscuits and a ‘Bless’? Oh, sweetheart.

There really aren’t hordes of violent dungaree-wearing feminists out there who wish violence upon you. But when you live in a country where two women each week are killed by violent partners or ex-partners, feminism hasn’t really ‘gone too far’, has it?

TheNoseyProject · 09/05/2018 08:55

I could see your point about other books but the little miss books are utter crap and a bit eyebrow raising even if you think feminism is ‘pc gone mad’.

You liking something doesn’t mean feminism has gone too far.

Sparklesocks · 09/05/2018 08:57

This OP just feels like you’re trying to start an argument...who has the energy? You have the opinions you have. Great. Gold star.

mickeysminnie · 09/05/2018 08:58

Very well put FASH84

Ohlalasayohla · 09/05/2018 08:59

I don't think being a feminist means you can't appreciate somebody helping you out by holding a door - everyone should be prepared to hold the door for the next person, isn't that good manners? Maybe I'd be a bit shocked if you felt you couldn't open a door without a man around!

BrightonCalling · 09/05/2018 08:59

Is it because your arms are too weak to open doors?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 09/05/2018 09:00

When women are the all powerful overlords of civilisation and men are reduced to breeding stock, then yes, feminism will have gone too far.
We're not there yet.
