To think feminism has gone too far.

Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

No, MN is going to do a massive eye roll. Don't flatter yourself, it is neither interesting nor substantial enough to bother. Rant on about Mr Men and Little Miss.

LaurieMarlow · 09/05/2018 09:19

The problem is, feminism doesn’t seem based around equality anymore - more that women want to dominate men

What a load of shit.

CosmicCanary · 09/05/2018 09:19

Coral what has that got to do with feminisim?

jellyfrizz · 09/05/2018 09:20

All I'm saying is some of the things men do is all down to manners, not equal rights.

So why didn't you just say that? I'm sure most people would agree.

LolitaLempicka · 09/05/2018 09:21

How is that a stupid thing that is becoming an issue though?

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:21

Wow the tone in these replies is awful. Yes, let all women be equal but still tear down those we view as inferior?

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:22

OP have you read the interview where Julie Bindel joked all men should be rounded up in a camp and given things to amuse them such as fancy cars?
Is that feminism gone too far? Or a sensible idea?

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/05/2018 09:22

It’s Wednesday, I’m not sure if I have the energy for GFs on AIBU.

Some of the books we read are behind the times. As long as we appreciate that fact and otherwise raise our children to know what equality is then there isn’t a huge problem still reading some them. Prime example, Mr Large in Charge. I seriously hate the line ‘Mr Large has kindly started on the children’s breakfast’ - he ‘kindly’ fed his own damn kids?? Recently bought Mog and the Granny, I didn’t realise there’s about 5 racist pages in it, but it really wouldn’t have been seen as such in its time. We have to acknowledge these ideas are outdated though, because quite simply they are (than fuck).

missbonita · 09/05/2018 09:22

So your son men a pregnant woman whop was a bit of a dick - and that means that the battle for women's rights is over and we all need to stop making a fuss?

You're not making any sense.

Yes, YABU.

TatianaLarina · 09/05/2018 09:24

Things have definitely gone too far. Stats on pay inequality, women openly discussing sexual harassment, we should all hand back our rights, stay at home and crochet.

CrustyCob · 09/05/2018 09:24

Football???
Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that

( as related to me, by her DH, Bill)

Ticketsfrom · 09/05/2018 09:25

Well i’m buggered then, I married a woman! What an idiot. If i’d have been aware of the traffic buffering capabilities of men i’m sure my life would have turned out completely differently. Sigh.

CosmicCanary · 09/05/2018 09:25

Oh here we go the posters who will now demand that women are mean using the wrong tone and should not be vocal at all when feminisim is reduced to a Mr Men book Hmm

ClosDesMouches · 09/05/2018 09:26

I see a couple of posters have said "yawn" and "bless" in response to the OP.
MNHQ has recently deleted other posts that said those heinous, offensive words. Confused

Just a heads up in case others want to avoid deletion.

BeyondParody · 09/05/2018 09:26

"I've dared to have an opinion"

Very feminist of you. You'll have to hang, draw and quarter yourself now.

Queenoftheblitz · 09/05/2018 09:26

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

Ooh lady I think you've got a little masochism going on there.

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:27

Tickets You need to find a male relative so that you can walk along the pavement.

HesterShaw · 09/05/2018 09:28

Do you think you're the first person ever to start a thread entitled "Am I being unreasonable to think feminism has gone too far?"

And you are of course.

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:28

I am only on MN at the moment, because I can't get out of my house, as there is no man here to open the doors for me.

The responses to this OP on this thread are vile, condescending, patronising and if this is what "feminism" looks like, it's damn ugly.
