Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

OP posts:
MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 09/05/2018 10:01

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

You aired your opinion in a public forum and specifically asked if you were being unreasonable and now you're cross that others have responses with opinions of their own? Get a grip, OP. You haven't been 'hung drawn and quartered' you've been disagreed with.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 10:02

I don't think you really need me to explain the best way to construct a polite reponse.

SeaWitchly · 09/05/2018 10:03

Is it not more sensible to ignore rather than make yourself look bad?

Now ladies, mind your manners please. Hands in laps and no answering back. We don't want to be like those nasty, outspoken, uncouth dungaree-wearing radfems do we?

Shoxfordian · 09/05/2018 10:04

Just like this

To think feminism has gone too far.
crunchymint · 09/05/2018 10:07

Yes Sea, politeness at all times. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
Any ideas what I should cook my DP for his tea?

ghostyslovesheets · 09/05/2018 10:07

and this

To think feminism has gone too far.
ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 10:08

Why does politeness has to be linked without being downtrodden?

ghostyslovesheets · 09/05/2018 10:09

anyone want to talk about embroidery and kittens?

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 10:11

Hopefully you're amsuing yourselves, nevermind at who's expense hey?

paxillin · 09/05/2018 10:13

Well, your contributions so far are all about the tone of the contributions of others, @ILikeMyChickenFried. Not that helpful to the OP, either. Just a different kind of eye roll.

CrustyCob · 09/05/2018 10:14

Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favourite things... and football.

ILikeMyChickenFried well yes. If it was a brand new poster and I therefore strogly supected it was a troll, I probably would not have replied indeed.

catinapoolofsunshine · 09/05/2018 10:14

I assume Coral mis-phrased his or her post and meant to say "in the wrong direction" rather than "too far", which is somewhat understandable if her or his main focus is Mr Men books and being protected from inadvertently falling off the pavement.

The only people IRL I have met with the view that feminism has "gone to far" and things are tipped in women's favour are teenage boys who were outperformed by girls at school and haven't thought the bigger picture through and are therefore still in the "it's not fair" phase...

catinapoolofsunshine · 09/05/2018 10:15

too*

Ventress · 09/05/2018 10:16

Feminism absolutely hasn't gone far enough when there are stories like this Second Indian Rape Victim Set Alight in the news almost everyday.

Feminism wasn't the reason the woman was rude to your son OP; she was just a rude person. But they come in both sexes.

Coralcolouredchrome · 09/05/2018 10:16

Hang on, hang on, some of you have obviously done some goading in the past, but I can honestly say, all I wanted were some views from MNs without the vitriol. And before any of you say, I shouldn't have asked MNs their views if I didn't want honest opinions, there is honest, and then there is savagery I haven't come across since I was at school, just goes to show, bullies can be encountered at any stage in your life.

OP posts:
FizzyGreenWater · 09/05/2018 10:17

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

No no, it's more the being a total bellend thing.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 10:17

I am because the OP is in the minority and a large group.of posters ganging up on one solitary poster always looks a lot like bullying to me and I don't like it.
People shouldn't be so rude to someone just because it's over the internet. I can't imagine ever speaking to someone in real.life the way some posters respond on here.
If you've a valid point to make then it's much better made politely.

FizzyGreenWater · 09/05/2018 10:18

You've had loads of views. You've even had screenshots of information, quotes you won't read, long posts from people explaining exactly why you are a silly mindless goady bellend... oops! Sorry. Bullying again!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/05/2018 10:19

Toast = goady confused

Oh thats funny

I was just sat here thinking ' oh thats a good saying just because its toast you dont have to bite'

Ruined it now Sad

OohMavis · 09/05/2018 10:20

But you haven't even been called a cunt Confused

MillicentF · 09/05/2018 10:20

I’m happy to offer opinions, OP. Just not sure what on. I don’t like children’s books that focus too much on boys do this, girls do that. I’d much rather boys and girls were taught that they can do anything. Don’t you agree?

Sunshinedaze · 09/05/2018 10:21

ALL WOMEN DESERVE A MAN-TRAFFIC-BUFFER.

Well, I certainly deserve a man who is respectful towards me and behaves like a gentleman. I don’t mind chivalry at all. I guess it’s just me and my high standards in what I settle for in a partner. Doesn’t mean I can’t walk on the foot path unaided or swing open a door.

I guess bad boys that treat women like shit are the popular choice. I’d call a guy who wouldn’t stand up for a pregnant woman on a train, an absolute pig!

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 10:21

Ruined it now

Sorry Rufus!
