Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

OP posts:
ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:31

*I see a couple of posters have said "yawn" and "bless" in response to the OP.
MNHQ has recently deleted other posts that said those heinous, offensive words.

Just a heads up in case others want to avoid deletion.*

Hmm can you not see how rude such responses Are?

mzcracker · 09/05/2018 09:32

Why do some women want to be footballers and boxers? It's so masculine, almost as if they want to be men.

What's your problem with women playing sports?

porkiepiesky · 09/05/2018 09:32

she looked at him, and laughed, saying, she may be a woman and pregnant, but she could still stand on her own two feet. Everybody laughed, and he was so embarrassed.

Today, over on Things That Never Happened.

Bekabeech · 09/05/2018 09:32

No Feminism hasn't gone too far
Women are still regularly cat called - and if you don't believe me talk to a group of 13-18 year olds.
TV shows still have the stereo types of girls can't do Maths (even if it is just excessive praise when a girls is good at maths).
Or just look at threads such as "Am I damaging my 2 month old son by putting him in a pink baby grow?"

And the drip drip drip is extremely damaging.

Just ask anyone who is black. Being followed in one store, or stopped once by police, or assumed once to be the Nanny is okay - but enough times it is like a small stone in your shoe.

Everyone laughing at the OPs son was rude, but turning down a seat when you feel fine is also okay. Just like you don't have to accept any invitation etc.

FermatsTheorem · 09/05/2018 09:33

"Ugly responses"? This is AIBU. The gentle piss-taking on this thread is pretty mild compared to the average parking thread or MIL thread.

Juells · 09/05/2018 09:33

@Coralcolouredchrome

Oh God, I've dared to have an opinion, that is so monstrous, MNs are going to hang, draw and quarter me for daring to air it in public.

@ILikeMyChickenFried

Wow the tone in these replies is awful. Yes, let all women be equal but still tear down those we view as inferior?

That's what happens when someone is being goady. The OP knew exactly what she was doing with that post, and had to do a bit more prodding before provoking the required responses 😴

IfNot · 09/05/2018 09:34

I'm only a feminist because I'm too ugly to catch a man. Sad

porkiepiesky · 09/05/2018 09:35

I don't see why OP shouldn't get piss-taking responses to what is quite obviously a thread intended to goad.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:35

Just because something is toast it doesn't mean you have to bite. Is it not more sensible to ignore rather than make yourself look bad?

CrustyCob · 09/05/2018 09:35

Anyone for a game of five a side?Smile
It will have to be indoors though, as some of us can't get out, due to lack of traffic buffers.
Please bring soft balls.

Flicks hair...

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:36

Toast = goady Confused

G5000 · 09/05/2018 09:36

My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road

You have previousy posted that he also never lifts a finger at home. Nah, I prefer my feminist DH.

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:36

Yes women footballers should wear make up and dresses if they want to play football. Maybe high heels too.

porkiepiesky · 09/05/2018 09:37

Is it not more sensible to ignore rather than make yourself look bad?

No, I don't see why people should get away with wilful ignorance. HTH.

mzcracker · 09/05/2018 09:37

@G5000 LOL

Weebo · 09/05/2018 09:37

These threads always give me a toe-curling image of a woman nudging her yawning husband and smugly saying "See? Aren't you glad I'm not like them?"

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:37

CrustyCob I would join you, but I can't get outside as I have no man to open doors for me.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:37

You have previousy posted that he also never lifts a finger at home. Nah, I prefer my feminist DH.

Of course it is possible for a man to do both.... what's it with looking up other posters posting history? I'm trying to find a nicer way to say it but isn't it a bit pathetic to do that?

Hoppinggreen · 09/05/2018 09:38

Dd has just joined the football team at school - should I ask if she would like to transition into a boy?

Xenia · 09/05/2018 09:38

Most of us hugely benefit from feminism and our daughters (and sons) will too. Loads of women enjoy lots of sports. In fact it is women who sit around and never lift heavy things who tend to suffer health problems.

porkiepiesky · 09/05/2018 09:38

Advance search exists for a reason.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/05/2018 09:38

HTH is so condescending and precisely the appauling behaviour I was talking about. How unpleasant.

AlpacaLypse · 09/05/2018 09:39

Children's books, toys, clothing, baby equipment - even kid's toothbrushes! - have become noticeably more likely to be an either/or gender option with nothing in the middle. I'm going to continue to rant about that. Meanwhile if anyone opens a door for me I shall continue to smile and thank them whether they're male or female. And I shall continue to open/keep open doors for anyone who's coming through, whether they're male or female.

deadringer · 09/05/2018 09:40

Yes op you are right. I mean just look at the feminism board, it is awash with threads about the Mr. Men books, they speak of nothing else.

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:42

OP a man yesterday in a shop called me dear. I shouted at him, picked up a display of cans and threw at him, and keyed his car in response. Did I go too far?
