Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

Not much of an opinion though, was it? What do you actually mean?

Do you believe men should have all the power and we little women should hope we find one nice enough to treat us like a princess?

Or do you mean men and women should be equal (perhaps you imagine they already are treated equally?) and all that door opening and walking on the road side is just romantic/gentlemanly?

I can get on board with the latter. If you believe the former then I feel sorry for your daughters.

HerSymphony FFS I know exactly what feminism and equal rights is all about, I have participated in every way I can. I still think and agree that the stupidest of things, are being made an issue that has no bearing on the whole Women's rights. All I'm saying is some of the things men do is all down to manners, not equal rights.

This must be a reverse. Surely? If so, nice one!

mzcracker · 09/05/2018 09:02

When women are the all powerful overlords of civilisation and men are reduced to breeding stock, then yes, feminism will have gone too far.

Sounds like bliss 😬

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/05/2018 09:03

Bad wimmin.

Back to the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, the lot of you!

Let 'the menz' talk...

LolitaLempicka · 09/05/2018 09:05

What stupid things are being made an issue?

Xenia · 09/05/2018 09:09

No. feminimism has a long way yet to go. We will all keep up the good work.

Singlenotsingle · 09/05/2018 09:11

I agree with coralcolouredchrome that in some respects it's gone too far. Women seem to want to be men. Why does a female actor want to be called an actor, not an actress? Why do some women want to be footballers and boxers? It's so masculine, almost as if they want to be men. Vive la difference, that's what I say. But yes, the Gender Recognition Act is a serious concern. And there are other issues in this country which need our attention eg FGM.

CosmicCanary · 09/05/2018 09:12

100s of murdered baby girls recently found on a dump....no feminisim has not gone too far OP if shit like tgat is happening.

LaurieMarlow · 09/05/2018 09:13

I'm not sure I get your point OP. However you're definitely right that mr men/little miss books are shit.

FranticallyPeaceful · 09/05/2018 09:14

The problem is, feminism doesn’t seem based around equality anymore - more that women want to dominate men. Men aren’t allowed to ‘be’ anymore because women claim that they make them feel uncomfortable etc etc. That’s the issue, and until genuine equality is addressed (on both sides) then it will be an ongoing battle.

We need to raise our girls with equality in mind, not dominance (as people will rebel against this), and raise our boys with equality in mind and not make them feel like monsters for being born with a penis, or they will act as such.

Feminism in the TRUE meaning hasn’t been met yet, and likely due to how people go about it, but I fear we are going in the other direction on other matters. It’s causing a massive rift and it’s very regressive - I fear women are being brain washed into this by ill-meaning people, especially online, to make feminists look like barking mad idiots to lessen the integrity of it all...

for example:

People 1: women should be paid equally, we should be treat the same, be able to dress as we please.

People 2: yes!

People 1: women are scared of men because they’re all potential predators and we need safe spaces and to be treated differently!

People 2: errrr, hang on a minute...

People 1: MEN LOOKING AT US MAKES US FEEL LIKE WE ARE PIECES OF MEAT AND UNSAFE.

People 2: now associates feminism with crazies

MrPan · 09/05/2018 09:15

There's more than a wiff of masochism here. Fears she will be hung, drawn and quartered.......... then "complains" when she is....

Have you seen the film "Secretary"?

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:15

The men walking on the outside of the pavement thing comes from a time when roads in cities were awash with horse shit, sewer waste and rats. And it was very easy to get splashed with this mixture when horse and carriages went along the road. So it was to protect women being splashed with horse shit and waste.
If the streets were still full of this, I would be more than happy for DP to walk by the pavement so I didn't get splashed with this stuff. But since this is not the case, it is in reality an outmoded custom - like wearing a bowler hat.

FranticallyPeaceful · 09/05/2018 09:15

But then nobody talks about the actual shit going on in different countries, where women are in actual danger and being treated horrifically...

No. Not important, because somebody saw a young boy in a woman’s dressing room and it made her feel unsafe. This is what’s important.

Hmm

To think feminism has gone too far.
YABU
Not far enough, it's early days yet (historically speaking)....Grin

Poor to very poor so far.

formerbabe · 09/05/2018 09:16

Why do some women want to be footballers and boxers? It's so masculine, almost as if they want to be men.

Jesus Christ.

LolitaLempicka · 09/05/2018 09:17

Why does a female actor want to be called an actor? What like doctress? Or paintress? Yes I totally see your point.

Hoppinggreen · 09/05/2018 09:17

Women seem to want to be men?
I think you will find it’s the other way round

crunchymint · 09/05/2018 09:17

Reminds me of the women who argued against women getting the vote because women were not capable of voting and would not know what to do with their vote.

PintOfMineralWater · 09/05/2018 09:18

Agreed, feminism has gone too far. Women outnumber men in politics and in boardrooms. Men are murdered every day by women. Women are paid more than men! It's a disgrace.

#wontsomeonethinkofthemenz

Hoppinggreen · 09/05/2018 09:18

But only the “good” bits

Coralcolouredchrome · 09/05/2018 09:18

Lolita For instance, my son, some years back, stood up to give his seat to a pregnant woman, on the train, she looked at him, and laughed, saying, she may be a woman and pregnant, but she could still stand on her own two feet. Everybody laughed, and he was so embarrassed.

Do you really think women shouldn't play football? Really? In which case should men not be dancers, or make up artists?

WorraLiberty · 09/05/2018 09:19

Oh god the switching to the road side thing. One of those things I didn’t even know existed til there was an extensive MN thread about it.

Same here!

It's the sort of thing you do if you're walking with a child/toddler and not holding their hand, but I'd never heard of adults doing this.
