To think feminism has gone too far.

Mr Men books, Little Miss books. Why are they saying these children's books are giving the wrong impression to children. All the books we read as youngsters, are being dissected as being sexist. Snow white looking after the dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, needs a kiss from a Prince to wake her up. I love a man opening a door for me, to let me go first. My DH changes places with me so he's walking on the side of the pavement that is nearest the road. I know some of you are going to tear me to shreds, but I just had to say what I've been thinking for a long time.

OP posts:

I've read that board from time to time and quite frankly the posters are terrifying. It's not a welcoming place. I'm too scared to post there, if you're not all about "smashing the patriarchy" you don't fit in.

Yes, we're all essentially Millie Tant and if you shave any of your body hair we'll throw you out.

Birdsgottafly · 09/05/2018 12:24

Just had a read of the News before coming onto MN.

The story that stood out, among the usual reports of DV, sexual assaults (all with Female Victims) was the suspension of eleven Students from the University of Warwick, for Rape 'Jokes'. The conversations included how Rape should be used as a punishment and it would be fine if their Female Peers were raped in the street "because they deserved it".

Yes, Feminism had definitely gone far enough.

deadringer · 09/05/2018 12:48

What a well thought out, intelligent and most of all original op Coral. Wow, if only we had more posters like you who can really get to the heart of the matter.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 09/05/2018 13:04

The OP has got exactly what they wanted out of MN and this thread - and that story of the pregnant woman / “son” didn’t happen

@RainbowFairiesHaveNoPlot

It's possibly one that takes a bit of lurking and reading around rather than just jumping in cold - but that's kind of good to do with most forums really.

Even monkeys have the intelligence to lurk on the outskirts of a group they want to join so they can understand the group dynamics before barging in and telling everyone else how things should be.

Juells · 09/05/2018 13:28

Oh how rude! I was too polite to mention that.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 09/05/2018 13:34

:D

Brittanyspears · 09/05/2018 13:34

Feminism isn't about chivalry or manners OP. Women are allowed to study and get educated these days FYI.

leggere · 09/05/2018 16:38

Juells, disagree with you about having to watch and wait before joining in. That's another thing I dislike about MN feminism board. We're all equal on mn, there should be no hierachy. After all, we're humans aren't we, not monkeys?

Lweji · 09/05/2018 16:42

After all, we're humans aren't we, not monkeys?
Well... apes we are.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2018 18:33

Sorry I didn’t realise I was so thick. Off you pop then.

Nagsnovalballs · 09/05/2018 21:18

Oh balls I play rugby.

It’s clearly because I have penis envy and want to be a man. More importantly, I like to stop men and boys from playing rugby so that I can have the sport all for girls.

Said no women’s rugby player ever.

I play rugby because I love my team, I get a massive adrenaline kick and it turns out that, having tried hockey, lacrosse, tennis and netball, I actually am talented at rugby rather than average at the other sports - and it is an excellent way of destressing.

My issue is when my team had to play against a trans woman and ended up with 5 serious injuries: broken collarbones, blown knees, fractured wrist. I play WOMEN’S rugby and I’m 165cm and 68kg with 20/30% body fat. I did not sign up to play against someone who is 190cm, 95kg and 10/15% body fat (I’m guessing here but that TW took three of our players to get them down) the TW pace, muscle condition and centre of gravity was totally unlike our team (we play two leagues below prem, or the league below championship if you prefer; basically, good amateurs of a decent standard but not elite athletes).

Nagsnovalballs · 09/05/2018 21:19

Oh yeah, and we have 4 mums on our team, and one of them was one of the ones broken by that TW, making her life unbearably hard for 8 weeks. Fortunately, the team rallied round to help her out.

Mousefunky · 09/05/2018 21:21

100% gone too far. Women need to know their place and get back in the kitchen. Fuck working, just stay home and pop some kids out. Make sure your husbands tea is ready when he gets in.

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/05/2018 21:27

Apart from the odd one of two, who have the intelligence to understand the point I was making, the rest of you are just boring me now.

Translation : i've bad my arse comprehensively handed to me so shall prétend to be sooooooo supérieur but actually sounding like a sixteen year old in a huff.

leggere · 09/05/2018 21:32

Nags, did your team have any choice of whether to play against a transwoman?

ChinaRose · 09/05/2018 21:33

I stayed home and "popped some kids out". I believe in equal rights for both men and women. It was my choice to stop working.

FermatsTheorem · 09/05/2018 22:33

@Nagsnovalballs Flowers for you and your team-mates. (I used to play football, and I bloody loved it, even though I wasn't much good at it. Never could get into netball or hockey.)

I'm horrified by that account. It's what I've been telling people for ages could potentially happen - and it turns out it is happening. Not only was this guy heavier, taller and had less body fat than you, I bet no-one does testosterone blood tests at your level either (and I read recently that testosterone suppressants only work on a minority of trans-identifying males anyway - the majority still have much, much higher T than the average woman). It gives me the absolute rage when I think about it. (DS plays rugby, and has female team-mates: it's still mixed at his age. It breaks my heart to think that this is their future in a sport they love. And just when women's rugby is really beginning to take off - I saw little bits of the 6 nations and some of the players were awesome.)

WeWere0nABreak · 09/05/2018 22:36

The OP reminds me of trump and his cofveve - only superior people understood that too, apparently!

Juells · 09/05/2018 22:43

@leggere

Juells, disagree with you about having to watch and wait before joining in. That's another thing I dislike about MN feminism board. We're all equal on mn, there should be no hierachy. After all, we're humans aren't we, not monkeys?

It's a board for discussion. If you want to discuss things in a civilised way you don't barge in anywhere and start being goady. If you do, you'll get your arse handed to you. That's how it works in any social setting, and the various boards on mumsnet are social settings. Unless you just want a ruck, of course.

WrongOnTheInternet · 09/05/2018 22:53

A quick search suggests this is the op's first post (admittedly mumsnet search facilities ain't never been too good).

Which kind of implies to me that we're being trolled, which kind of proves how badly feminism is needed.
